We stayed in one of the east sites on the AT, beautiful and quiet on Friday night, more neighbors on Saturday in early November. Loved the easy access to trails and sunset/sunrise views!

A beautiful campground. Site was very nice with an apple tree. The park ranger was also very helpful and engaging.

Close to the bathroom but not so close to be annoying. Clean, flat, and even ground.

The place is nice my suggestion is the sites on loop A (left side( and B (right side) are really close backing into each other really cut down any privacy Othere than that it seemed nice run really well maintenance on top of things I'd return for sureThank you

We enjoy camping weekdays as the park is a little less crowded. We have stayed at Loft Mountain Campgrounds but are looking into options for staying further north so see more of that end of the park. Generally we seem to visit the park twice a year, staying 4-6 nights each time. Sunsets at the overlooks are a must see.Gary, our fur child, thoroughly enjoyed his trout and carrots for canine lunch at Big Meadow Lodge. All of our dogs have gone there through the years. Weather permitting, this outdoor seating is great for lunches.Blackberry ice cream is a must have...until the entire mountain is out of it. Missed it at lunch on our blackberry cobbler. Loft Mountain Wayside milkshakes are great, but they were out of both blackberry. Had only strawberry.My husband missed seeing any of your bears but we saw so many deer and squirrels.

Our campsite and the campgrounds were clean and well-maintained. The campground bathrooms were sorta clean. But...The pay showers down at the campstore had filthy floors, and there are no hooks to hang clean clothing off the floor. $5 for 10 minutes of hot water would be ok if the floors were clean. The change machine and the payslots worked fine.Before we left, we were picking up apples when a campground host / volunteer came and yelled at us, took a photo of our license plate, and said she was going to cite us for "destroying federal property". Ok, mea culpa. The stigma of being an apple thief will weigh heavily on me until my dying day. But here's what I want to know....The yoyos in the campsite next to us were burning their garbage and plastic recyclables in the firepit. We were choking from the smoke. Other yoyos were charging all their devices in the campground bathrooms. Where were those johnny-on-the-spot campground hosts / volunteers then?

Well maintained campsite with great amenities and location! Only caveat is the sites are a bit close together. Note: If I were to do this trip again I would recommend arriving around 12 and stopping at the wayside for lunch, then stocking up on firewood (more than one) at the camp store and finally settling in to the campsite well in advance of sunset. I arrived too late to really take advantage of the amphitheater and get a good glimpse of the mountain view!

Stayed only 1 night on a Thursday. Registration was efficient and the attendant was helpful. Campsites and restrooms were clean. Generators in our camp area was not allowed; was happy about that. Except for an occasional dog barking, the campground was quiet. Saw several deer grazing through the campsites.

Great camping experience, as always. I am very disturbed to find out the NPS is considering privatizing the Shenandoah National Park management. I'm absolutely opposed to this. Corporate greed will guide every management decision. We cant alow this to happen.
@DonaldM3739134 · Camped on Oct 16, 2024 at Campsite #D128
This campsite has 3 apple trees on it, so lots of deer visits. The firepit has a grate, unfortunately it is still about 20 above the fire at its lowest setting-too high to use for cooking on. Plenty of room for our 17 long trailer with two tents and three vehicles. Solar is limited due to trees. Nice and level pull through site near bathroom and water spigot-heat and hot water in the bathroom!

We did not have a reservation, the gal at the gate gave us two options. We looked at those options and did not like them. So we drove until we found Wi-Fi connection and we booked the campsite when it was our turn to talk to the gal at the gate, she shut the window on us!! Grant it was 6 oclock but, Who shut a window on someone who is right there!!! So we just moved forward and pulled into our campsite. It was a very cold snowy 26 night. My husband and I were playing Yahtzee inside our small camper. We heard a knock on the door. It was the host. She was very rude and let us know we needed to register, we let her know what happened that we had the door slammed in our face literally, she said fine. I dont need to see your registration, but I want your camper moved as two wheels are on the grass!!! Tell me that no one has ever parked on the grass at that campsite or any other site!! I believe that the tors put their tents on the grass. It was very, very rude of that compost to knock on our door and make us move our camper and cold sleepy weather because we had two wheels that were touching the grass Would never ever recommend off mountain to anyone after that experience.

Beautiful campground with spacious sites.
@KimS7922535 · Camped on Oct 11, 2024 at Campsite #D110
The campground is crowded and has close campsites. Noise from campers past 10pm is not addressed. We had campers next to us that partied loudly the first night until 1 am. Example of this is that you could hear their conversation in our tent and could tell that they were playing 20 questions. The second night they were slightly quieter but still talked into the wee morning hours. So much for a 10pm quite time. Also, there is a lack of bathroom facilities for the number of campers. The facilities lack places to hang clothing items and a place to put your bag of toiletries while using the sink. The hiking trails are awesome!

Loft Mountain is excellent. Ive stayed here many times. Easily accessible, clean, quiet, and great views from the Amphitheater especially during sunset

Very clean campsite, a lot of animals. Very dog friendly, and highly recommend having a footprint for your tent.

Bear boxes on most sites. New picnic tables. Site pictures outdated

We stayed at Loft Mountain this past fall and it was one of our best camping trips this year. The fall foliage, cooler weather and spectacular views made the trip that much better. Most sites look to be on grass, so there isn't a gravel pad to "limt" where you can setup you tent. The only downside was if there was rain in the forecast, it did make for a slightly muddy site.We would highly recommend any of the hikes in the area, however if you have younger children then the best experience we found was the Young Naturalist program at Big Meadows. It is a bit of a drive, since you have to drive down to Big Meadows, but the experience and fun is definitely worth it. You can also look to pick up a booklet for the Junior Ranger program, which you can work on some of the activities in the book and your kids can be sworn in as Junior Rangers.We would highly recommend Loft Mountain as a great place to stay and experience for your next camping trip!

Nice campground. Friendly and helpful staff. Bathrooms were clean and open 24/7. Showers close early so had to go to Big Meadows one time instead. Keep in mind site 12 and the ones next to it have a steep and kinda slippery path to walk down. Would stay again but probably at a different spot.

We have camped at Loft Mountain for several years. This was the first time we had to make reservations and the process was not user friendly. We left early because of the rain. Several sites were flooded and there was no electricity at the check in or the camp store the entire time we were there. We tried to get a one nights refund, but recreacrion.gov said we didt have any reservations on file. But, obviously, we did since you sent this survey for our opinion of our stay at Loft Moj tain and thanking me for reserving through your site.

Enjoyed my time there and rangers were welcoming. Restrooms need a little love. Lots of tent campers during storm. Was surprised no one came around to check on us. But it was an unusual situation.

No issues with site or check-in. We came looking forward to having access to a shower but refused to pay $5 for 10 minutes in a dirty shower. And you have to pay in quarters with a non-working change machine.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
