Great spot that feels semi hidden. The only neighbor I could see was across from me. I could slightly see the site to my left but the trees mostly blocked them. The site is mostly shaded with just enough of ann opening to see the stars at night. Great to have a bear locker for extra safety measures. Check in was a breeze and I loved chatting with the park rangers. The Traces Trail around the campground is a nice and easy hike.

The campground was east to find and so very clean. There was a good amount of people, but it wasnt loud and everybody was very respectful.

The facilities were clean and the camp host was friendly and helpful. The limited nearby easy trails was a disappointment, but overall, it was a good experience.Dining at the lodge was expensive and the food quality was poor.

Quiet and nice campground. Lovely place to start a trip south on Skyline!

Good camping spot - very busy, but it still had the seclusion I was looking for.

Campground was very nice. Some of the spots are very small and open. Staff helped us move spots with no issue.

The rangers at the check-in station were extremely helpful in getting me to my site quickly and recommending some nearby hikes based on the time of day. The site was easy to access and had adequate space and lots of bathrooms and water close by. Great stay!

Great camping over weekend, campground surprisingly not full on Friday night, very full on Saturday night. Lots of good hiking in the area. Our site was not close to level so we had to move to another site. Fortunately the rangers were very helpful to make this happen.

Well maintained campground. Site was very close to neighboring sites with no privacy between. Would choose a different campsite in this campground in the future.

Shenandoah has beautiful campgrounds and this one is no exception. When they get fully booked, they are packed though, something to keep in mind nowadays. Not finding solitude even if the weather is terrible. This was the best stay out of the past 4 for noise, so at least that was reasonable and folks minded the quiet hours.
@MuhammadACFCDB · Camped on Aug 2, 2024 at Campsite #A42
It was a great experience at the campground. There are little trails around the campground where you can go in the evening/morning.

Bring ear plugs for the noisy crowds who dont abide quiet hours.

I was there mid July. Very much cooler than in the lower lands. Plenty of wildlife, and lush green forest.

The tent site was separated and accessing that was inconvenient for some of my friends.

Great campground! It was my first time staying here, and I loved the fact that the sites are more primitive and private than some of the other campgrounds in the park. I really enjoyed the Overall Run Falls hike that stems off of Matthews Arm as well. Definitely recommend this campground.

We went to Big Meadows this time, as Mathew Arm was closed for the weekend for maintenance,We enjoyed lots - thank you for the service!!

Nice enough campground although spaces are close together. We were in space A02 which is one of the four-day release spots, and the advantage is that it's the first spot in the park and, therefore, has no sight lines with any other campers on the passenger side of your vehicle. The low rating is due to the rangers' unwillingness to set reasonable ground rules. The camper across from us decided to show a Disney movie on a large screen (10 ft across) with speakers to their five kids. It was ridiculous. If you don't want to take your kids camping, don't take your kids camping. Ranger had zero interest in it.

Great campground with lots of shade trees. Good sites with plenty of space. Store 2 miles away for supplies and firewood. Convenient Trail around the campground, so you can get a little walk in the woods without a drive.

The campsites were great and I loved the trails nearby. The bathrooms were fairly clean and it was nice to have running water. They never had soap though and the toilet paper ran out. There were also some groups that didnt observe quiet hours. Overall pretty good experience though.

I stayed at the following:A042 Generator Prohibited, A - 14 Day Advance PurchaseMATHEWS ARM CAMPGROUNDShenandoah National ParkThe spot easily fit my 23.5' Thor Compass with slide. It was a pull through and the blacktop was level. The only negative is that they do not allow a generator on this spot (which I knew a head of time). It is the first spot in a section that does not allow generators as all the spots next to it on one side to allow it.

Clean and Peaceful.
@KrisG2032270 · Camped on Oct 27, 2023 at Campsite #A34
Clean and convenient. This site was near the generator-free area which allowed for a nice, quiet morning. The only flat spot at my campsite that I found to put my tent was on the gravel pad in front of the fire pit. Would have liked to have a flat spot on the grass and more room in front of the fire ring and picnic table.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
