This was our first time camping with our horses. So I wanted to share a few tips/info if this is your first time.*We took 2 full sized horses + 2 minis and our 3 young kids.1. Spigots are not threaded for hoses so bring water buckets that you can carry. The walk isnt bad but it is a walk. 2. We tent camped at sites 4 and 5. Site 4 was more shaded than Site 5. Sites 1,2,3 are more treed. 3. You have to pack out manure. So be sure to bring a pick and enough manure buckets.4. There is a vault toilet. It was clean and well kept. 5. If you forget firewood the camp host had some available for $10. It was cash only. (The camp host was very friendly and kind)6. The trails are a bit rocky and pretty narrow. There are a lot of down and up hill spots. I have an older gelding that struggled a bit on the trails, something to keep in mind if you have a horse with maintenance. 7. Each site has 2 corrals that are 12x12 priefert panels. We brought 4 horses so I did book an extra site for 2 of our horses to stay on. 8. We didnt see any bears but its the mountains, so be prepared to. Hope this helped! We will be going back again :)

Nice pipe corral for my horse. Had a bear raid the dumpster and a belligerent moose on the Indian Creek Trail.

The host, Matt, was the nicest of all the employees Ive encountered at campgrounds with corrals in Colorado listed on recreation.gov. Indian Springs Campground also has a day use parking lot thats used a lot and a human campground in a different area. The road around the equestrian area needs to be leveled and repaired! Major ruts along the sides made back-in parking impossible. Of the 9 nights I stayed, there was only one party without a horse. I was alone except on Memorial Day Weekend. The dumpsters in the entire campground not been emptied in weeks. Pit toilet, campfire pit/grill and table at each site, but only 2 water spigots that you cant attach a hose to! Hauling buckets uphill through deep grass was tough on my 63 yo body despite being parked the closest to the water! The Indian Creek Trail (from near the day-use parking area) was beautiful with some climbing; continued on The Ringtail Trail but it hadnt been cleared completely yet. The Indian Creek Trail (starting at the horse camp) goes up and down, along a creek, and is VERY pretty. There are definitely water crossings. One has a bridge if your horse goes over them, but you can go through the water. The last week of May, volunteers still hadnt made it around the whole (22 mile) loop and we had to turn back. Its 20 minutes to Sedalia (gas station and biker bar with good appetizers), and longer to a supermarket.

Always enjoy camping at Indian Creek. Wish the Forest service would put up information on Leave No Trace. We were in campsite 1. And someone before us left egg shells and bones in fire scar. Also they peed and pooped in meadow. Was disgusting. We cleaned it up. People need to clean area before they leave. Wondered why camp host had not checked area before our arrival.

Nice camp, great horse trails, corrals are a bit tight and made of stock panels and functional. Site 4 hard to level. Water is good, spigots are not threaded for hoses. dumpster is provided and pit toilets were clean. Overall a very good experience, rain every day in June when there but it’s a really pretty camp.

The campsites for the trailers are not flat at all.

Beautiful campsite! I got sites 3 and 7 of the equestrian camping and it was amazing. The paddocks were nice for the horses, with some being in the shade and some being more open at site 7. Water was a bit of a walk, but nothing bad. We had a little run in when we were setting up camp, the people next to us had claimed we took their spot when we didn’t. So the only big thing was the reservation cards hadn’t been updated to us. We went on a few trails around, including the one leading right out of the campsite. One of the best trails I’ve been on! My only thing is this trail isn’t just for anyone wanting to ride. A lot of the trail is uphill and rocky, so having experience really helps! Gorgeous views at the top, water crossings, and lots of foliage made it an amazing time!

Our campground host was frindly and helpful. The campground was immaculate. The restrooms were clean and well maintained. We had reservations for the equestrian campground. My one complaint is that one of the horse camping sites was being used by campers with no horses. They had a small pack of annoying, yipping dogs. It would be nice if the equestrian campsites were reserved for horses only. It's difficult enough to find horse campgrounds without having regular campers take our spots.

Beautiful spot with great access to hiking trails. We saw a large black bear scampering through the woods and enjoyed a sky full of stars at night.

I love coming to this campground! It is always clean, and love having a pen that my escape artist horse can't escape. The trails are easy to access, and nice rides, lots of wildlife. Gets a little warm in the summer because of the lower altitude, but still one of our favorite sites!

Great place to bring your horse and ride. Trails are single track with great views. Camp host Lorenzo was friendly and helpful.

Never made it there, but we were able to find a place that better suited us on Rampart Range Road

Love the area. We had some rather inconsiderate noisy neighbors that did not abide by campground rules. Camp hostess tried repeatedly to work with them but they refused. Unfortunately, the unruly group seemed to know that the camp hostess had no power to make them comply.

We had a very good camping trip even though we didn't realize that it was an equestrian campground.

Unless you actually have a horse and an RV pass on this one. No real footprint for a tent, there was a bear in the dumpster on our last night and we were ridiculed for not having a horse with us even though we paid the reservation fee fair like everyone else. Also, there was no water here and there was not notice until we arrived to see it posted.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
