Charles was a great camp host! It was great to be back after a few years. A bit of a rocky start with getting into our reserved campground but Charles helped us get everything squared away!

A little off the beaten path, but very nice campground. Camp host was a great guy.

Very difficult campground to get to. We ended up on a very rough 8 mile path of unpaved road which needed a vehicle with quite a bit of clearance to drive over many of the boulders. We never made it to our campsite as the read in was too rough for our Minivan. Dont attempt this campsite unless you have a raised 4x4 and no trailers. You will not reach it otherwise.

Okay.. normally dont leave reviews on campgrounds but this one is necessary for other campers!!Very secluded.!!!Be prepared for a harsh way to get there. Maybe I didnt do my research too well on a map but other reviews and the internet made it seem like the lake was near by and the big trees if you want to sight see. But it was an hour and 15 min to arrive to anything like that. Not recommended for long stays unless youre okay with super secluded.

Charles kept the restrooms clean and well stocked with TP!

The campsites are very nice. Most of the roads were paved and in pretty good condition. However for the final 20 minute drive to the campsite, the roads became unpaved and were pretty bumpy and potholes. I would still recommend this as a campsite. The only thing I didn't like about the site was how far it was from everything. It was about an hour drive to get to anywhere from the park here.

5 star experience for those who look for wilderness with a toilet and running water!! We came from the south, heading northeast on CA-198 E. We took the CA-216 W to Dry Creek Dr. and stayed on that to Eshom Valley Dr. This was a long, narrow, windy road. Then Wortman Mills Rd to the campground entrance. Middle of nowhere before the Kings Canyon entrance. It was so quiet, and if you didn't breathe too loud, you could hear the creek from our campsite. Isolated dark skies and a million stars! The creek was within walking distance of almost all the sites. There is a large meadow at the end of the campground that was lush in August. There are bear boxes, fire rings, and tables on each site. The bathroom was clean and the spigot was close. We collected loose wood at the entrance for fire wood a couple nights. A great tranquil campground! I highly recommend visiting if you have time to commute to and from the park entrance. It's as close as you can be to the park without being in with the crowds. It took about 45 minutes on forest roads to get to the park entrance. Wortman Mills Rd turns left and becomes Forest Rte 14S75. Then a couple miles on 14S43 and 14S45, which ends at the General's Highway 180. The forest service roads are mostly compacted and smooth, with breathtaking vistas, but a few deeply rutted areas made me glad we brought my husband's Chevy Silverado and not my Subaru Forrester.

Hidden Gem. So I used Apple Maps to find location and it worked just fine without us getting loss. When you start heading down there are signs as well for the camp so you can choose to follow them or GPS. Road goes down to pretty much 1 lane and average speed is 25-30mph - not a lot of vehicle traffic but be mindful when driving! Some past reviews talked about road/ground conditions being poor but other then the very initial entry into the campground it was fine. We stayed on Lot 19 and it was great. There was a shallow creek right next to campground so kids can play as adults set up with no fear. Lot 19 easily fit 2 minivans and a huge lifted truck, and two very large tents. Camp host was right next door and came by to give us a welcome, explain the area, and give us vehicle tags. He was very relaxed about us having the extra truck and technically we were 3 people over but they were 3 toddlers so do they even really count? Haha.The campground was very empty when we went so it was great, no loud parties of people and we were able to relax at night around campfire with smores. Two bathrooms on site. The one by our lot was a single toilet which smelt really bad but was clean enough. There were 2 toliets in the one by the single lots on the other side (still walkable for us) that smelt a lot better. Water valves at both toilet areas. 3 large black bulls roamed freely on campgrounds at all hours but if you dont bother them then they wont bother you.Lastly, if you plan on going to the National park usually you can take 245 from park up to 180 and get there in 75minutes but sit to the 245 being closed at the top it was impossible. No worries! Just travel 245 NB to Todd Eyman Rd that connects to Millwood road and then onto the 180. Its maybe an extra 15 minutes but very doable. If my minivan can make it you can too!

Important to understand that access to Eshom Campground is via a 45 minute rugged forest road that doesn't seem suitable for low clearance cars. The remoteness adds a lot of driving time in and out. At the time we were at the campground there were prescribed fires in the immediate vicinity. While we appreciate the Forest Service's tireless work - had we known the situation, we would not have come due to the thick smoke.

We loved the beauty and serenity of this campsite. Would not recommend if you dont have a 4x4 and plan to drive into Sequoia National Park. To get there, you need to take a Forestry Service road that is unpaved and rough for about 45 mins. Campsite now has bear box(es).

I went here as a kid and this was my 1st time back with my 3 kids (12, 10, 8) We stayed at spot 13 and loved the privacy and creek access. It's right next to the meadow so an occasional cow may wander to your camp. Charles the host was a nice guy with wood for sale too! We hiked to bethany pools and got lost a bit but found our way by using our ears lol. It's at the end of the meadow off to the right. Controlled burns were happening all around and got a bit smokey at night but not too bad. We also found wild strawberries right by the campsites and per my oldest "tasted like candy." Plenty of dry wood on the ground so bring an axe. The water closer to the bathroom doesn't taste as much like pipes as some of the others.

Site 15 and 14 share a driveway. Its not well marked but something to keep in mind when reserving 15 or 14. The campsites in this loop are super close to each other as well. If you want privacy look for 16 or 13. Host was great and the area is remote and quiet. There was very few people in camp most likely due to the burn. Only issue was a control burn going on in and around the campground. 3 days of smoke and trees falling. Be prepared to drive for at least 2 hours to get into either of the parks. 245 was closed when we were there and it made the drive even longer. Overall, good campground with clean facilities. Just wish the burn was done earlier in the spring.

First, we stopped at the nearest Ranger Station to Eshom CG because there was confusion between recreation.gov and USFS website whether the CG had in fact opened for the year. We were told by the Ranger that the CG WAS NOT open and would be opening the NEXT day. There was no mention that the USFS was conducting a prescribed burn in the area. We got to Eshom CG and the USFS was conducting a prescribed burn in Sequoia NF which included active burns in Eshom Campground. Our site alone had 3 active burns, plus what was occurring in the other campsites, the communal areas of the campground, and the surrounding forest. Needless to say, we did not stay the first night which left us scrambling for a campsite and managed to reserve the LAST campsite in the area. The 3 active burns at our site were out and we decided to stay the night even though there were still some active burns and the air was very heavy with smoke (we spoke with a Supervisor who was driving though monitoring the burn and he said it was safe to camp) and we were forced to stay because there were no other available campsites in the area. The car was covered in soot the next morning and we had to stop at a car wash in Visalia to clean the car. Everything smelled like the inside of a BBQ pit ad there was a fine layer of ashed inside the car. Our campsite was right beside a creek and large. I was surprised that the campgrounds had trash about considering the CG opened late 'to clean up from winter storms'...I'm giving Eshom two stars instead of only one star because our CG Host was super nice.

Beautiful place, first time there, but not well managed. We arrived on a Sunday to find the plastic, non-bear proof garbage cans overflowing with garbage at both locations in the campground. Animals had already begun to spread it around and on the last morning a bear rummaged through it. There was no camp host. The only other campers in the campground were adjacent to us and played nightclub music after dark. We were able to relocate to the other end of the campground. Water spigot only worked at the first location. Bathrooms were a mess and ran out of TP. The drain at the water spigot needs more drain rock to prevent a lake, and even then it flows down the concrete apron and road. One of the culverts under the road is blocked by logs and rootballs and will wash out the road if not cleared. Cattle were in the camp. The garbage had not been picked up as of our departure on Tuesday. Forest Service staff showed up Tuesday morning for other reasons and photographed the garbage to send it up the chain, explaining there is a new concessionaire. Note to campers: If the garbage cans are full, don't pile it higher - pack it out! Note to Forest Service: Are you not obligated to provide bear-proof garbage cans? Bear boxes? Beautiful place, though.

First time we were here and we love it. If you're looking for a place where everything is very quiet, this is the perfect spot. Make sure you packed all you need because there is nothing near the campground unless you want to drive about 45 min to the nearest town. Also, we were reading some reviews about an off roading path that leads to the campground and we didn't take it, there is another route and any vehicle that is not lowered will make it. It's a beautiful spot to stay couple nights. We didn't saw or hear any bears which was good, but try to keep your food in the car. Also, campgrounds spots 2-5 need maintenance due to a lot of grass and leaves covered fire pit and table; and the open spaces for tents are not that good. The best places aee #13, #10, #12, and #7 to my opinion. We stayed on #7. These are the single sites; there are double sites which are enormous and clean with Brad new fire pits.

You need bear boxes and near campgrounds 3-6, there was trash strewn all over. Saw someone from the waste management contractor drive by, but the mess wasn't cleaned up. Come on. It was gross.

The new company that was supposed to maintain Eshom Campground failed in all categories for my stay at the campground! Here is my list of the failures....1. No host present the entire time 2. No toilet paper provided in any of the restrooms 3. Drinking water was only available in one of the three loops 4. Trash cans overflowed with trash. 5. Restrooms were never cleaned through my entire stay 6. Campsites were not raked and field grass a foot tall covered every campsite right up to the fire rings. Eshom Campground used to be one of the most beautiful and well maintained campgrounds in all of Sequoia National Forest and Kings Canyon National Park. I saw a lot of people leave early. I do not blame them!

Our campsite was good but the camp host didn't seem to be around at all. By 9am on Sunday morning all the toilet paper was gone. We walked around and never could find him or her. There was no sign of anyone at the host site.

Campground is well maintained and really beautiful. There is a really pretty meadow and big trees all around. Water pump/bathrooms clean and close. We would stay here again but we usually prefer more secluded sites. I docked a star because of the trash situation. They were regular bins, and were a mess this includes campers putting large boxes in them so there was no room for trash, then people leaving their trash outside is the bin. Obviously animals got to it, making more of a mess. Anyway we had some great neighbors and a beautiful little spot by the meadow.

Pleasantly surprised for sure! This was a last-minute booking and pretty much just took what was available. We had never been here before so we were a little concerned. It is quite a long drive up from the highway (about 1 1/2 hours towing our travel trailer) on a narrow road. Our space (#10) was huge with plenty of space to back in our trailer. The only con with experienced was the bugs! We used "Off" but that didn't work. Flies, bees, and mosquitos! Bring Citronella candles (I forgot mine) and plenty of strong bug spray. Other that that, our site was absolutely beautiful and perfect. We never saw a camp host but somehow the trash and bathrooms were tended to. If you come out of the campground and turn right, it will put you on a fire road that leads your straight to the highway to King's Canyon. (about 45 minutes) The road is bumpy and unpaved so would not recommend low profile vehicles. This campground is tucked away deep in the forest with not much to do around. We saw dirt bikers, mountain bikers, and shooters. We loved our weekend here and would love to go back!

The bathrooms have to be cleaned they stink terrible. The campsite should have one square of concrete 12x12 " or bigger to put our table food etc , we need water to take showers because eshom doesn't have a good river. It ok for camping only but you have to stay on site because to go see the main park it is too far so think twice get as much information as needed because there is no phone service regardless of your provider.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
