Wonderful time! Black Mountain staff and Briar Bottom host were all so friendly and helpful to make sure we had a good time.

My family stays 1 week each year at briar bottom in July. This year as always we had an amazing time. I will say the host this year were friendlier than the last few years. The host in Broar Bottom(Tim...I believe I'm remembering correct) was on top of things. He made sure the restrooms were clean to the best of his ability although a large messy group did stay for a few days while we were there he did his best to keep up.

Campsite was beautiful. Camp hosts at Briar Bottom were great. However, the bathroom situation was very unpleasant. Toilets didn't flush, faucets leaked, floors were constantly wet. On our third day there was no water at all. Camp host was unable to tell us if or when water would be back on. So we left early. Unfortunate since it was a beautiful day.

We have camped at black mtn/briar bottom campground for the last 13 years and camp in various campgrounds often. This was the worst experience in a campground we’ve ever had. We were in the group site Maple. There was a group of ~100 people in the back 2 sites. They were loud & disrespectful of our privacy. From shooting guns, playing volleyball next to our site until 9:00 pm (screaming the entire time), playing loud music past midnight, driving a loud truck around past 1 am. Hanging in the field talking loudly past 11pm, shining lights at our tents. The list goes on and on. Very dissatisfied and disappointed in this campground and trip.

We always love our camping trips to Briar Bottom! It's a "happy place" for my children and me, and our friends who join us. It's perfect for family-friendly hiking, splashing in the river, trail running, and unplugging with people you love.

Love this part of NC. The campground is excellent. The new port-o-johns are a hit at Maples.

We had a wonderful time at Briar Bottom. The restrooms were clean. The staff was very responsive if we had a need or question. The campsite was very nice. We hiked up Mt. Mitchell so our location was perfect. There are so many wonderful trails near Briar Bottom the we only hiked the Mt. Mitchell Trail & the Setrock Falls trail. Leaving more for next time. Loved having the pavillion. Highly recommend Crabtree Falls, Setrock Falls & Roaring falls trails. Setrock & Roaring Fork are gentle. Elevation change with Crabtree. Be sure to research them before you set out. Mt Mitchell Trail is not for beginners. 3600+ feet in elevation gain in 5.6 miles. You need to be prepared with fitness, water & food. Hiking poles highly recommended. To enhance your enjoyment - take the pressure off & put a vehicle at the top at Mt. Mitchell State Park. You can do this the night before - be sure to fill out a registration form & leave it in the vehicle - it is free. This allows you to take your time hiking up - if you do it & have time - then sure hike back down - but knowing you don't have to hike back down allows you to enjoy the journey of getting there. Happy Trails - and thank you to the wonderful staff at Briar Bottom, Black Mountain Campgrounds & Mt. Mitchell State Park - and the volunteer trail maintainers!!

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
