There were no campsites available on the river side, so we had no option but to reserve Site #24 on the Highway side. It was close to a water spigot and a short walk to the outhouse, which consisted of two separate toilets. The outhouse were clean and stocked with toilet paper, and had air fresheners which helped with the smell as long as people remembered to put the toilet seat back down.Out site was spacious with plenty of room for 3 backpacking tents. The huge fir trees would occasionally rain pine cones down on us which was kind of comical watching them bounce off the tents.The highway noise was awful. It went on day and night and was so loud at times we couldn't hear each other talking with normal voices. I resorted to ear plugs the 2nd night which helped tremendously. The State should look into replanting vegetation or trees on the edge of the campsite to help deaden the noise coming from the highway.We had fairly quiet neighbors and the campground host toured the grounds regularly.The campground location is ideal for hiking around the Mountain. We went to the Naches Tavern for dinner and the food was pretty good.

The campground is big, the campsites are huge.We stayed in 42 which is a premium river site. River is too fast to play in but is great background noise.42 was large and very exposed to everyone. Right across the street from the toilet so that smell did waft over when the wind was just right.We had slight cell phone service. AT&TRoad is paved, so bring your scooters. Road noise wasnt bad because we were near the river. Host was very attentive, and kept the campground very nice. Every site in the campground is very large and you are not close to neighbors although theres not much brush or trees to stop you from seeing everything. Riverside is the most popular, and I would never pay to stay on the roadside, unless I absolutely needed to. I just dont like seeing cars and I think the speed limit is 60 so might be dangerous for kids and pets on that side. Overall fun place! Only took a star off because of the stink of the pit toilet.

Redo to update cell coverage

Great campground for exploring Mt Rainer and a couple hiking/mtb trails to explore right from camp. River access is tricky from most campsites or non existent due to the river eroding the cliff, but the day use has easy great access. Staying not in a river spot has lots of noise from hwy 410 and would not reccomend.

I stayed at site 28 a Wednesday - Friday and thought it was a great site! Nobody on the right of you and it's very spacious. You can hear the river roaring at all times. I will say I would not stay at most of the highway side spots at this campground, especially like 2-18 if I recall, they are like 20 feet from the highway with little to no tree coverage. When I was walking by checking them out I thought I would not want a child staying in one of those sites, and you can probably feel the wind of the cars zooming by at 60mph. A lot of those sites were significantly smaller than the river side as well. Access to the river wasn't clearly marked but there's some steep little climb down areas between some sites that I found along with if you go off the trail a bit that starts in the campground you can access it. Overall I would stay at the Dalles again on the river side sites.

We loved this campground. It was so quiet and peaceful. Its also pretty close to Mt. Rainier National Park, about a hour to Paradise. Although the campground only has vault toilets they were very clean and didnt smell. We were also pleased with our site (45). It was big and spacious, plenty of room for our tent. There was a river nearby that the kids loved playing in and it was nice to hear the river at night. Make sure to get a site on the river side. About half the sites are on a busy highway. You could see and hear the cars zooming by.

Campground was easy to navigate. Large campsites along river with a lot of room. Close to Mount Rainier Sunrise Point.

I've been to this campground a few times. It's a barebones rustic campground with basic sites that are spaced far enough apart to give a bit of privacy. Nice views of the river, and not far from the Mt Rainier Sunrise corridor entrance. Cell coverage is poor.

Site #12 Highway side. This site is directly across from a water spigot, and next to a bathroom and trashcan. The site is separated from the bathroom and trashcan by some brush and trees, so it didnt feel too close to either.I set up a tent for my dog and I, and there are two trees near the campground road that are good for a clothesline, hammock, or for tying your dog out. This site is separated from the highway by about 50 feet of brush and trees. The sound of cars passing by is pretty constant but settles down at night. I didnt mind it either way. This seems like a popular campsite for families and their pets as well, so I felt it was pretty safe. This does mean that dogs may be barking or kids being loud, but that comes with the territory. I felt everyone was respectful and tried to keep the noise down.There is a short and flat path down to the river, which splits in two with one section being gentle and safe to sit or play in. The Dalles River trail is nice as well. Camp is close to really popular trails or access points to Mt Rainier. We went to Chinook Pass PCT Trailhead because dogs are permitted on the PCT here.Appreciate this site, campground, and the maintenance and upkeep I saw going on!

Lovely campground near the white river. We camped on the river side. It was very quiet and peaceful even though it is a near the road. The camp sites are well-spaced, not too crowded. Beautiful forest. Would camp here again

I made an online reservation for a campsite at American Forks campground (site 7) for 9/19-9/20/2023. When I arrived (one hour after checkout time), someone was occupying it but they werent there. Thinking they were running late, I left and came back at 5:00 pm and they were still occupying it. This time the party was there so I spoke with them and they said they had a reservation. They told me they had stopped at the Naches ranger station and were told all campsites were open and to self-register for any one they wanted. I realized there was a mixup so I thanked them for the explanation and left. So I did not get to stay in my reserved spot.

Lovely campsite. Just a short walk to the vault toilet, and the fresh water spigot is right across the road. There was plenty of room for 3 small tents, and we slept peacefully with the sound of the White River running below the campsite. Nice, sturdy picnic table for our camp stove, water jugs, lanterns, s'more maker and card games. The campground is close enough to the town of Greenwater for a great burger at the Tavern, and close enough to choose from multiple hikes. If you go on a weekend and plan to get into Sunrise, get up early. We did not and the line to get in was miles long! We turned around and found another hike down Hwy. 410. We talked about making this an annual trip because we enjoyed it so much. Very clean and quiet campground -- bravo to the camp hosts! Even our restroom was well maintained.

We stayed here in our 32 foot RV. We had plenty of space for our vehicle and the campsite itself was quite large. The forest is lovely. Our only regret was that we only had two nights to spend here. Be sure to check out the river before you leave.

Great camping along the white river. BeautifulForests and so many trails for hiking and mtn biking. About 30 min from the Sunrise lodge.

The location of this campground is close to many attractions in the area, like Sunrise, Crystal Mountain Gondola, and Mt. Rainier. We camped on the roadside, there was traffic in the evening and morning but it was calm during the night. The riverside is definitely more of an outdoor experience. We weren't really greeted by anyone when we pulled but we were able to find our site easily. There was a fire ban while we were there but we saw several other people with fires. We camped in a tent and we were able to find a flat spot to lay. There wasn't anyone very close to us so we had privacy. Bathrooms were vault toilets, no hand sanitizer but plenty of toilet paper. There was also a spigot conveniently located near our site.

I paid $38 and there was no flat space for my tiny tent! Toilet was old and dirty and dark. Very noisy - traffic started at 4:00 a.m. on the highway.

The camp-site was spacious and on the White River side. No services except vault toilets and access to water. I did catch a little sun on solar panel.Very sweet campground.
@TerriR903C3175 · Camped on Aug 9, 2023 at Campsite #25
The Dalles campground was beautiful! Our campsite was large and flat and although it was on the highway side, there was a nice buffer of trees. The Douglas Firs are gorgeous and it was an easy walk to the White River. The campground was pretty quiet and the pit toilets were clean and always had toilet paper. The camp host was the most hands-off camp host we've ever encountered. We barely saw her and there was no welcome or communication of any kind. It was convenient to Mount Rainier NP and easy to find. We would definitely return!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
