The camp host came over and tried opening my daughter's tent at 8 am and was very rude while asking for proof that there was a reservation made. She showed him the picture of the reservation reciept and he turned around and walked away. I have been camping at carter Lake for 35 years and never has anyone treated us this way. I do not appreciate it at all and will be rethinking our camping trips to carter lake in the future

Great stay

The lake is a very pleasant spot for young kids to splash. We enjoyed our stay but were worried about our space after we arrived. We reserved site 6 without knowledge that site 6 and 7 are essentially connected. (Literally you can touch the other sites picnic table while standing at your fore pit.) It was fortunate that the family that booked site 7 for one night was not present for much time. More information about sites like like these would be helpful.

We love the idea of having the lake right at our camp site

#15 was a nice, private spot with plenty of shade. close to bathrooms so we kept hearing the toilets flush but that's fine given it was so convenient. Plenty of other running water taps. Bathrooms were very clean and well kept (bring your own hand soap). The lake was lovely. Small, but large enough for several groups of people to enjoy at once. We appreciated the picnic table for stargazing at the lake. Fire pits are nice. The 1 mile trek to the ocean is very treacherous. The trail definitely needs some maintenance, some plans laid down over large patches of mud. If you want to get to the ocean, be prepared to walk through 2 sand dunes and mud. Otherwise the ocean spot was completely isolated which was really surreal and definitely cool.

We love Carter Lake! The lake is much higher than in years past so the beach is much smaller.

Site 13 is really cool, being on the lake. But the noise of cars on the road is overwhelming, especially at night. Lake is small but nice. Decent bathroom with running water and electric lighting. Keep your food in the car at night, there are bears and other things.

The path out to the beach is frightful. glad to hear the plover is making a comeback. If there hwas a place that mentioned Carter Lake beach was essentially off limits of just about every use, I didn't see it.

We rented a few spaces here with our friends. Overall, the sites are clean and flat enough, but the bathrooms weren't very clean and the only urinal in the men's bathroom was broken. The dumpster was also over capacity. The sign said "campers must check in with host" but we went to do that and the host didn't care to. The dune access led to a mostly weedy dunes areas. None of the reservation spots had markers to indicate what was and wasn't reserved. It's a fine campground just to sleep, but not really the kind to make a destination.

Beware a good amount of the campsites have stairs from the car parking to the site. Our campsite had about 10 steps that took us down by the lake. We had very great privacy thanks to all the bushes. Campsites are a little tight, but seem to offer a lot of privacy. No camp host when we got there. Only one very clean bathroom with a few water spots.

Excellent Location, less crowded atmosphere than your typical campground. Bathrooms were unbelievably gross for having a host onsite & plumbing. The host was never around & always off duty. At one point we got excited because we saw a forest service truck parked out front with supplies and we thought they were coming to hose everything down and maybe get some hand soap in the bathrooms. NOPE. Not even sure what they were there for. The urinals in the mens bathroom literally had green algae/ mold growing like a plant, all-toilets were brown inside in both bathrooms, sinks were covered in dirt/mud, dead bugs & spider webs, etc I dont mind roughing it in the great outdoors, truly. I have been in better portapottys than this bathroom was in. I guess I was just disappointed because we usually return here every year and I have never seen the place so gross.

The camp host was rarely there to answer any question. When he or she was there, he was of no help at all.

Very cool campground; great host-Larry, super helpful. We had site 2; nice and flat with good privacy . Great little lake to SUP or kayak on; I fished and caught about 25 little bass. There are two connected hikes with a trailhead right in camp. Beautiful Ocean beach as well. Bottom part of campground is mostly sunny with some shade near sites 6&7; after that mostly shady from 9 on. Bathroom is clean- seamed all throughout the day- no issues; water was good. No Verizon signal even though it showed one-bar; some people were using their phones assuming other carriers. Overall- we definitely would come back here. Great campground! If its only a base and what we did during part of our stay- so close to other lakes and hikes in the area- made it a great choice for us.

Several lighthouses in the area to visit, a pioneer museum in Florence, an impressive myrtle wood factory in Reedsport, a relatively warm lake for swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Flush toilets and multiple water spigots.

We make an annual trek to Carter Lake campground with a group of family and friends. This involves dry camping but with the benefit of a common area bathroom that has running water for toilets and a sink. Our campsite #6 is sufficient for us and our 17 foot trailer. You need to make friends or have friends in #7 because their table is very close by. Other sites have their own challenges in terms of size and access. There was no evidence of the sites being "cleaned" after the prior occupant leaves. There was burned wood and torn up boxes in our campfire ring. The Lake is nearby, warm and small children have a large shallow area in which to play. Lots of birds and small animals dart around. The trail to the coast is well marked with some challenges in walking up and down the few dunes that lie between.

Campground and bathrooms were clean. Larry, the volunteer host was awesome. Site 7 was very very small, barely fit my super small dome tent. Absolutely no privacy between site 7 and 8.

We paid for it but stayed elsewhere, as it has no showers

Really nice campsite. My daughter enjoyed paddle boarding around the lake. There is a nice little beach to lay out on.
@Marrianne4B619 · Camped on Jun 30, 2023 at Campsite #14
Very little cell coverage from TMobile and Verizon. TMobile could get some texts sometimes. Sites are well maintained, but a lot of them are VERY short, check your length! There was one trailer and truck literally in the road because the didn't fit. Some very pretty lakeside sites for tent campers.

I like the campground.

I have been camping here for over 30 years the campground is usually nice and peaceful this time a guy with a gas powered boat came in and one guy had a generator I wish these two things were not allowed at this camp.

Greatest spot on the central oregon coast.

Site wasn’t available until after check in time & there was no available host. The host once available did not help & was not helpful.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
