All was very good. Campground was quiet and clean. Only negative was a couple of dogs in the campground barking very early in the morning. I would return.

I usually go to this campground once or twice a year. I like that there are only a few spots and its rarely full so it is always pretty quiet. The campground could use a little maintenance work as well as a few of the other national forest campgrounds in the area. I pull a 25 ft trailer and most spots are very tight to get into. Often times I need to trim limbs or small trees to get in or out. I usually try to get site 3 or 4 at Iron Lake . Both of these sites have nice views but are tight to get into. The shared driveway to get in needs to be widened out and is very tight to back a trailer in off the main lane through the campground . There is also a drainage ditch that interferes with backing in to either of these sites. Most of the site could use some side trimming or small trees removed. The bugs were really bad during this particular camping trip so glad we brought plenty of bug spray.

This campground is a gem. Quiet, clean, secluded - perfect get-away and ideally located to provide easy access to both hiking and paddling.

Enjoyed Iron Lake campground; a clean, simple, no unnecessary frills, Campground. The quiet was ruined by one camper who ran a generator all night, every night, and most of the day.

Campground was clean, quiet and very nice but wow, the potholes in the road!

Very secluded. Trees have grown significantly from the image. If you like privacy this is a good site.

This is the perfect place if you want solitude and quiet. Nothing fancy, just the awesome setting and view. Quite rustic. Pit toilets were ok, but out of toilet paper for the first two days. Water was available but only at a small spicket out by the road from which the flow was quite slow. No hookups, of course, but a nice firepit and picnic table. I was lot 5, and it was quite large. It backed up against the lake. There was a narrow path that took you down to the shore. There are only 6 or 7 sites in this campground. I saw only one other campsite being used during my 5 day stay. The bugs were quite bad at night. I used a lot of insect repellant. During the day was not too bad for bugs. You are an hour from Grand Marais, and there are no gas stations or stores (unless the resorts you pass have supplies). You just need to come fully supplied and full of gasoline. I enjoyed the experience, but rustic was what I wanted. I marked down to 4 stores because of toilet paper issue and the water supply issues.

This is an excellent campground for getting in touch with nature. There are seven well spaced campsites. We usually stay in September and on weekdays we are the only campers in the campground. It is not unusual to see beavers, moose, bears, wolves, and Lynx in the area. Sometimes right in the campground. The lake itself is unpopulated to the west and offers great canoeing and fishing. There is no camp host which can be both good and bad (Bring toilet paper).

Biting flies were swarming and ruined the whole trip

We had a very peaceful stay at the campground. The only issue was some of the heavy rains this summer had washed out part of the drive down into site 7 which made accessing it a little tricky in a passenger car.

Fantastic campsites, most with little trails to the waterfront. Very quiet with only the slightest road noise in the distance when one of the few cars goes by. We've stayed here twice and loved it each time. After the addition of a cell tower in Sept 2021, there is now cell coverage at this site. We have mixed emotions on this, since we liked unplugging from the world for a few days. But it is good too be able to contact someone if needed! I would highly recommend this campground to anyone looking to get away from the city and enjoy some peace and quiet. Worth noting, pack in some water with you for drinking, washing dishes, putting it fires etc. as the on-site water is very slow flowing (comes from a solar powered pumping shed near the front). Vault toilets have been pretty clean and not smelly on both our trips. No running water for hand washing, so bring some sanitizer!

Best camping site on the Gunflint. Well tended sites and pit toilet. Water available at central location but no threading for hose; must use container.

Resupply of outhouse supplies would be appreciated. Site was not well cleaned by a prior occupant. Daytime use of a gas generator two sites down during the daytime hours was an unwelcome disturbance. Great view of the lake. Watched a bull moose on the opposite shore for several minutes.

The management could have been better for the three days we were there. Maybe it's just a result of Covid, but there was no toilet paper at the vaults and when staff came to change out "reserved" placards, they took ours away a day early. This caused several vehicles to drive into our site because it appeared available. Not the end of the world, but these are pretty basic things you'd expect them to have a handle on. We did really appreciate that it was open this summer though!

Very nice campsite. Tent spot is sheltered. Views of the lake. Some great loon activity in front of our site.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
