Very disappointed. Site and area were pleasant. The underage drinking and partying by 5 or 6 idiots seemed unsafe campers. No cell service to get support/police. Ruined experience for other campers.

Quiet and clean campground. Loved listening to the loons!

Best meal on the Gunflint trail at the Poplar Haus

Clean campground with plenty of sights. Most sites are separated with trees fairly well. Couple lake side campsites that were very neat but were first come first serve. I read that fishing was suppose to be really good on flour lake. I didn't have that experience, but portage into Moon Lake for plentiful fishing.

Excellent campground on the Gunflint Trail! I was there is September so it was very peaceful. I didn't see a bad campsite - they all have a nice amount of tree coverage between spots. Very close walk to lake to hike, sit or put a khaki/canoe in.Be aware, no cell service (peaceful), no wood - the resort is close by for supplies & The Trail Center is about 15minutes up the Gunflint Trail. There was water,garbage & put toilets. You can shower at the resort but they charge $10 ! Great place to get away from the "rat race" definitely will return next year!!

This was our 2nd time staying at Flour Lake. We had been there in 2020. Overall, it was a great experience. We had to find a campsite for the Labor Day weekend, nothing was available on the MN Northshore for a period of 3-4 nights except in the Superior National Forest. We first tried Bearskin Lake Campground since it was closer to Grand Marais - (1) sites were not available, (2) we didn't like it as much. We found 4-5 First-Come-First-Serve (FF) campsites at Flour, 3 of them were large (RV-allowed), which we preferred. We picked #27 - it was closer to drinking water, close to a bathroom, and just a short hike to the lake (maybe 100 feet or so). We had stayed at 35 before and liked it, this site was better. 34 was available, but tight. #6 and $10 were also available and large, but were further away from water and bathrooms. The lake was clean, it was a bit cold, but you didn't feel it after getting in the water, outside temps. were 78-85, depending on days. Swam up to one of the islands - was cool for older kids. No electricity, quiet times were from 10 PM to 8 AM. Showers, wood, ice, all available at the Golden Eagle Lodge (~3 miles away). Golden Eagle also managed the campsite. They were nice enough to change my 1-night reservation (which was all that was available other than FFs) to our new site. Also, they refunded (in cash) our final night, since the kids wanted to go home earlier to do homework and get ready for school.We also traveled to the Trails End Campground (~25 miles north) to see it too since we had considered it. Family was not into it due to the long drive, but it was nice too. Didn't know that just up the main road on Gun Flint, about 5-6 miles north from the Flour Lake road (Clearwater Rd.), there were stores, canoe rentals, some restaurants, etc. a little town - this made Flour Lake even more appealing.

Wonderful experience at Flour Lake. Highly recommend driving or riding down to the Poplar Haus Restaurant as well.

Very quiet well maintained campground . Only 5 other people there during the week.

We camped at site 13 at Flour Lake Campground. The size was big enough to pitch a 6 person tent, however, the ground was not grass. It was just dirt and hard to pound in our stakes. There is a picnic table and fire ring.

Beautiful campground... Golden Eagle lodge very close by has a great store and firewood, and super friendly hosts. Sites are wooded and spaced apart fairly well, but better suited to tents or small campers. I have a 43' camper, and was extremely difficult to get it leveled. All sites appear to be sloped from back to front. Fishing on Flour lake was ok, but found several nearby lakes with better fishing. Great place to get away and loved that we had no cell service or wifi for an entire week !

Site 002 had such a severe slope that it was basically unusable. I have a 32’ motorhome, and it was impossible to level. My friend had the adjoining site and tried to switch places with me, and he was unable to level his 24’ travel trailer. Thankfully a non-reservable, flatter site in the campground was open, so I was able to stay in that site for the week. Had to pay for the new site along with already paying for the previous site, so camping costs were doubled. Site 002 should not be rented due to severity of slope. Even a tent camper would find it uncomfortable due to the slope. Since there was a group of us camping, we just used the site to park a car and a boat.

Quiet and peaceful. Our party stayed in 19, on the lake. Nice spot if you don't have to carry in much. Toilet stunk pretty bad, even for a campground toilet, but don't they all

I love how much space and shade you get, as well as all the trails by the campground. The lake is beautiful, too. I was excited to be free of a cell signal, but some people may worry.
@ScottV1581928 · Camped on Oct 5, 2022 at Campsite #25
The only thing that was sub par was the road in. I realize this is a dirt road, but the last leg of the road in was terrible. Not just wash board, but some pretty deep pot holes and so many that most places you couldn't drive around them.

Very nice well maintained campground( except the potholed road going in) One of our favorites

1st time camping since I was a child and it was such a great experience! Flour lake is such a great spot. Clear enough sky to see stars/galaxy, while still being close to a restaurant/stores for supplies and ideally located halfway (or so) up gunflint trail!
@ToddK2697433 · Camped on Sep 13, 2022 at Campsite #20
I was impressed with the lay out of the camp ground and how spacious most of the sites were. It would have been better without all the rain! But you can't control for that.
@MarkB1441206 · Camped on Sep 3, 2022 at Campsite #5
Camp site was clean and nice - no issue here. However, there was a noisy family (kids and more - playing and yelling loud) near by that ruined the experience. Went on for several hours. Would have been nice if someone would have asked them the quiet down.

Stayed at a new site this time. I won’t tell you which because it was so awesome. The vault bathrooms were the best I’ve seen in my three trips here — please make a habit of spraying out the old single toilet at least weekly. It makes a huge difference for everyone.

This is generally a pretty good national forest campground. It is well-maintained. Good for families, RVs, campers. Many people seem to come back here year after year. Tent pads at the sites are mostly gravel and dirt, fairly hard. Ample clean water available. Restrooms cleaned daily. There are several sites with easy access to the lake, for canoeing, and fishing. These sites, and a few others, that face to the south and west, get good breezes, air circulation around the campsites. Other sites can access the spots via paths. There is a well-maintained boat launch. Good firewood can be purchased at the nearby friendly Golden Eagle Lodge , who maintain the campground. They also have some provisions, some fishing lures bait, canoe rentals and souvenir clothing items.Hot showers are available in a clean bathroom, for $6.. Some scrap pine tree trimmings from thinning are available around the edges of the campground roads, and if they are browned, and dry enough, make decent kindling. There are a few good restaurants, and a store, within easy short driving distance.

Great campground - well managed, clean - beautiful lake. Nice that campground manager Golden Eagle Lodge is just down the road too.

The campground was not busy as its late in the season. Our goal was to see a moose, we did not succeed in that attempt. We did see the most wonderful colors of yellow and green with splashes of orange (not many maple in the area) as it was near peak color for the area. The lake views were spectacular. We hiked a number of paths off the Gunflint Trail and drove many miles on the dirt roads. We did see fox, beaver, ducks, geese, loons and many smaller birds. The campground is nice we had site 22 which was long and level. Great walks down by the water. Enjoy Tim

Vault toilets, no electric anywhere around, a strange drinking water supply system, dark campground, animals making noises all through the night. I took my girlfriend out for a late evening walk to some open space down by the lake hoping to catch the Northern Lights. She held on to my arm wiith a death grip. No show with the lights but got rewarded with the Milkyway. After camping at Goosebury Falls which seemed tame compared to the area of Flour Lake and the Gunflint trail.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
