Porta-Potty and water pump were a long walk from site, but privacy from adjacent sites was a good tradeoff

Excellent primitive camping experience. Very rustic. The C&O Towpath is very busy, so plan accordingly. Lots of eyes on your campsite 24 hours a day, so this adds a feeling of security to be in the company of many like-minded individuals. Expect foot traffic and site occupancy to increase exponentially on weekends, and make sure to check the local calendars of events for activities that could add additional complications. Easily accessible to Shepherdstown, WVA just a couple of minutes east for any modern needs. All told, I could not ask for better arrangements than Antietam Creek Campground. I will definitely return regularly.

Our usual campsite spot was all that we have come to enjoy. The only difference being that the vegetation overgrowing the steep path down to the river's edge had gone wild.After some careful pruning, the descent was its usual rooty, steep slope.

This is my favorite campsite and had a wonderful stay as always.

Loved our time here. Right on the river. Im sure at certain times of the year there can be a lot of foot traffic due to the C&O trail, over all great location, clean, easy, tons of wild life. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful for a fall campout once the leaves are down and you can see the river. Only improvement I would ask for would be to make the well water drinkable.
@TimM9090024 · Camped on Nov 8, 2023 at Campsite #10
Lovely spot by the Potomac. Only question was would the pump actually produce water had we needed it and I gave up after many pumps. Other than that, we quite enjoyed the campsite and location.

Nice campsite, close to parking. Fire pit was great but would have been nice to have firewood options nearby. Also could be helpful to have campsite numbers closer to the road to find it easier after dark.

Beautiful park and camping. Searched for firewood by riding around the local area without success. Ended up scavenging some wood from park wooded area but there wasnt much. Park restrooms were gross need more frequent cleaning service. Restrooms are heavily used by trail users.

We had a good time. Site 5 could use a little better path to the river but everything was good.
@KarenK3878935 · Camped on Sep 3, 2023 at Campsite #18
Site 18 is an easy set up from the road, as it is right across the canal. Sadly, this ease also attracts squatters, whether they are set up at the campsite itself, or set up in floaties at the riverbank, necessitating them walking through your campsite. It's also very close to site 17, which is a smaller site and so if the people in 17 are exceeding the maximum number of people and tents, they will leak over into your peace and quiet. Overall, it was an okay night, made better by the fish I was able to catch the next morning after the waters had settled down from the squatters.

Beautiful campground. The biggest complaint is that by Sunday morning there were no trash/recycling bags left.
@BRIANC8885365 · Camped on Jul 18, 2023 at Campsite #16
The campground was quite empty this time (July 18-20). Only a couple other sites occupied. There was no campground host, which ended up being just fine. Port-o-Johns were clean, the campground was quiet, pump handles were on for water...really no complaints. My only request would be a way to obtain firewood those who can't bring their own (traveling by bicycle, for example). I love being able to make a reservation at this campground vs. the hiker-biker sites along the trail.

Lots of fun and a decent amount of space per area. Sound travels between campsites. Lots of bikers go through and seem pretty nice. It was a clean space, but the bathroom was pretty knarly at the end of the weekend. Would definitely go back at some point.

Site 20 is the last site in the campground and offers near 100% privacy with easy access to the Potomac. It’s a short 100 yard trip to the car. Sites were tidy, lots of history, very cool stop. Be aware it’s buggy and very primitive. Bring your own water and there’s no showers on site so plan accordingly. Convenient to a day trip to Harpers Ferry and Charlestown has all the stores you need for provisions

Poison ivy is surrounded by the campsite. It wasn't fun to keep an eye on every time we turn. The paths to the river are full of poison ivy. The campsite has a nice campfire pit and the picnic table is very sturdy. It is a private site and that is a bonus. No trees to hang the hammocks because of poison ivy. Nothing to hang. Water pump is not very far. Potty johns are a bit further so if need to go to the bathroom. Be sure to not hold in. The bathroom is nasty. It is not clean. Potty John is much better.
@NicoC9098951 · Camped on May 25, 2023 at Campsite #9
We really enjoyed this campsite. Campsites 8 and 9 are closest to the footbridge to carry gear in/out since you can’t park at the site itself. It’s maybe a 1-2 walk to your car. Fire pit and charcoal grill at each site. Downsides are no water at the campground and only bathroom was a portable. There was increased noise from the road and air traffic above but nothing outrageous. Lots of dogs at the campground and one barked most of the night. Not a negative on the site itself but something to be aware of. Our site had leftover trash (some plastic cups in the fire pit and a plastic grocery bag in the bushes). Town of Sharpsburg is very close. We got ice cream at Nutter’s (there was a line wrapped around the corner and it was worth it). If you’re into history, Antietam Battlefield is 15 mins away and has much to explore. Overall a very pleasant one night stay!

The pot-a-johns and the outhouses were not well maintained. Make sure to bring your own TP. The water point was a great distance from the sites the lower numbered sites. A short drive from the battlefield, overall, a great location.
@Christoph47204 · Camped on May 4, 2023 at Campsite #1
The bathroom and water pump are in the center of the camp. If you stay at the end of the camp it is a pretty good walk to get to the pump and bathroom.

The physical site was fine, but the ground was quite bumpy. It made it quite challenging to get comfortable. The other guests at some of the sites were an issue. Guests from at least two other sites were loud and swinging their lights around wildly, blinding anything in their path. We were lying out trying to gaze at the starts, and were flashed in the eyes multiple times. It hurt and was quite frustrating.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
