Fish Lake Remount Depot Cabins is located in the McKenzie River Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest (1 hr 1 min northwest of Bend, OR) with an elevation of 3,366 feet. There are a total of 2 campsites. The campground is normally open from the beginning of January to mid April. All sites are currently reservable. Fees range from $85.00 to $95.00.

I have only visited the fish lake cabins during the winter and early spring, so you might be able to drive up closer to the cabins to unload when they open the gates to the day area, but during the winter definitely suggest bringing a sled to pack heavy things! During April there was not enough snow on the ground and I wished we packed lighter or brought a wagon. Heat worked great, but the lights would loose charge so we use em sparingly/brought lanternsAlso, a note on mice. There are bound to be mice! Seal your food, hang your dish sponge out of their way, and bring your own cookware if you're worried about it.Lastly, I think a pair of glasses might've fallen out of a pocket when I was up there. They are clear and I believe day Nike on them. If ya see em can ya let the ranger station know I'm looking for em? Have a great stay !

The cabin is beautiful and well taken care of and the lake is gorgeous. My reason for 3 stars is because it is TOTALLY infested with mice. Upon arrival we found mouse feces everywhere, on counters, in drawers, etc. We stashed food in the box provided and left cold food outside in a locked cooler. I highly recommend NOT using the oven. We did use it and were met wirh the most disgusting, burning chemical smell ever. Even after we turned off the oven we had to open all doors and windows and sit outside for hours while it aired out. And even then we had to sleep with the doors open. We almost left in the middle of the night because of it. Reading the previous journal entries we discovered that what we were smelling was burning mouse urine and feces. Gross!! I think the oven should just be removed or at least sealed shut. Mice ran all around the cabin all night as well. After inhaling burnt mouse droppings all night we were concerned we might get sick, but thankfully didn't. If the mouse problem wasn't a thing, this place would be great, but that ruined it for me and I will not be back unfortunately.

The downed trees made the route from the Sno-park impassable, and the snow was deep at the time. We ended up parking off of Hwy 126 since we didn't bring a chainsaw. The place took a few hours to warm up, but once it did, it was cozy. Stove worked great. Outhouse seemed far in the deep snow, but in great condition. Place was very clean and nice. No signs of mice. Definitely will return when the weather conditions are better or the trees are cleaned up.

Lots of critter activity and mouse traps around the cabin. Heard larger critters in the attic too at night. Cabin stayed nice and warm. We could turn 1 light on for a max of 30 minutes. Use sparingly and don't count on it. Area was clean and quiet. Outhouse was pretty nice, there was lots of TP there even though we brought our own. Kitchen didnt feel like it could be used because there was no running water and you had to dump water outside in a specific spot. I would have wanted to wash things before using because of the mice. Nice rustic stay, bring what you need. The propane stove was nice to heat food on with our own supplies.

The cabin was spotless and well-organized. Plates, bowls, pots, pans, cutlery, paper towels, dish soap, sponge, lantern. Everything was well thought out for a comfortable stay (I added a whole bunch of pictures on Google Maps for reference).Don't forget to bring water for cooking and dishes, and dry wood if you want to build a fire outside in the wintertime!I was surprised to see there was potential access to electricity (outlets were available), though there had been no sun, so the lights could not be turned on. But I managed to plug a USB string light into the inverter. It made for a very cozy holiday vibe.The stove was very easy to turn on and worked perfectly well and we went from 44F to 60F in the morning.A great addition to my packing list was a pair of house slippers for extra coziness and minimal sweeping time at checkout.

Country to earlier reviews we had no real rodent problems in. Hall House; sure there were a few signs but nothing significant. However, there were a few other items that, once resolved, would make a stay more enjoyable. Most notably, though there is and outside and inside entry door neither one wants to stay closed and the exterior door is notoriously hard to open. The fireplace propane heater is extremely inefficient, puts out very little heat and makes it impossible to get even one room reasonably warm. It would also be helpful if there was a shovel and axe available. A bucket for carrying dishwater to the outhouse for disposal would also be helpful. We brought in additional lanterns to supplement the solar lights; very helpful.

Great little cabin! The Commissary was nicely outfitted but we also shared it with a bunch of mice. The solar lighting worked really well and the propane fireplace kept us comfy. Would be nice to have a front porch to enjoy the view!

I've been here a couple time before. To my surprise when I arrived, somebody had busted the box that held the key. I called the Ranger station. The nice young lady was there in about 30 minutes but she had forgot the key. I'm glad this trip I didn't arrive after dark like I did in the past. This cabin is large and the fire is neat but it doesn't heat as well as the small cabin. There was a wheel barrow in the day use area that was nice to haul gear. I don't know if I would have found it if there was snow.

The Hall House was larger and warmer than we anticipated! Amazing location! There was mouse scat, but we didn't actually see any mice ... and something larger than a mouse scurries around in the attic at night. Oh well! There are plenty of pots, pans, dishware and utensils, so no need to bring your own. One thing I wish was different though... I am not a fan of crossing a highway to get to the trail from Lava Lake Sno-Park. Think ice, snow, embankment, cars and trucks... crossing with kids... yikes. I wonder why the Forest Service doesn't just allow permitted parking overnight in the day use area off of Highway 126, the other route has some serious safety issues in winter. That aside, the cabin was really neat, comfortable, with an amazing view from the amazing deck. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful area, mouse infested cabin though. We’ve stayed at several lookout towers and never had this problem. We got there late, so there was no turning back that night. It was so bad we made a fire outside in the fire pit and sat in the rain because that was more enjoyable than being in the health hazard of a cabin. The fireplace inside the cabin is GAS, again, we have never had that. It took forever to warm up the place, and it stunk like mouse urine so badly, that it was hard to even be in it. Did not sleep well due to the mouse nest inside the box spring mattress. Heard mice at night, never did see one thankfully. But droppings covering the entire kitchen area and stove kept us from being able to really use the cabin. We would have been better off pitching a tent by the fire. Had to leave as soon as we got up the next morning. Could not stay our second night.
