Laura Lake is a beautiful campground. It was very clean and obviously well-cared for. A tip: we were able to get a wifi connection at the picnic table next to the Gordon Lake campground. Athough the connection came & went, it was often 5G allowing both my husband and myself to download a library book to our Kindles!

The pit toilet was a little more odorous than other places Ive camped, and even at my campsite we would sometimes catch a whiff. Maybe because later in the season? Our site was amazing, beautiful wooded area between us and the beach and very quiet. Even with the stinky pit toilet still one of the best campsites Ive visited.

We love this campground. It's rustic and beautiful. However, on this trip we had a bad experience with a nearby camper who ran his generator 24/7 the whole week we were there. There hasn't been a campground host all season and there was nobody to enforce the quiet hours. In addition, the place is in need of maintenance. The road leading to the campground is in disrepair, as are the gravel roads within the campground. Many of the fire rings need replacement. There is a bog lake on the property but the boardwalk leading to the lake is in such disrepair that it is dangerous. Cell phone service is spotty at best.

Laura Lake is probably my favorite place to go camping. It is only 40 minutes from my home so it is an easy drive. I love that it has nothing but hand pump water and pit toilets. Sites are large and not crowded. The first loop (1-15) has the most mature old growth forest and the sites are certainly closest to the lake in the first loop. The only negative if you have a family is that there is nothing around the area. You are a good 40 minutes from Iron Mountain, MI if you need stores. If you are older, retired and happy just to sit at your campsite than this is the place for you.

Beautiful crystal clear water. Fishing was good for Bass. Very quiet campground. Sites are spaced well apart.

Always enjoy the area for years but I wish you would offer power and a place to dump your black tank I would be happy to pay more a day for those features

Fantastic campground with spacious sites.

Campground is great. We've been going there for years. You have to like boondocking because there are no electrical hookups or running water and only vault toilets. Some of the campfire rings are badly in need or replacement and the road in the campground hasn't been maintained for a long time, leaving serious potholes.

All was very good except 2 things. Not having a camp host at a very busy campground like Laura Lake could have potentially been a problem. NF service needs to find better ways to either compensate hosts or change rules, like a 2 week commitment for example. Also, I have no problems with generator use except for the old and cheap contractor types. I strongly suggest a simple policy requiring on demand inverter type generators and enforce the decibel sound level to 60 decibels from each site. There are now available phone apps for decibel sound reading that park rangers could use at no cost.

Clean and quiet. Spacious sites set far enough apart from each other provide a nice enclosure out of site from neighboring eyes. Sandy beach and awesome bike trails.

The grounds, restrooms and campsite were well taken care of by the Campground Host... it was the same as last year which was our first camping experience at Laura and Gordon Lake. It is becoming our favorite place to go!

it is blissfully quiet at laura lake and i am grateful for that; i love being able to get water from the tap/well near the host campsite; the bathrooms are clean; two years ago, it was EXTREMELY disconcerting to arrive at laura lake planning to camp on the way home from a trip farther north and to find the gates shut despite the internet listing saying LL would be open past the date i was there for; not having internet, i had to drive home rather than try to find another spot; a guest this year said they also closed the gates early last year before the published and posted closing date; i camped earlier in the fall and had called ahead and was told LL would be open thru the posted date; LL's description tells about the bog at the back of the lake; it is a truly beautiful spot but the boardwalk to it is in huge disrepair and i don't know if it will bear weight; it needs replacement; i would suggest an open public shelter be made available at this park; i have never encountered disrespectful guests at this park; kudos;

People need to be more considerate with generator use.

Laura lake is a great camp ground .Been coming here for 35 years. We did have a issue with generators running very early 6:15am. And running all evening long. How can we sit around the campfire at night with all that noise, can't hear the Loons, the owls, the wolves anything. After a while the noise gives you a head ache . The canoe rides on the lake all you can hear are generators running. I always liked the no boat motor rule because it is peaceful & quiet. Generator rule would be so nice 10am to 5pm so everyone has a equal chance to enjoy there camping experience. My entire family enjoy camping & this location is a favorite!!! Talking to other campers here feel the same way, why do generators have to run all day & all night?

Both the lakes are extremely beautiful and provide fun for swimming as well as fishing. The camping grounds were well kept and we felt safe the entire trip. To add on, the bathrooms were extremely clean and allowed for a comfortable experience.

This is our new favorite campground! The campground gets 5 stars. Plenty of privacy between sites. We floated on the lake, paddled around it, hiked the lake trails, enjoyed the loons, biked on the trails and local roads, and simply enjoyed the solitude. Verizon service was poor at best...which made the trip even better! 6 stars to the hosts, Carl and Sharon! Take a fantastic campground, add hosts that care and work hard to keep things top notch and you have the winning combo! We'll be back.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
