There is a boat ramp so you want to be away from boaters. Boaters equal noise and drunkenness in my experience. The sites are asphalt pads. The road is wide and back in was easy. Our site was level, had a fire ring, BBQ grill, patio and nice new picnic table, and view of the lake. There are lots of trees and even though the lake is about 8ft low, it's still nice looking. There is a good amount of space between sites. Our loop doesn't have ramadas but most of the other sites do. I was all set to give this park a great rating, until I saw the bathrooms. The restroom buildings look nice from the outside, from a distance. They are concrete block and the outsides are finished with flagstone. But as you get closer you see that all the exposed wood is rotted and has peeling paint. Inside they are worse. Worn and peeling paint, sheets of plywood used to cover up holes cut into the concrete block walls to repair plumbing, overflowing and leaking toilets. Sewage, trash and TP on the floor. Several showers have broken handles and are unusable, and though they have doors all the curtains are gone. Very poorly maintained. My wife refused to use them. I took a shower, water got just warm, no where near hot, but had good enough pressure. Some of the shelves are broken and there is exposed wall surface in the showers. There is a path that leads to the bathrooms, but it is unmarked, and the asphalt surface is worn and full of potholes. Park was not easy to navigate, no signs indicating where the exits were. No signs telling you where trails and paths lead. Our site had trash in it on our arrival. There is also visible erosion of sites, walkways, patios and BBQ bases, and no one replenishes the dirt. Go a couple of blocks and there is blight, bars, tattoo parlors, and extremists. Park is very unsafe, no police presence or enforcement rangers.

We have stayed at Hickory Creek a couple times over the past several years. This is a great location for visiting the DFW area. The park has always been very clean and looks well kept. We will stay here again if we are passing through north Texas.

always a great park to stay at!

Beautiful campground that gets very busy in weekends. We were in site 76, pull-thru with water and 50 amp service and spacious. We had plenty of room to fit our RV and enclosed trailer (total length 70). Walking to our picnic table required stable feet as there was a water drainage dip between the RV and the picnic table. We needed to be extra careful at nightfall. The trails around the park are very nice! There is a lot of airport noise, but we enjoyed watching the planes come in for their final approach to DFW. We had a wonderful stay!

We love staying at Hickory Creek. Its a beautiful campground that is thoughtfully laid out. Weve stayed many times. This campsite was the best of the best. Quiet at the end of a cul de sac. Lakefront. Great fishing hole nearby. Lots of space.

The convenience of this park can't be beat for locals like me. Stay here often and on this particular trip - I pulled up to my camper around 4pm on day 4 of a 5-day trip to the park host in the drive telling me I needed to leave. It seems the day added to our original trip online was a day later and someone else had reservations that night. This was all missed as I went in and out of the park earlier, so the park host and I were both surprised. Unfortunately for us, the folks with the reservations that night wouldn't take another site - so, our 33 ft. rig, 3 dogs, 2 cars and bikes had to go.First off, totally my fault with the reservations. Secondly, the park host was professional, courteous and offered us another spot for the rest of our stay. Heck, it was already well past check out/in times and the interaction was nothing but nice. And lastly, you can bet we'll be back. Good park, good people.

We always love staying at Hickory Creek, but this trip was not what we expected. We arrived right after the 3 p.m. checkin time and headed for space 99. I unhooked our toad from our diesel pusher so I could back in to the space. When I pulled up, I was very surprised to see someone was in our spot! Never had that happen here before, so we drove back to the gatehouse and explained the situation. The attendant called the person in our spot, they said they would move in 20 minutes. 40 minutes later, my wife knocked on their door to see what was going on. The lady there said she got her days mixed up. We wound up waiting over 90 minutes for her to hook up her travel trailer. By the time we got in and set up, it was getting dark, and we had hoped to unload some things from our coach so we could put it up for sale. So, that first day was ruined, and we had to really beat feet to get everything done, as I am handicapped, so a bit slow walking and doing the stairs. Obviously not all the campgrounds fault, but someone coming by after the checkout time to assure folks leave when theyre supposed to would help! But usually, this place is great, and our go-to for local camping.

Hickory Creek is my go to. Im fairly new to rv camping and stay local for now. There are a lot of camping options within a 50 mile radius of me, but I prefer Hickory Creek. Most sites are large and many are water front. You cant beat the price either. A couple drawbacks are no playgrounds for the kids or a designated swim/beach area. Upgraded fire pits, picnic tables & grills need to be completed. Last year they closed down for 6 months so do these upgrades, but only maybe half or less have been completed. I love the 2:00 check out time and staff is great!

No sewer hookups is the only thing I did not like, everything else is wonderful.

Love the wildlife, the lake, and so much more. Good facilities for showers. Close to town and some really great restaurants close by. My wife and I stayed there so we could be close by the Cancer Center at UT Southwest Health. It did get cold three nights and we had to wait for the pipes to unfreeze before we could be back to normal. But the spots were level and the area was beautiful.

We always enjoy our time when we camp at Hickory Creek. It would be nice if the playground would come back. Also, a designated swimming beach would be nice.

We stay at Hickory Creek in our RV every time we come down to DFW to visit family. The facilities and sites are well maintained and the staff is always extremely friendly. This is without a doubt the best campground in the area!

A wilderness campground oasis in the middle of town! We saw a lot of deer and birds there. Other than the planes flying into and out of DFW airport, it was amazingly quiet. Water and electric are on site, a dump station is available. The sites were mostly level although some we saw (did not use them) would take extended blocks for leveling. We were there in the winter so we did not use the lake. The gate was manned and we felt quite secure there.When we return to the area again, we will not hesitate to camp here again.

I think this site, though dont have much large flat area, is good enough for a tent-camp. It has the perfect position for the sun set. The main problem for the whole campground is noise, since it is near DFW, there are planes flying by after 10pm.

Hickory Creek is a great place to stay. We were visiting our son who lives in Denton and had a rented camper trailer. Although we were only 10 minutes from our son, it felt like we were out in the country. Great views of Lewisville lake. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The bathroom facilities were good - large shower/dressing areas. Each camper spot had a picnic table, charcoal grill and fire pit. We had a couple of nice fires there with wood we purchased at the nearby Albertsons. We will definitely stay there again! We could hear a little bit of traffic noise, but not bad. The park is in an airplane flight path, so there were some planes overhead now and again.

Excellent campground, site large and paved. Needs more then on place for trash. Some of the sewer intakes are too high.

1st experience at COEs. Beautiful. Quiet. Learned to check showers first. Family couldn't use, too cold. Host next door & messy site w/dog messes & didn't clean up. We saw most walking w/dogs off leash. We had our 4 all on leashesat all times. Location & sites were great otherwise.

The spaces were fairly level and well spaced. Most have views of the lake. We were there during the cold snap in early January so the showers buildings were a bit chilly to use. Had to let the water run for a number of minutes to get hot water. The park is close to grocery shopping and restaurants. The staff and volunteers were very friendly. Would definitely stay again.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
