Gorgeous park, clean bathrooms and showers. Great park for families. Showers are $5 for 10 minutes, bring cash to turn into quarters. Only con- the parks quiet hours are not well enforced, lots of noise until 2am.

Wrong information given to me by the person working at the check in place. I was there on a Thursday and asked when the wayside closed. She said 8:00. It actually closed at 5:30!! I also dont understand why the (low pressure) showers cost more money for paying campers.

The campground was so very nice and well-kept...the paved walking trail was a really nice bonus...but what I am reviewing this for is the staff. My husband injured his knee hiking, and we had a walk to tent site booked. The staff showed compassion and readily swapped our campsite for one we could pull up to. This meant a great deal to us and we really appreciate the staff for being so accommodating and compassionate.

We enjoyed two enjoyable days camping and hiking at and around Big Meadows. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. We loved the deer passing through the campground during the day and evening and were hoping to catch site of a bear like we did on our last trip while hiking to one of the nearby trails to look at waterfalls but that was not to be this time. In the evening we drove from our campsite and just parked at the Big Meadows turnoff and watched the deer come and go. I counted over 20 at one time!FYI: If you can stay up late or get up early, the stars were fantastic in the early morning with crystal clear visibility right to the horizon.As requested, I did not bring in my own firewood and instead purchased from the camp store. The wood was a little wet but were able to get a nice fire going anyway after a little persistence. Thanks all for a great trip!Mat and Patty Woods

I was fortunate to be at BM CG on a Tuesday for the Ranger led Dark Sky Star Party. It was great! Dress appropriately, it was cold at 830pm Sept 2,2024. The campground has spacious sites, mostly level, bushes and trees everywhere loaded with wildlife. the Rest Rooms were clean and the potable water was readily available., I appreciated the paved walkways throughout the CG. What I didnt appreciate was at 8am one morning a couple decided to play pickle ball at their campsite. The noise was very intrusive and interfered with the Wild nature of this park. Big Meadows offers a lot of things to do and see, with plenty of Hiking opportunities.

Booked walk-in site hoping for a bit more privacy. Site was on street and the walk was from car down street to site. Very noisy surrounded by several other very close sites many of which didnt observe quiet hours. We did notice some walkin sites in another section that appeared to be more private. So just dont assume a walk-in will be private. The park itself is amazing.

It had been a long day and I was tired--but the lady at the gate (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) was very helpful and patient with me, and made sure I was taken care of!

Very large campground. Anything needed is within a walk or drive away from camp entrance at the visitor center. Very nice Rangers at the campground!

I love camping here, and this time was no exception. There was one catastrophic morning where I ran out of propane, and the camp store did not open on time for some reason, but an accommodating neighbor camper loaned me some, and I was able to have coffee! The ice freezer at the same camp store stopped working as well, but then there was ice available at the lodge and the wayside. All the people are super nice, campers and rangers, and I have already made another reservation to come back! The 1st of many more visits for sure!

Excellent, well-managed campground, with lots of great hiking trails and ranger programs. We liked the Rapidan hike, especially the chance to cool off at Big Rock Falls. The campground was packed on a weekenddont expect woodsy solitude!but other campers were friendly without being intrusive. Excellent amenities for keeping wildlife at a safe distance, with bear-proof dumpsters as well as, at many sites, large bear-proof food storage boxes. IMPORTANT NOTE: Showers cost $5 for 10 minutes (requiring all quarters, but change machines are available). This is a LOT more than coin-operated showers at other public campgrounds Ive visited.

Tent pad was a little too rocky at my site and was not completely level. This made it difficult to sleep well.

Beautiful park with lots of scenic trails and wonderful visitor center. Large RV's should not use the Royal Entrance as your confirmation may state because of the bridge you will NOT fit and have to take a very long trip back to another entrance. Also, the campsites are very nice but big rigs just don't fit easily. We have a 40' fifth wheel and will stay outside the park next time. The Rangers were especially helpful Shelly and Joseph? John? (sorry bad with names!). I have medical needs and they were able to help us with an ADA site. Branches near the entrance of the Ranger station could use a trim as they are low and will scratch the roof of your large fifth wheel so again, be careful if you have a large camper. Ranger programs were great!

Beautiful campground. Camping solo, I felt safe. , bathrooms were not as clean as other federal parks I have visited. There is a separate facility for showering. Showers cost $5.00 for 10 minutes. I will definitely camp there again.

Peaceful campground. Nice tent sites. Clean facilities throughout the area. We will be back.

Clean, and nice respite from backcountry camping! Note that the showers are $5/10 minutes. Easy walk to the lodge to grab some coffee or a meal, and walking distance to the Wayside for supplies.

It was a wonderful visit. There were some noisy neighbors with very vocal young children, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves, so it wasn't that big a deal. There were some quiet neighbors too! The hikes are always wonderful and the programs are the best.I would mention that you now have EV charging stations in both Big Meadows and Skyland. And you might want to expand the number because every time I tried to charge, it was busy. More EVs are on the road, so you should expand that.

What a beautiful place! All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Our site was lovely and the park was huge. Can't wait to return

We got a last minute pull through campsite to watch the meteor showers. We woke up at 2 to view them in the meadow, and the bonus was to see the Northern Lights!
@MaryM8380528 · Camped on Aug 11, 2024 at Campsite #127
The campsite was excellent. Plenty of space between sites. The bathrooms and showers were clean. A must do activity at Shenandoah is to enjoy the blackberry ice cream and cobbler at one of the restaurants in the park. Big Meadows campground is centrally located in the park and that makes it convenient to get to other attractions north or south. We only stayed two nights. Wish we had more time to attend more ranger talks.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
