We were unable to make it to the cabin due to the condition of the road. The last 4-5 miles were impassable for anything but an ATV or off road vehicle. Per the listing we tried to go with 4 wheel drive, high clearance vehicles, but the road narrows significantly and is extremely steep and rocky. I would not recommend that anyone without off roading gear and experience attempt to reach this cabin.

all scores on 1 being not good to 5 great : Wildlife 3 there is a porcupine every night on the cabin chewing the decking. Saw 3 deerCabin itself 4.5 windows are too small very dark, no screen door and window screens have holes. Interior Cabin amenities 5 were greatSurroundings area 5 very niceOuthouse 1 disgusting, dirty and smelly Wood supply 5 great and we added to pileRoad 2 when we called and asked road conditions we should have been told that trailer travel to the cabin was virtually non existent. we had to unload bike and drop trailer part way up. Lakes access 2 when we called and asked we were not told high clearance bikes would be required to get anywhere. Very disappointed in trails that were side by side friendly.Signage 2 there is very poor and very little signage. Historic map landmarks are not even marked. I will not recommend or return to this cabin due to lack of access by standard side by side.

The cabin was perfect! For a 3 day girls vaccation with the horses we had a blast. Pozega lake was breath taking but I would not recommend taking any motorized vehicles up that trail. Creek was perfect and even caught some brook trout. Everything was clean and in great working order. Will be going back again.

We loved this cabin! One of the cleanest and best stocked that we have been to. Located along a beautiful creek. The road is very rocky and narrow, you need a 4-wheel drive high clearance vehicle.

What a great way to get away from it all in the winter. Beautiful country and definetly quiet when you are 8 miles back in there!

The cabin is excellent. Based on past reviews it seems USFS installed a new wood stove with a glass door; fully stocked the kitchen with plates, bowls, cookware, and a propane stove; and an axe and hatchet in the wood shed. Still bring your own propane so that the canisters there can be used for emergencies. Wood was fully stocked in the shed. Kudos to USFS for all this. For those snowmobiling in, please be respectful of the private land surrounding the access road before the campground. We saw two snowmobilers doing laps on his land, despite signs along the road indicating the area was private.

I've stayed at this cabin two times now. Enjoyed it thoroughly both times. I'd recommend to anyone to bring along a couple of mouse traps and keep all your non refridgerated(cooler) food in plastic totes. Also maybe a can of fly spray.

Garbage sitting in fire pit from other users; could not have fire due to Stage 2, bummer to have graffiti on walls and ceiling. Out house is a REAL outhouse-- needs to be moved, re-dug, and repaired. Great to have screens on the windows and front door of the cabin, and no mice!

The Cabin was in good condition, and was a very nice place to stay. The road in to the cabin is a trail not a road. You can drive to the cabin with some driving skills and a capable off road vehicle, we drove a Jeep and a Toyota. If you do not like to drive off road then you may think about the hike in from the campgrounds. We hiked the 4.5 mile trail from the cabin to Big Pozega Lake, and then back. There were a few un invited visitors that stopped by the cabin on their way up the trail, but overall the cabin was very clean and quiet. We will be back! Thank you Forrest Service for the great experience.

Loved this rustic cabin. We did have to cut fallen trees off the road, must have chainsaw. Good fishing for Brooke trout right at the cabin, creek is amazing. Saw a Grizz on the road when riding the ATV. Road to cabin is really a Jeep trail, be ready for adventure!

We visited Racetrack Cabin during the coldest week of the year and still loved it. The directions didn’t work for us - references to a plowed road aren’t helpful when there is no plowed road! (We parked near the first cattle guard.) There isn’t great signage but our best guidance is - once you cross the creek a second time, you’re about a mile away. This is our fourth winter cabin stay (third cabin) and the first ever to not have split wood. We always travel with an ax so it didn’t impact us but we could not have stayed if we hadn’t brought our own. Available firewood was quite low and we tried to use as responsibly as possible. The cabin supplies are sparse in general - plan to bring what you need and don’t assume the usual items are available. Our only request would be a glass window in the wood stove door so we could have had both light and heat. :) no complaints here, just want to help those who come behind to plan accordingly. It was quite an adventure and we’d love to return to check out the area in another season. Thanks for making this gem available.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
