Mccown Valley Campground in Hill county is located 55 min northwest of Waco, TX with an elevation of 604 feet. There are a total of 106 campsites. The campground is open all year. 47 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 40 and 50 feet. All sites are currently reservable. 87 sites have electric and water hookups. 6 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $12.00 to $45.00.

Our stay at McCown Valley was so enjoyable! The hosts, Betty, hubby and Fido were so attentive and friendly! The campground was very well maintained! We had a site that was a bit unlevel, but Betty allowed us to change it immediately. The next site was just beautiful! We'll surely look forward to going back again! Had quite a few laughs and talks w/Betty! Will miss you! Your friends, Aj and Carol from Bawston (aka) Boston!

Rented the group pavilion for a youth group outing. Before the trip I had questions and tried to reach out to the park, this was a little more difficult than what I would have preferred as no one would answer the phone. However, after leaving a message and waiting a couple of days a very nice park ranger called me back and answered all my questions. Once we got to the park, I was more than pleased with the cleanliness of the grounds and the park employee that checked on us. Will definitely be booking this site again next year!

The main issue with McCown Valley park is that they don't have a gate code like other COE parks. A registered family member had to arrive late and couldn't get in which resulted in paying for a hotel stay. Also, the gate remained wide open all day which allowed non-campers to roam through the park. There were some unsavory characters that repeatedly cruised through the park every day that we were there which posed a safety issue. I understand that when you're short-staffed you can't tie someone up with gate-keeping all day--but a gate code, issued to campers on the confirmation email, would solve all these problems. I strongly suggest that you look into that. Because of this shortcoming, we probably won't be back.

The whole point to coming down and camping was so that we could take our boat out and go fishing. The boat ramp was closed due to excessive rain, but we were not informed of this. So we showed up to our camping spot. We set up our camping spot and then I walked down to the boat ramp to find that it was closed and not accessible. So we loaded our boat back up onto the back of the truck and we loaded our camper back up and we headed back home, so we were not even there for an hour and yet we still paid for it. We were very unhappy with our attempted stay. As we were not informed of the current conditions of the park

Everything was fine but the grass was high. We were in the horse part /overflow so I get its not used that much but we wouldnt sit around the fire pit with the high grass, we had seen two 4-5 snakes on the road so it was a no go!

The park was really nice and quiet. The lakes high water level had plenty of sites blocked off, but that made for many nice walks and bike rides having less distraction. This was a very peaceful place to camp. We were in site 19 and we sat and watched plenty of deer eating in the meadow across from our site while sitting by the fire.

Park is nice. Great for a small rig. If you have a big rig, beware of low hanging limbs and tight sites and turns, especially on the east side of the park. Or just go to Whitney SP instead.

Arrived later than expected but they opened the gate for us and let us in. Exactly as pictured. We set up for the night attaching water and electric quickly and easily. Eclipse could not have been better and we had very few people around us. Perfection. We walked the lake, made a fire, got rained on, cooked marshmallows, had a blast. Public toilets/showers were stocked and had hot water. Packed up and left in the morning. Could not be more pleased. Beautiful lake and lovely people everywhere. Next time we are coming with a boat.

Beautiful setting , great value, and friendly staff. I would not hesitate to stay here again.The facilities could use some maintenance though. Showers and restrooms needed repairs.

My wife and I go camping at McCown Valley very often. The campgrounds are always clean and the other campers are well behaved and very respectful of all campers. The roads are in excellent shape and the access to the lake are very good. It has one of the busiest and best boat ramps on the lake. The gate attendants are always very cheerful.

We love lake Whitney. We love McCowen Valley but this time the restrooms were filthy. So bad people wouldnt go in them. They finally cleaned them a little after we were there 4 days. But they were still not cleaned well. It was terrible.
