Great spot to set off for group hiking. Very well maintained, spacious private sites, plenty of parking. Note most sites are on quite a slope and some sites are quite distant from the parking lot/bathroom/dumpsters. Water is a 6 minute drive to the visitor center.

The campsites (we were in Rohrbach site nos. 2, 8, 9 and 10, which were in good shape, and we enjoyed the campout and the chance to hike on the battlefield. However, as I noted in a phone call to the Antietam Visitors' Center on Monday, Oct. 2, we did encounter a ground hornet nest right next to the tables/campfire area of Site 10 (on the north side, almost at the eastern end, right next to the wood beam enclosing the table area. We did not know about it, and one of the scouts must have accidentally kicked into it, and some of the scouts were stung. No one was injured , but it could have been a major problem, if any had an allergy. I strongly suggest warning groups reserving Site 10 about this ground hive, and that the NPS consider taking steps to remove the ground hive problem.

The facility was perfect. The only hardship was the lack of water but as we knew there would be none before hand we came prepared. Even the bathroom was not terrible for an primitive campsite. I would highly recommend any troops interested in having their scouts disconnect come here... because there is no wifi signal or power so they scouts will eventually have no phones :)

Solid group campsite. No water available on site, but water was available at visitor center during their open hours. Sites are roomy, and there was lots of cut and seasoned firewood available. Very limited cell signal.

Great camping location for Scouts when hiking the Antietam Battlefield. Only downside is there is no water available, but I knew this going in, so it wasn't an issue.

Registration process was simple and we appreciated that they provide firewood.

The campground was in good shape and the boys enjoyed the time spent at Antietam. Having a pile of firewood was also a plus!

The site was well maintained with an ample supply of firewood ready. My only suggestion would be to possibly dig out the fire ring a little, as it was close to the brim with leftovers. Other than that, Troop 279 had a great time and would definitely come again!

Need better access to the lower sites a parking area down near site 9 and 10 would help

It was so easy to get set up and camp. There was a lot of open space, the bathrooms were cleaned, and the firewood was well stocked. The only issue we had was that we didn't know which site we were on when we set up camp. There are no markers for where each camp site is so we ended up on another group's site. It turned out okay in the end, but some clear markers to show which site is which would be helpful. The map was a bit confusing.

This is a great option for scout troops or other youth groups to camp right next to the battle field. Sites are large and flat for easy set up. We met some other really nice troops in the sites near us, so take the time to mingle and make new friends. Overall, a very good experience. There is not a water source right at the campsite, so be sure to bring a few containers of water. You can at a source that is fairly close.

Great campsites with nice latrine facilities. The only complaints would be lugging all of the gear up and down the hill to the campsite from the parking area.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
