So quiet with only 5 campsites.

Been here before, love the peace and quiet as well as the quick access to Camp Sherman and Hola! for a supper.

In late August, a quiet, clean campground on the Metolius River. Catch the West Metolius River trail at the campground and finish at the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, 5 miles round-trip. Water is clear, cold and often a lovely aqua marine color, with several "beaches" for dogs to drink, and for dogs and people to cool off.

One of the most beautiful, peaceful and open campsites we've visited in Oregon! Ponderosa pine forest, gorgeous Metolius River and big, open campsites with plenty of room for large tents. The water was crystal clear and freezing, but that didn't stop the kids from jumping in! Make time to walk along the trail downstream about 1/4 to a beautiful waterfall coming off the opposite bank.

The map on both recreation.gov and the one posted at the actual campsite are not accurate to the campsites themselves. The map shows 7 sites, there are only 5. Sites 4 &5 are NOT closer to the river like you’d expect. In fact sites 4&5 are furthest from the water. There are no sites 6&7??? Site 1 is closest to the vault toilet. Sites 2&3 are closest to the confluence of lower canyon creek and the Metolius and the ones we wished we had booked. We were disappointed to learn on arrival that our site (#4) was not closest to the river like we expected it to be. Still very confused how the map posted even within the campground is so wrong, bizarre. Maybe they’ve rearranged the campground and restored some sites back to natural habitat but forgot to update the map? Would recommend recreation.gov check in on accuracy of this campground’s layout. All that said, it was a super quiet campground (only 5 sites) which we loved and easy walkable river access. The west Metolius trailhead is right next to this campground. We had a fantastic weekend once we got over the confusion upon arrival and would recommend this campground as a quiet option right on the Metolius. We will just book site 2 or 3 to be right next to the waters edge next time around.

Delightful. Bathroom very clean.

The campground has very view sites making it a very relaxing place to listen to the Metolius. Sites are large and facilities are clean. We stayed at site 3 and although on the map it appears you are right next to the river it is just a short walk to the rocky shore. Great spot!

We enjoyed hiking to Wizard Falls Hatchery. 2.5 miles one way, easy trail, directly from campsite. No visual barrier between our campsite and the one next to us. Site 2. Nice to hear the river all night and our campsite was very large.

Our favorite spot. I only wish people would not use generators🙄😬. We go to this spot to listen to the River, wind and wildlife. A generator spoils it for those seeking solitude.

A dusty version of heaven. Nicely spaced sites and beautiful view of the confluence of Canyon Creek and the Metolius. Bathroom was well maintained and cleaned every day but only concern is the dispersed campers from around that also use the toilet make for a lot of people and one vault.

The only bummer about camping at Lower Canyon Creek was that no maps were available online to determine which sites are closest to the river. I took a shot in the dark and booked #2 and it turned out to be the best spot at the campground complete with direct river access and a mellow swimming hole. I would go back for sure.

We had a very nice stay with some friends at this well kept campground. We reserved two sites. The spots are well spread, for the most part. It's at the head of a trail down the Metolius, so you do get some daytrippers coming in and wandering through some of/near the sites. They have sufficiently blocked some spots with big rocks from being able to position an RV or trailer.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
