Absolutely beautiful. Even though we got rain a couple days while we were there, it was so peaceful and relaxing. Great places to explore near by, and great little marina right around the corner from the campsite. We'll be going back!!

Site 10 (along with 11, 12 and 13) are all tucked in a corner of the campground and I felt that I had plenty of space from other campers. Beautiful area, lots of critters running around, a skunk, and a few deer in the area! Only thing site 10 was lacking was some perfectly spaced trees for hanging a hammock. Big enough for two tents, plenty of shade and right next to the water spigot. Easy walk to the lake and down to the marina store. ~15 minute drive to the Thompson Trail! As a woman camping solo, I had no worries here and look forward to coming back!

Reserved site #13 on line for August 15th. On arriving, this site has no flat areas and you must pass directly through site #12 to access. The entire campground was EMPTY except us. We decided to move to site #12 to get a flat area. I informed the host out of courtesy of our move to the empty adjoining site. He said NO! I had to pay him $20 to make the change. If I did it on-line, it would be zero fee. THERE IS NO CELL COVERAGE at this campground, so it is impossible to go online and make that useless,idiotic, and bureaucratic change. Another caretaker drove by and said he didn't see a problem moving if it was his call. The dude at Brookchar would NOT budge...he wanted his $20 bucks ( I have a senior pass and at worst it would have been $8.00 if there had really been a fee to collect, which there was not). Told him to stuff it and to contact his manager. He refused. The other caretaker guy drove away and and said he would discuss it with her. Bear in mind, the entire campground had zero reservations for that evening besides us. Completely empty and zero risk site #12 would have someone coming later. The non-host worker guy returned later to inform me that the manager had "OK'ed" the change for no fee over the objections of the "Host". It is zero fee to change a campsite....zero! Camped in most of the 50 states over past 50 years, never ever had a host try and extort cash from me,The host was a total buzzkill. Beware....BTW...for people who think the sites are well spaced, I walked off the distance between 12, 13, 11, etc...basically 45 to 50 feet between picnic tables. Not a lot as some have stated. I could tell what your eating at the next picnic table if I looked.

My favorite little campground for tenters in the White Mtn area around Big Lake. Clean sites in the tall pines with lots of space between them. Dark sky great for star watching. Nearby Crystal Lake offers wifi at a small cafe/store that also carry bike and kayak rental.

We got site 12. Beautiful spot, with a easy 1 minute trail directly to the lake, with a parking pull off the road for easy access to your site. All the other sites you have to haul your belongings from the parking lot. The parking spot is big enough for 4 cars. We had 2 vehicles. $10 a day for extra vehicles. People kept parking in our reserved spot, and the park host would come in and say “looks like you brought more vehicles”. Was very frustrating because we can’t control people parking in the reserved spot, ignoring the sign that says reserved, also that the reserved spot was so big. I feel they should put cones out or something if they plan on making the guest responsible for those parking in the space, so that we could block off vehicles other than our car. Trucks and RVs drive by at all hours of the night. There is a shower near the lake, about a mile from Brookchar. $9 per person. Fishing from the shore it hit or miss. People at the little store about 1/2 a mile before Brookchar campground are very helpful on where to locate the best fishing.

We went during the end of may. The campground is beautiful and has amazing views of the big lake. We were at site 12 which is just across the street with Big lake views. One of the best sites in my opinion. The campground has a parking lot and you have to walk to your site, but site 12 comes with its own reserved parking spot by the side of the road which is a bonus. The site can easily accommodate 3 tents. It gets cold during the night, but during the day it has little less shade. Highly recommend site 12 if you want a private site and a parking spot. We were also able to spot a deer just across the street near the lake. There is no network so make sure to download offline maps. Restrooms are clean and firewood is available for $10 cash. The entire area is beautiful with small lakes. The drive from Phoenix via Globe is very beautiful and goes through Salt River Canyon. Definitely worth a visit.

Pat was a great host. We were lucky that there was only one other camper. The site was clean and ready for us the bathrooms were also well maintained. It was a great place to relax on our way back home. The wildlife was not scared, even the skunks, which are great for keeping bears away. I recommend renting a boat and relax on the lake. We will definitely be coming back.

I camped here just after Labor Day weekend and had the place to myself. The camp host was really helpful, and I liked how close the sites were to the lake. I knocked off a star only because the campground is right off of Big Lake Road and it was pretty loud in the early morning as cars drove by.

TLDR: If you want peace and quiet seek elsewhere. I do not recommend staying here if you want to relax. The camp host does not enforce rules even during COVID. I rented two sites one for me and my partner and another for my sibling and his partner. We were unable to use one site completely because the site next to us has 11 tents on it. Yes, 11 tents. The site that bordered ours had another 8. These sites are meant for 1 to 2 tents tops. They also had 3 generators running and rant lights between each tent while occupying the site water spout. When confronting the host he said they are able to do whatever they want until quit hours. At 10 pm I and other campers confronted him over the loud noises still coming from their site(s) and all he did was tell them they will need to buy more campsites the next night. THEY DID NOT, THEY DID THE SAME THING THE NEXT NIGHT.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
