Beautiful location, clean toilets. We enjoyed biking on the trail around the bay, and wish we would have booked an additional night!

Came out to see a concert at the Dillingham for theater. Stayed in campsite 50 and couldnt say enough good things about it.I didnt realize that it was a double sight so I did have two bare boxes and two camp pads. Since I was, my Wi-Fi appreciated the extra privacy. Water is a bit easier to access from campsite 51 but that is really splitting hair. Would absolutely come back to this campground.

This is a great campsite if you want close proximity to Lake Dillon, Frisco and Breckenridge. Really liked the paved roads and pad for our pop up camper. It made it less dusty and dirty overall. One thing that no one mentions in their reviews is that this site ( and 3-4 others) butts up right against the road where cars enter the campsite AND up against Dillon Damn Rd AND I70. It is noisy and you will always hear cars. I had to put on a sound machine on my phone to drown out the noise while we slept. So if you are wanting quiet this is not the campground for you. There are several loops in this campground and you can hear road noise from all. We had no interaction with the camp host who was 2 sites down. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and didn't smell terrible at all.

I lived my stay at Heaton Bay!! My site was private, I woke to the lovely lake just behind my van and it was an easy in/easy out. Convenient to fuel, restaurants, groceries and yet felt remote and in the wilderness. Perfect!!! Will be back!

This is the place for a great camping vacation, take extra blankets it was the end of august and it got to 42 degrees at night. Loved the fact that we had the lake as our backyard

Site was close to water for easy kayak drop off. Beautiful lake for kayaking with lots of places to explore. Biking around the rez was right outside the campground. Perfect location for hiking as well.

Site B21 is very nice, with trees on both sides so neighbors don't seem so close. It is a short walk to the reservoir for kayaks and paddle boards, with great views of the mountains to the east. The bike trail is nearby with access to Frisco and Dillon. The bathrooms are across the road but had no odor. However, one of the two toilets was locked which meant a waiting line in the morning hours. Not sure why the one was locked. Never able to ask the campground host because we were gone most of the time. Otherwise, all was quiet except for the traffic on I-70, a given at Heaton Bay campground.

We stayed at the campground for 2 nights and had a great time! The campsite was clean and very spacious. It was nice to have the bear box on site too. We got up for sunrise both mornings and the lake was really beautiful. We hope to come back sometime!

Clean camp site, nice fire pit and right by the water. Fun times had. Thank you!

Pros: What a great area. Weather is nice and cool. Bike paths. Central location. A fantastic place to be.Cons: Seems to me that these sites are getting no maintenance. Sites are old, benches not in good shape, not very level. And this year no water fill up within miles of the campground. It is going downhill pretty fast, Primitive camping is now very primitive. stayed 2 different times in 2024 in loop B
@RandyB4734083 · Camped on Aug 5, 2024 at Campsite #E68
The asphalt on some of the pads needs improvement's.Some spots need updating as most campers have the door on the passenger side and some spots just dont support that very well. ( failing surface to 1-2 drop)No water to fill your tanks, no dump stations.( so there is a water and dump facility but it serves 5 campgrounds and is 15+ min away) so waiting is mandatory

We stayed at site 7 in a tent and it was ok. It felt secluded, which was nice and an easy, quick walk to the vault toilet. However, there was not much shade and the mosquitoes were pretty bad. The only way to access the water is through campsite 1 or 2! Make sure to bring a shade tent (or two!) and insect repellent!

Mosquitos here are abundant near the lake. Made it hard to enjoy anything outside at the campground. Lots of people using generators.

We love Heaton Bay. This year the wildflowers were spectacular. Kayaking was perfect, days on the lake were idyllic. Heaton Bay is my happy place.

The campground itself is nice, good views and great lake access. Close to town. Facilities were clean. The campground managers weren't keeping up with posting which sites were reserved and which were open though. We arrived one night and someone was camping at our site because they'd been told it was available, despite the reservation we'd had for months through recreation.gov. We were able to sort it out between ourselves but that kind of situation could have been easily avoided had the campground manager paid more attention.

Double wide site, so easy for 2 vehicles to park there. Unfortunately day trippers thought it was a good place to park too! Site offered no view and no afternoon sun. Very nice to have bear boxes at all the sites.

Beautiful spot with Great Lake access. A bit noisy due to freeway but gorgeous site and friendly camp hosts.

Great location near a nice bike trail. Clean, quiet and our site was fairly private.
@KarleeJB57BDD3 · Camped on Jul 12, 2024 at Campsite #D50
This is one of the most private camp sites we have ever stayed at. Lots of shade except by the picnic table. The water is close enough to walk to but far enough where mosquitoes are not much of a problem. Plenty of spots for multiple tents and a bear box close by. The bathroom and parking is further away but it is worth it for the amount of privacy.
@JodyR3849821 · Camped on Jul 8, 2024 at Campsite #C31
This place was an absolute gem! Especially when temps are in the 90s down below. We just stayed for a night on our way across the mountains but wish we could have stayed longer. No such luck as this place is booked up well in advance. Loved the bike trail and the views are incredible!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
