Beautiful river to kayak. It needs a kayak launch on upstream side like the downstream side of the dam. I couldn't exit my kayak while floating. Also the bathroom is way more smelly than other vault toilets. Perhaps the vent is clogged. Will definitely return as the kayaking (that I could access) is beautiful.

No water even though the site says there is water available. Had to boil nasty algae water to wash dishes. Barf! This site is RIGHT next to the freeway. I could not sleep at all from all the cars and trucks driving by constantly! What a nightmare. Couldnt even hear my music or fellow campers talking. Had to yell over the traffic. We had site 12 right next to the vault toilets which stank so bad. The picnic table was right up against some trees so you couldnt even sit on one side. Someone kept smoking in the bathroom even though there are kids going in and out of there. There is also no host on site. I will never come back here again.

We found this campground to be very nice, other than the proximity to the highway. At night, the sound dies down enough, but during the day it's just not a relaxing place to be. Proximity to the river for paddling is the only reason I would want to stay here. I think 13 is the best site all around.

This is not a campground. At best, it's a highway rest stop with a few big trees. It is sooooo loud. I did a walk around the sites, and noticed the few campsites that had campers were filled with alcohol-drinking young adults - many more than should have been at a single site. This alone would not have bothered me, but the highway traffic - it's right there. There is not buffer - despite the campground map that made it look like a buffer. I got back in my car and headed back to Sutton Campground in the hopes they still had space. I didn't care that I had already paid for two nights at Tyee. I would strongly recommend avoided Tyee and trying Alder Dune, Sutton or even Honeyman SP. All are much nicer (and quieter!) better taken care of and seem more secure/safe.

We absolutely love Tyee campground. I love that I can put into the water straight from my campsite and I can go upstream and go to the lake. Or I can go downstream and kayak to the ocean! The traffic noise is a little loud. I just wish the trucks wouldn't use their jake brake all the way around that corner!! After while you don't even pay attention to it. And at night the highways actually very quiet.Was a little different this year without Glenn being the volunteer host, but there were no issues or problems while we were there. Just missed seeing him and knowing that he was there.There was no water at all at camp. I believe something to do with the piping. Not very convenient and if we were doing a longer stay it wouldn't have worked. We did have two different campsite people come over and ask about the water and if we had any or why the water wasn't turned on. Also, it seemed that there was a complete fire ban at the campground. I'm pretty sure the state park down the road allowed fires so I'm not sure why the fire band was at this campground. I get it. I'm from Central Oregon and even over here if you were staying in a campground you could have a fire last weekend.We love to go into town and eat dinner down on the bayfront. Nosh and ICM are our two favorite restaurants. Plus having a root beer from a&w is always good. We went to the military museum and it is well worth it! They have several things that you can do along the lines of scavenger hunt as you're going through. That's a lot of fun. But the displays and information they have in there is excellent.Kayaking down the river was absolutely wonderful! Otters, egrets, blue heron, raccoons, kingfisher, a deer crossing the river right in front of me! It just doesn't get any better than that!

There was feces in the camp (space 1) and multiple piles of toilet paper. The camp is about 100 away from 101. The adjacent camp played loud music until midnight. The river was nice with aramp close by and open spaces, so that could be nice if you know what youre getting into.
@SteveH6337222 · Camped on Aug 15, 2023 at Campsite #14
No water, but we knew that going in.Right next to US101 so much traffic noise at all hours.Noisy campers, with no host on duty so was a pretty restless night.

No camp host and when I arrived, someone else was in my space. We parked by the boat ramp, kayaked for the day and went home. Didn't use the camp site.

Cute camp site with easy water access. The camping spaces are tiny and without much privacy. It was pretty empty the weekend we were there, so this affected us less. There was no camp host on site and no running water (we knew about the water prior to arriving). Overall will be returning but will book two sites as, from my perspective, the sites are undersized.

Very nice, clean campground. Excellent camp host (Glen), and some very friendly neighbors. Right on the river, a beautiful easy paddle down to the lake. The only downsides are road noise and a rooster somewhere near by :)
@EDWARDS3079365 · Camped on Sep 7, 2022 at Campsite #14
easy place to kayak from and lots of black berries
@ShastaD4847752 · Camped on Aug 20, 2022 at Campsite #1
We booked space 1 and I think that was the only reason we enjoyed this campground. The other spaces are wide open and close together whereas space 1 was all on its own surrounded by trees and private. There's a little staircase to the spot which make it look pretty cool but keep that in mind if you have anyone with mobility concerns. Only downfall to this space is there is no access to the river, we didn't care though because we didn't want to use the river anyways. Bathrooms are single person stall-type buildings with no lighting, no sink, no mirror. The highway is also very close so if you're hoping for peaceful sounds of nature you won't get much of it. Host was very nice!

The toilets were awful. Lovely location though.

There are two Tyee campgrounds. One is on the Umpqua 11 miles from Sutherlin. The other Tyee campground is on the coast. Rec.gov gave us directions to the Tyee campground on the Umpqua which is where we needed to be. Unfortunately, the reservation was at the coast which was 50 miles away. Needless to say, it made for a long night trying to get other last minute accommodations. Perhaps changing the name to Umpqua Tyee and Coast Tyee would eliminate this problem

Campsites are right next of each other, no privacy, and several sites share a common area which is great for large, loud group parties late into the night. Quiet time means nothing. Conveiniently close to town for beer runs. Suffice to say, we left early.
@ThomasM8282631 · Camped on Jul 16, 2022 at Campsite #2
I absolutely would not recommend staying here. It doesn't offer any privacy and you're right next to a busy road. Worst of all, I booked online and my spot was somehow given to a person who booked over the phone. I wasn't even given a full refund.
@LauraD1350391 · Camped on Jul 15, 2022 at Campsite #15
There was no camp host so no reservation information was on any site. We saw many people just pull up to empty sites and set up camp with no reservation. Luckily only 1 group had to pack up and leave when the people who reserved it showed up. Also, I think it's important to note that most of the sites share a large "meadow" so if you're looking for a little privacy you would need site 12, or 15. Great place to launch you canoe or kayak. We enjoyed our stay.

Lots of shade, lots of privacy from the other campers. Definitely, want to book again for the same site and the noise wasn't an issue.
@DavidB5075483 · Camped on Jun 24, 2022 at Campsite #11
Sites are very open, so not a lot of privacy, and the road is nearby so there is some noise. Overall, a nice little campground though.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
