Dumpster was full the whole weekend and at least 3 campsites had fires. Made us feel very uncomfortable. Wish they still had a camp host or the rangers came by more often.

Always enjoy camping at Red Feather at little Grass Valley Reservoir! First visited when it opened up when I was a kid back in 1969. Brought my kids when they were growing up and now bringing my grandkids. A lot of great memories!

I know there was a forest fire near this campground in recent years because my annual trip was cancelled because of it. It seems like the forest service or whoever cuts timbers in this campground went absolutely crazy cutting down older growth trees and bucking them up for firewood for campground patrons. This has left sparse shade throughout the campsites and this area gets pretty warm during the summer. They also neglected to take down the dead matchstick looking like trees throughout the campground as well as the obstructive trees around the individual camping pads. You know the ones that block your awning or slide from being able to be used. Also, after all these years of going to this campground the facilities are pretty neglected. The only upgrade I've noticed over the past 10 years are bathroom stalls have had doors added to the men's room. They are pretty gross, and I only use them if absolutely necessary. You used to be able to get potable water near the dump station but now that's turned off. The road entrance to the campground is in horrible shape and you will damage your vehicle or trailer if you don't pay attention.

The lake itself is lovely and the air and water temperatures were perfect, considering it was in the 100's at lower elevations. The campground is in dire need of maintenance. Site #8, listed as "Prime Lakefront" is neither Prime, nor Lakefront! You can sometimes barely make out that there's a lake if you're at the perfect angle to see thru the trees. The fire ring was just a rusted out strip of metal and the picnic table is guaranteed to give you many splinters. But at least the water was working while I was there, July 4-6, 2024.Site #9 doesn't have the extra charge for being "lakefront" but does have a much better view of the lake than #8.

Site #45 is awesome. We would like to get Verizon cell service though. Thank you!

Beautiful, clear lake with walking trails.

I was at site #46. Excellent site for me because it has a lot of sun throughout the day for my van roof solar panels. The bear box should have been located somewhere else because it gets a lot of sun for hours which melted my ice quickly. Bathrooms, water spigot, trash bins very close by. excellent view of reservoir. Great spot. Also has resident squirrels which are bouncing about.

I have camped here my whole life. I love it! The reservoir was high during our visit in early August, and we felt like we were on beachfront property. Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful location that I still consider my home away from home, and a new adventure every year! Next year we will bring extra TP, just in case it is needed. We are not sure why there were porta-potties during our visit, and hope the regular bathroom facilities are reopened.

Beautiful campground and campsite (45) as well. Nice walking/bike riding trail that runs through 3 campgrounds and beyond. Lake water is clean and refreshing.

Campground in general was good but the bathrooms were filthy and ran out of toilet paper. The road getting into campground has been bad for years but getting worse all the time. Things are disarray in our trailer from the potholes and pits in road. I’d gladly pay more for camping if the road can be improved

There wasn’t a camp host and a huge trailer pulled into the loop drive a head of us and then 3 cars, including us, had to wait 25 mins to drive around to our site. I don’t think the person would have done that off there had been a camp host.

We love little grass valley reservoir! Red feather campground is close to the water when the reservoir is high but becomes quite a bit further during low water years and towards the end of the season. The shore line is very shallow in the red feather area witch makes landing a boat more difficult but not impossible. Fishing can be very good with best results noted from a boat. The camp ground itself is generally clean and well kept but has been slightly under maintained the last few years. I'm sure this is largely due to staffing difficulties. There is a healthy bear population that frequents the parks, so keeping a clean camp and putting up food storage containers is essential. Bear resistant lockers are available in each site. Fire pits and grill grates are available at most sites but fire danger is high. Exercise extreme caution and follow local burn recommendations. Potable water is usually available; however, the wells have been known to run dry during drought times. Use water sparingly so we can all continue to enjoy this beautiful piece of the Plumas national forest!

We have been going to Red Feather Campground for many many years, but this one was the worst year ever! We could not have any campfires, could not use the water or the restrooms they had portable toilets and sanitary hand washing stations and the weather was unbearable. Hopefully next summer will be much better. I would not recommend anyone go camping up there this year with the campfire and water restrictions. Not an enjoyable time at all.
@HollyJ268 · Camped on Jun 21, 2021 at Campsite #55
Bathrooms were not open so there were porta-potties
@JenniferJ584 · Camped on Sep 4, 2020 at Campsite #27
The campground was relatively quiet, but the upper part of loop 2 has incredibly sloped campsites. Our campsite entrance was opposite of the way traffic is directed so we had to back the trailer all of the way in. The lower loop sites looked flat and relatively easy to access. I recommend those sites over the upper part of loop 2.

Everything was nice. However, they have to fix the restrooms. They are DISGUSTING.
@JulieD100 · Camped on Aug 16, 2020 at Campsite #45
The road into the campground starts off paved then turns to gravel and back to paved. There are some pretty big potholes, but still a decent road in and out. We camped in loop 2 or loop E depending on what map you look at (sites #23- #60. ). The road in the loop is very narrow and there’s a pretty hard corner for larger rigs. Not impossible we made it in our 40 foot motorhome. We watched many other rigs slow down to a crawl and take it very carefully. It’s not for a novice driver. Campground was great!!! Yes there are bears that visit almost nightly

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
