If you are tent camping I recommend avoiding site 5 as it is extremely small. All the other sites have plenty of space but this one for whatever reason is super small. The table is on a hillslope and surrounded by shrubs. If you are just in an RV it's probably fine. Also the campground map is wrong on the website. The actual campsites are about 1000 ft northeast of where they are located on the map. It's a single road heading straight north with only a small loop at the end. Check google earth to see the actual location.

The place is very nice, but the Lower Penstemon sign was down on the Canyon Rd. so beware. It made finding the place a bit tricky for new to the area camper friends.

The campground itself was great. The vault toilets were terrible. They were filthy. The floors were carpeted with dead flies. The camp host from porcupine springs kindly came and cleaned them a couple of days into our stay. It was not her job, but whomever job it was had failed to do it. Other than that, good place to camp.

It was really hard to find. The lower campground is not labeled and near impossible to find. There was no working water. The bathrooms were quite impossible to go in because of the amount of flies and smell. Once we were settled into our campsite, it was amazing. But the process to get there is somewhat difficult. It is an hour off the highway, and you will have no service.

The campground was dirty when we got there. We had to brush off the table and pick up garbage left by past campers. We left it a lot cleaner than we found it, other than that it was a fairly shady spot. It would have been nice if there was more signage, to where the trails were located.

Camping is located at side of very transit road. No water at camping. Not very good place to spend the night.

No fresh water was available at either Lower or Upper Penstemon. Had to drive several miles up the canyon to Diamondfield Jack to get water. The picnic table at my site was very dirty. There was litter in the site. Some can only be blamed on the previous campers but there is no excuse for the lack of water.

Right off the road, which was surprisingly busy for being way off major highways. Most of the campsites were reserved but only 2 (including mine) were actually occupied. My campsite had limited parking and no flat spot for my small 2 person tent.

This site is not maintained at all. The pit vaults could be smelled several feet away from them and looked like they hadn’t been touched in weeks. There is no water though there are pumps. We ended up leaving as sleeping in a site where you can smell fecal matter coming from the pit vaults was beyond disgusting.

We were glad we brought toilet paper because there wasn’t much when we got there. Also on one of the outhouses had a broken handle. We were surprised to see so many moose… it was awesome. We kept our distance of course. Not much shade in some of the campsites , so bring your own.

I booked sites 2 and 6 for a group of people. We all ended up staying at site 2, as there was more flat area for tents and more open space overall. All sites are very close to bathrooms. It is about 40 minutes away from cell service, which was nice! Quiet, peaceful campground.

A small loop campground, a fair distance from the "beaten track." Forest Route 500 continuing on to Oakley is about 25 miles on a dusty gravel road (in case you don't want to go back out the way you drove in). There is a trail along the crest of the ridge above the campground--just go up the steep hill maybe 100 yards. Watch deer grazing on the opposite side of the valley.

Visited from southern California and was very surprised at how beautiful Idaho is and this campground was amazing! Would definitely visit here again. Beautiful scenery and very off grid

This camp site is nonexistent. The owners of the Ski Lodge have dismantled it and have the fire ring leaning against their building. There is no table, or any other semblance of a campsite there. Choose a different spot.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
