Warning: it is very windy! Otherwise, this was one of the nicest most gorgeous campgrounds I've ever stayed at. Flat, perfect view of the sky, and big generous lots at a fair and generous price. We came all the way from Canada and got engaged at Cape Point so this place means a lot to me... Maybe someone could reach out from the parks service if they know where I can get a magnet to commemorate this trip!

Great place to stay and close to the OSV access point to the point. Only improvement I would suggest is upgrading to hot showers. In the off season it's a bit chilly. Even if the nightly rate was increased it would be worth it. With the technology of on demand hot water heating systems this seems like a reasonable upgrade.

Love this campground. Easy access to the beach. A lot of chances for wildlife sightings. Biking distance to the lighthouse and restaurants.

The place is gorgeous! Very convenient to the beach and towns! We loved the 4 wheel beach access so close to our campsite. Unfortunately , the campground was very marshy and buggy. It hadnt been mowed for quite some time and the grass was knee high which Im sure contributed to the vast amounts of biting insects. We stayed for 9 nights and only saw a ranger or any type of workers on the last 2 days. They were edging the sites on area A and B, we were in K. Very large campground, but only 3 other sites occupied when we arrived, about a dozen more for Friday and Saturday, and then back to no one . I think its a great place that needs a lot of attention. We will be back nonetheless!

The first night was okay. The second night no one stayed at the campground. My site was completely flooded and no possibility of it being cleared. The website is horrible and not worth the camping fee to try to figure out how to get a refund. Please, do something creative and fix the web site and fix the campground. Ended up staying at a different campground the second night. NEVER AGAIN.

We absolutely loved this campground. We loved that it wasn't priced through the roof. Camping site was clean and well maintained. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing was so relaxing. The night sky was filled with stars. We can't wait to come back!

Large well tended campgrounds with nice clean bathrooms and showers. The sites are spacious and you may get to share them with geese, bunnies and deer. Convenient to beaches and surf. Staff are good people. Very close to the Hatteras lighthouse. This is the tallest on the East Coast of the US and has been within 2-3 years of reopening for at least 6 years. The work is now well underway and should be ready for people to climb within 2-3 years. There is an excellent museum. It is close to the East Coast's finest and most consistent surf break. Even if you do not surf you can see some of the worlds finest surfers in action. It is currently closed due to chemical leakage from leftover government sites dating back many years. Remedial work may begin as soon as the various federal departments can agree on else will pay for the work.

We went with a northeast wind, was perfect. The campsite was clean and there were plenty available to choose from. We stayed at A-4 and were able to walk to the beach at night with almost a full.moon to guide us. Place was basically empty ad it was so peaceful. We will be back.

Cape point had a bad reputationpark rangers cringed when we shared our plan to stay. However, we had a great time! If it hasnt rained in a while, the mosquitos were not any worse than other sites along the outer banks. Morning and evening shade provided by nearby bushes. Otherwise, its a big open field (though quick access to a beach was a major plus).

Everything was great, especially the clean grounds and lawnscape, but the night was partly ruined for sleeping due to a group of adjacent campsites on row K who had noisy kids, a loud generator, and a string of bright lights shining well after 10pm, lasting past midnight. We woke up the next morning to it's sound.I think park needs a ranger to drive through after 10pm to enforce quite time, at least during busy times (weekends & holidays). Asshole Patrol! :-)

We come here multiple times during the year and will continue to return! Its always so clean and well manicured. Weve always had good luck of scoring a spot whenever we just show up so we can scout out where wed like to sleep before buying our night, but Memorial Day was packed to the brim this year while the 4th was overflowing with empty camp spots. We absolutely love the ability to go to the beach thats literally right there. Most beautiful view of the lighthouse, cant wait for the renovation project to be complete so we can climb it!

Location is good. Poor drainage at most sites. Showers could use water warmed a bit from sun and could be accomplished with simple holding tank, not expensive of complicated just common sense.
@JasonG2268691 · Camped on Jun 7, 2024 at Campsite #G16
Great location and quiet. Only down fall is showers and bathrooms are covered in bugs and spiders. The bathroom sinks dont seem to want to shut off properly and washing your hands can be interesting since the sink was filled with roaches and little black bugs crawling all over. Besides that area was clean. All Neighbors was quiet and seeing some officers parked close to entrance gave a sense of security. 8/10

Sites had plenty of space, and all close to restrooms (clean) and showers (clean, cold). Beautiful location near Hatteras Lighthouse, currently being reinforced after a move, a must-see despite scaffolding and -learn about at the Visitor Center for its history. A good base from which to tour the island, also to go to Ocracoke. Beaches are great for romantic or quiet walks, wildlife watching, swimming, and ocean fishing. Nearby towns have some camping supplies, but best to have the basic needs. Have bug spray for the campground during warm months, as sites are on grass with shrubs. No tree shade, so bring shade with you (stand-up tents). Sunscreen and a hat/head cover are essential.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
