Had a good time, but had to do some light housekeeping when I got there, especially the bathtub. Cabin also needed to be aired out, very musty.

I do not believe you want to post this publicly.When we arrived at the Farnsworth Cabin on October 23rd we found conditions were not satisfactory. The whole living room area had a lot of dirt and debris on the floor. There was also a bag of lunch meat sitting on the top of the sofa. The kitchen sink was dirty as was the toilet. We had to spend a significant amount of time that first day cleaning the cabin including purchasing supplies to clean the toilet. There were brooms and vacuums so we could clean things up in the living room and we had brought our own kitchen supplies. The bathroom sink stopped up immediately upon use and could not be improved with the plunger so was backed up the whole time we were there. Apparently no one had reported that problem with the sink. I spoke with Laurie about the situation and she was trying to determine what had occurred for things to be in that condition. She encouraged me to request a partial refund because of the condition of the cabin and what we had to do to make it satisfactory before we could make us of what is a lovely space. We would like to request a refund of 1 days rental in consideration of what occured.

Beautiful cabin, beautiful site. Very remote! Easy to reserve and the staff members with whom I spoke were very kind and helpful.

This was our families third time staying at the cabin over the past five years. We love the location and how much privacy we had through out the week. We have always enjoyed hiking the trails and our kids enjoy playing in the creek. This year’s trip to the Farnsworth cabin was a little bit of a let down. We arrived there three hours after check in and there was still people there. Once we entered the cabin the floors we soaking wet from being mopped and the whole building smelled of bleach so strongly that we had to leave all of the doors open until dark. The next morning I woke up with a migraine from the fumes and the floors were still damp. It was very humid in there which didn’t help with the floors drying. The beds have been the same beds for the past five years which are terrible. We brought a mattress topper this year but even with that it was difficult to get a good nights sleep. The satellite cable was not working at all which was something our kids we’re looking forward to watching in the evening and early morning. As we do not have cable at home and it is stated that the cabin has satellite tv. I also went to use the microwave in the kitchen and it was sparking and smoking. I immediately unplugged it and let the cleaners know about it. In the past we have really enjoyed our stay there and we were able to over look small issues. But there is definitely some updates that need to be done to allow a more pleasant stay.

The cabin was awesome! My wife, 10 month old son, and dog went for a Friday and Saturday night and absolutely loved the experience. I couldn't believe how nice and well maintained everything was. The cabin was super clean and very comfortable. I even felt comfortable enough to walk around with just my socks on. We didn't use our vehicle all weekend, although you can drive to some cool places within 30 minutes or less. We hiked in the nearby trails, checked out the trout hatchery across the road, made some good camp foods, sat by the fire, and just relaxed around the cabin. It was a much needed break. The wifi was nice because there was no cell reception. The Direct TV wasn't working while we were there but we didn't care because we wouldn't have watched it anyway. Over the weekend there were a couple cars that came down the road to visit the hatchery, but we didn't chat with them and other than that we didn't have any interaction with humans. There are not other cabins nearby, you're all alone out there. We could not believe how awesome this place was and have all ready started thinking about returning. There are two big rooms, so this cabin would be perfect for two couples. Each bedroom has a queen bed and a bunk bed. The bathroom and shower was nice and clean too. Overall, I can't believe we were able to reserve such a nice place. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a great place to get away. You just have to realize that there is nothing else around and if you have to run to the store it's going to be a long drive. However, that's what we were looking for.

Need clearer instructions about location of key lock box (Old YouTube videos show it in basement doors). It is next to front door sign and hidden. Cabin and location are very nice. Only complaint is that bedroom windows do not open so gets stuffy. In hot weather it would be bad.

Farnsworth Cabin is a fairly spacious sized dwelling constructed in the late 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The trout hatchery and equipment garage was also constructed during this period as well. Setting of the Cabin is quite pretty with mostly second-third growth hemlock and red maples surrounding the property. Cabin is well stocked but can get stuffy and sticky if it is humid but there is a dehumidifier/fan. Along Farnsworth Creek there is a lovely trail that follows the creek as well. Fire pit looked like it was never clean out so I took the time to clean it out to have a nice fire. Every morning there was a mature bald eagle hunting for trout along the creek; it was quite pleasant to admire the bird early in the morning. There were also river otters in Farnsworth Creek early one morning as well. Be sure to view the night sky if you have a clear night; the milky way is highly visible from the Cabin. The Cabin is in a good launch point for various popular hikes and areas within ANF including Hearts Content (15 minutes), Hickory Creek Wilderness (20 minutes), Chapman State Park (25 minutes), Minister Creek (20 Minutes). Oil Creek State Park is about an hour away and Warren is about half an hour if you forget/need some items. Primary Complaints: Beds are horrendously uncomfortable especially after a few days of long hikes and excursions in ANF. At least one individual at the trout hatchery apparently "lives" there. Although I was aware that people would be in and out of the hatchery but I did not anticipate some being there all night riding ATV's, making noise, and shining lights towards us. Not oppressively disruptive; just annoying. Definitely disrupted the experience of getting away into the forest, having peace and quiet, and viewing the dark sky. Keep this in mind if you want to have solitude and peace. The cabin would have been perfect otherwise. Also, there is an active roof leak in the building which needs addressed as well.

Wonderful vacation, we will book again! The cabin has everything you need and if you can't find it, turn right at the fork where it says Farnsworth Trout Club. The area is beautifully kept and is truly mostly secluded, aside from the club across the road. Ive been to other cabins where there was shared bathrooms, etc, but this was the opposite and truly a relaxing experience. Our kids enjoyed it and the cabin was the perfect bday gift from my other half. Related note, the man from the trout club did not leave the entire 3 days we were there. Im not sure where he stayed, as there were no lights or anything, but super nice guy otherwise.

What a great cabin! Pretty much everything was in great shape and very well maintained. The kitchen was plenty well stocked with all the essential cookware and serving needs, including two coffee pots and even grilling accessories. Lots of cleaning supplies, trash bags, etc were available. Fans in each bedroom. The beds were pretty uncomfortable (mattress springs were easily felt-- bring a good mattress pad, it helped). Lights in the front bedroom flickered frequently after being on for a few minutes, may need bulbs changed or wiring checked. It doesn't appear that the windows open, so it could get pretty hot in the summer, though our visit was in mid-June and it was perfectly pleasant inside. One of my only real complaints was that the key was NOT located where it was shown in the video. Thankfully the caretaker was nearby when we arrived, or we would have never found it! We had zero cell reception (Verizon, T-mobile), but logging on to the cabin wifi did allow wifi calling abilities. The internet speed is very slow, but good enough for basic communication while you're there.

Cabin is really isolated; has great amenities, water pressure, and plenty of hot water. Our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Plan to arrive before dark to most easily find the cabin and acquaint yourself with it.

the cabin was perfectly isolated for a pandemic getaway. nice secluded location yet close to so much great Allegheny National Forest recreation (we kayaked, trail ran, and hiked). the cabin was clean and well equipped with what we needed although folks should remember to bring matches for the fire pit and grill (we forgot). WiFi is spotty so if you do need to work (i did) be prepared to get on the internet at off peak times (i did most of my working starting around 5am). very high humidity in the cabin but there is a de-humidifier that you can run if you don't mind the noise.

My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teen boys + puppy) had an absolutely lovely experience at Farnsworth. My one complaint is that the shower was really dirty when we arrived - neither 15 year old boy would go anywhere near it. A dedicated mom, a scrub brush, and some Clorox cleaner solved the problem. The rest of the cabin was pretty clean. The cabin is quaint and a bit dark when you first enter. It becomes quaint a absolutely lovely the longer you stay. Fire pit with sturdy grate made for some great outdoor meals. Kitchen was well stocked. Mattresses on bunks were much more comfortable than those on the queen beds. We did not miss air conditioning - in fact we had to find extra blankets from the car as it got pretty cool at night. Grocery store is 20+ minutes away. We really enjoyed downtown Warren - there a a handful of nice restaurants and a wonderful coffee shop. Fishing was OK, but not great. (It was mid July, which may have had something to do with it.) Very nice mountain biking trails in National Forest past the Kinzua dam. Perfect trees for hanging a hammock by the babbling brook behind the house.

Farnsworth Cabin was a wonderful experience, we had a blast. As long as you are aware of the "Trout Club" with trout hatchery, then you are good to go. They are right across the lane and did have people in and out. We just assumed the property line was the road, so stuck to our side and didn't get any complaints. The stream is beautiful, a lovely walkable area runs alongside most of it. There is a lake 20min North and Heart's Content Recreation Area 20min West, among other closeby attractions, making this a good launching point for multiple outings. The cabin comes pre-stocked with many amenities (dishes, TP, fans, etc.) which I underestimated. Just be sure to bring bed materials (sheets, pillows, blankets, etc.) and maybe a mattress topper as the larger bed we slept on was pretty hard. There is no AC, so prepare for that. We will definitely be back, I loved it.

Farnsworth cabin is so special. It’s such a unique piece of history. It was set up so well. We did a good bit of cooking during our four day stay and the well equipped kitchen made it so easy. The outdoor fire pit had a heavy duty grate over it that made outdoor cooking perfect. We loved our stay there and will cherish the memories we made there for a lifetime.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
