The park was very nice. We arrived Saturday evening and had issues with the 50amp breaker getting hot and tripping several times. Told Elvin the camp host. We told him we could make do for the night with one AC. Maintenance was there first thing Sunday morning and changed the breaker. No more issues after that. Friendly staff working there. We enjoyed our stay and we will be back.

the second day visiting that morning we experienced chigger bites on ankles and legs. the itching only became worst , since we had"nt brought any itch cream with us. we stayed at site #18 next to some wooded area. Its been over seven days and the bites are still red noticable areas . I am pretty sure we wont be camping at Sandy Creek anymore. There is a good report though, It is very quiet and peaceful at night.. The Park Host was very profession and polite..

Sandy Creek is one of those hidden gems, it really is a nice campsite, its quiet, pretty sunsets, multiple boat ramps, and decent size campsites. Ill definitely go back. BEWARE- There are alligators in the water there, making swimming not so appealing.

Place has changed, hate to see it we're been going for years. Always a 5 Star review before????

We arrived at our spot, it was clean and nice. The only thing we had an issue with is that they where removing trees all day and early in the mornings. We wanted a get away of peace and quite but we didn't receive that. Also, there was one camp sight that had about 6 cars and they all started parking at the bathroom/showers. We had no where to park when we went to shower. We never seen a park ranger come through at all, or I would have told them this situation. We will be back, because we love the location.

We initially reserved a one night stay but found the campground to be extraordinarily beautiful and extended our stay to 4 nights. We were in site 23 which had a gorgeous view of the lake and the sites near by did as well. The campsites are well maintained with full hookup, covered picnic table area, firepit and nice breeze. Oh and the occasional passing turtle and alligator. We hope to stay again.

Campsite worked out fine. We were traveling by motorcycle so only had small tent and didnt need much room, or much electricity.

We enjoyed our stay at Sandy Creek Campground. The park is clean, sites are spacious and the park host was very friendly. We will be visiting again for sure.

We reserved our favorite spot and had to cancel due to weather and other unavoidable circumstances. We reserved again and did receive our refund on the first time, which was great. Our trip was mostly enjoyable and the weather was good, we love the still natural beauty that still exists in this SE TEXAS park. My complaint is that the "attendants" weren't friendly and there was so much work that could be done with equipment/materials already on site but all is at a standstill and not being used. I do know the history of this park and there have been issues for many years, ONE being the "Hydrilla" plant in the lake. I ASKED the attendant if he could clean the fishing pier by us since the flood had settled massive amounts of the plant on the pier and especially, there was a foot at the entrance. I already saw snakes in the area and would not venture over the plant to the pier. Never happened !!! He only brought a blower and cleared the pier, putting the plant back into the water. My husband brought our small "potato fork" from home and I took 15-30 minutes to clear the ENTRANCE to the pier putting the plant to each side of the walkway. Also I parked my vehicle beside our truck and there's a good size washout hole that has been there for some time. I brought/used our hoe and square-lipped shovel from home, to get some rock across the driveway to put in that hole. I have been co-owner in a construction business and could have repaired all of the things needing repaired in a couple of days if I had that job !!! It's not hard to do. I also ... always pick up trash and garbage at any site where we camp, leaving it cleaner than found - ALWAYS ! There are many other questions I have that I will ask when I go to the COE office here locally. Recreation.gov however did it's job on the reservation end and processing end. Thanks !

Very good park. Very friendly camp host. Site was easy to back into. Very clean. But the bugs was horrible. No matter what we did or used they were still there and bitting.

The bathrooms down on the loop were absolutely disgusting vs the parks bathrooms closer to the entrance. The facilities hardware in the showers need to be updated as they do not work properly. Very disappointed in our stay.

Beautiful park and had a nice site in the tall pines with the lake right behind us. Very few 50 amp sites for big rigs and park says you cannot use an adapter for 30 amp sites. We had a close neighbor that played very loud music and partied until 11:30. We mentioned it to one of the staff, and someone else had already turned them in so the next night all was quiet by 10. No one was ever at the gatehouse, and no one monitored who came and went, we wouldve liked to have had a map, but no maps were available in the map box. Very nice place to ride bikes , if you could put up with the thousands of gnats. Water was shut off one morning with no notice but it was fixed within a couple of hours. We had to call the COE office to find out that it was being worked on. It wouldve been nice to have the host come around on their gators and let people know. Weve been at campgrounds before where the host comes through and even warns you when theres severe weather coming, which is very nice!

We loved our stay! Sites are huge and we had a beautiful view of the lake. Backing up the trailer is easy and the parking pads are large and level. We enjoyed the trail that will connect you with Martin Dies Jr. campground and further trails, if desired. Their is a great butcher in Jasper, Jasper Quality Meats Inc. - not the one of the same name that includes a smokehouse, very friendly staff and great steaks. We also enjoyed the vibe and food at Texas Wine Shop and Bistro. Most of their wines are on the sweet side but we managed to find one that was a little more dry, and more to our tastes. The pizza flatbreads are very good.

There are four camping areas (one is tent only - no elec/water), almost all sites are on water. Sites are level and very spacious. The park is quiet and beautiful, with lots of hiking/biking trails as it connects to Martin Dies Jr State Park on its northern border. There are three bath houses with flush toilet, running water and showers. They are clean but dated (metal toilets with no seats, push button showers). Some sites can have a long walk to the bathroom, so check that out before reserving. The lake is beautiful and lots of fishing. There are 3 boat launches and a a canoe launch. The dump station was being upgraded on our visit.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
