My site was nice, not the easiest lake to fish very shallow near the shoreline.

It is extremely hard to find any sites that accommodate trailers of 30 feet or less. If you can get your trailer in, you cannot get a vehicle in with it.

We had a great experience despite arriving right after the area having widespread campfire bans that are totally understandable. The camp hosts were awesome and attentive and kept the common areas clean and well stocked with toilet paper. We will for sure be back.

Loved big lake campground!! The water was so nice, perfect weather! Boat ramp was busy but of course thats expected on a nice day! Looked like a majority of the sites had access to the water

Great place to camp. The seasonal Park Rangers were amazing. So helpful and accommodating. Highly recommended.

Swarms of mosquitoes. We saw dense columns of mosquitoes 30 foot tall, and we got attacked so bad that I thought we'd die! With this kind of infestation deet repellant didn't work. Obviously there is no mosquito control in place at this site, and no warnings were posted. We had a hellish night.

Great location and interesting camp sites right on the lake. Plenty of activities at camp and nearby. Paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming was spectacular. Camp host was great. The only negative was the mosquitoes.

MOSQUITOS! Crazy mosquitos in mid-June, impossible to be outside. Likely better in early fall. We will not return in early summer.

Very quiet this time of the year - we enjoyed the weather and the solitude. It can be really busy during the summer. The RV space was fine for our 18 foot trailer and we were able to access the picnic table and fire pit without climbing down the bank at the spot we stayed at. If you need flat ground, avoid some of the spaces that require steps to get down to the picnic tables - some of these sites are pretty steep on the west end of the Lake.

Make reservations otherwise it is a huge hassle to get a spot

Really nice campground with stunning view. We had site #9 which was huge, had decent privacy, and had a path to the lake that led to a little beach. Bugs werent too bad for our weekend, but it was a little smoky. Cons: if youre looking for peace and quiet, this might not be it. Lots of ATV trails around, so you could usually hear motors running. Our neighbors were quite loud, and the kids were running around and screaming before 7am. Site #9 is nice to have the trail to the beach, but people from other sites also wanted to use our path. We didnt mind too much, but there were a few people entering our site to get to the lake. Overall, still a 5 star experience.

I would give zero stars if possible. I booked spot 24. We have a 23 ft travel trailer and this spot was rated for a 30 ft trailer. We weren't about to back into this spot. There was no way it was big enough for a 23 ft trailer. The site was also very narrow and had about a 20 ft drop off. The roadways were narrow and when we tried to go around the loop to get out of the campground, there was a golf cart in the middle belonging to the camp host. The camp host was argumentative and not very accommodating. We ended up driving 3 more hours trying to find any place to camp

Prepare for mosquitos before August

We had an amazing time! The campground was full over the weekend, but everyone was respectful.Wish people didn't run generators all night, but otherwise perfect place.

Great campground with good amenities and large campsites!

We enjoyed Big Lake campground very much. Our camper looked out on the lake and Mount Washington. Despite a number of ATVs and motorcycles in the campground, none were racing around or revving their engines. The space was large and there was a path from our campsite that went down to the lake. We loved seeing so much bear grass in bloom. Our only issue was an off-leash dog that ran toward at menacingly barked at our leashed cat while taking a walk. The owner wouldn't come and grab her animal. I was happy my cat didn't scratch me after I picked her up to get away from the dog.

This campground was beautiful and spacious! We can’t wait to come back here! There were lots of mosquitos, so next time we will bring more bug spray!
@PatriciaA12078 · Camped on Jul 1, 2023 at Campsite #46
Visited over July 4th weekend and the mosquitos were horrible....repellent didn't even work; we left the next morning. Plus, the campsite's pathway to the lake was blocked by a fallen tree. Staff did cut up the limbs, but didn't remove.
@KelseySE0397B2 · Camped on Jun 28, 2023 at Campsite #9
Big Lake is an awesome lake, but it attracts many RV's, motorized boats, and off road vehicles because of surrounding amenities. You'll hear generators all day, as well as music and loud people. Our site had very minimal shade and was very hot, but it was big and lots of space to play. Bathrooms are pit toilets but smell free and clean.
@StaceyB7525024 · Camped on Jun 23, 2023 at Campsite #5
Great views, quite and beautiful lake. Still close to Sisters if you need anything. We camped at the end of June and got ate alive by mosquitos so bring lots of repellent! Vault toilets were clean and always stocked with t-paper. Sites are very narrow but overall would come back here again. My whole family enjoyed it
@SamridA68427F3 · Camped on Jun 16, 2023 at Campsite #29
There will be lots of mosquitos. Come prepared with enough repellants. Apart from that, its a good spot with all amenities for a family camping trip.

Pros: We went Labor Day week. It’s about 3 miles back in from the Highway 20, Hoodoo turn off. We loved the large sites. The lake was clear and clean, shallow for the most part, which is perfect for kids! Many of the sites are within about 20-30 feet to your own little beach on the lake. Beautiful views of Mt, Washington. One of the prettiest places I’ve camped. Has running water within about 50-75 feet of each site. Pit toilets. The park hosts sell wood and ice. No other amenities that I was aware of. We went down to Black Butte general store for any necessities we needed. Our site 19 was the best for size, accessibility, and views, but didn’t have much shade. Other sites did. Cons: It’s a bit difficult to identify site boundaries and where you can park. If you don’t mind dirty, sandy ground, then this place is for you. The moment I stepped out of my van, my shoes were filthy. Pit toilets were kind of clean enough, but very smelly. If the wind comes up, you’ll be dealing with breathing dust and dirt, and in your eyes. The yellow jackets were horrible, even when there were two traps up at the side of our site. Summary: We’d go again, because it was beautiful and perfect for swimming or paddle boarding/kayaking, quiet, and no highway noise….but we’d more prepared for bees, and wind and shade protection.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
