This campground has a lot of potential and I understand the host is bringing it back. Probably lack of resources but still worth the trip.

Wonderful, clean, and peaceful campground! Camp host was very helpful and friendly. He works very hard to provide a clean campground, as well as provide for the safety and protection of all guests. I cannot wait to visit and camp again!

The Park is awesome and the camp host Chuck is a really great guy and does an amazing job of making everyone feel welcome and safe.He has also done an amazing job keeping the camp clean. I have been coming here for years and this is the best I think I have ever seen here.I love the newly renovated sites.

Chewalla Lake Campground is definitely coming along in its revitalization.The sites are much improved and the bathhouse is great. The lake is scenic and the trails are fun for hiking and biking.Hopefully they will follow thru with the 50 Amp upgrades on the primary sites and if they would also do the sewage upgrade for those sites the amount of visitors will increase drastically.We have enjoyed multiple stays at Chewalla and the Park Host, Chuck, is very friendly and helpful!

Campground is secluded and very peaceful. Campground host is friendly and working hard to maintain the campground. Recommend taking hammocks to relax and watch the fireflies at night.

When we arrived, only two other campers were in the entire campground, which looked run down. The roads needed repair, and the sites looked infrequently used. I met the camp host and asked what was up. He said he was a volunteer who had signed on to restore the campground, which had fallen into ruin and had been shut down for a while. If it weren't for him, I would have left. He reassured me it was safe. This campground could be a real gem if it were properly funded. It needs money and more help to restore to its former glory. I hope this happens, as it would be a treasure unrealized if not. The camp host is a real caring patriotic host. He needs help. He cares and deserves more support. Would I recommend others stay there? Yes, definitely. Especially to show that this campground is worth saving.Please increase funding and support to bring it back to life.

Beautiful and peaceful night, would stay again! You can tell the new camp host has really put his heart into this place. There were tons of new renovations, the bathrooms and showers were super clean and the host was very welcoming. We only spent a few hours here the morning after we arrived, but we easily could have spent the whole weekend.

This park is a hidden GEM! We stayed in a 25ft travel trailer we tow behind our truck. We loved every second of being there and wish we could stay longer. The site is incredibly clean, easy to maneuver, camp host and his wife were so friendly! We only wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely recommend if your passing through or headed for a weekend!!!

Had a great time during our stay at Chewalla. The place was clean and tidy, and well-represented by the campsite host who was friendly and helpful during our stay. Good fishing off the dock (caught 7 or 8 cats here) and throughout the lake (averaged 1.5/hr over 4.5hrs or so). Still a little cold for good fishing imo. Hot showers, washer and dryer with detergent and dryer sheets, firewood available, everything we expected and then some. We have no complaints, and will definitely be back if it fits in our schedule.

Very peaceful campground. When we were at the campground, we were the only campers in the campground. Very nice sites and a lot to accommodate big rigs. Only electric and water but a dump station. nice trails and lake. Chuck works hard to keep up the place.

Camp Hosts greeted us as we pulled in. Filled us in on what was available and where it was. We asked about fire wood. Before we had backed into the site, he had delivered a small arm load of split wood. Wish we had more time to explore the place more thoroughly.

Great low key site. Chuck, the campsite host, greeted us and was very informative of the current renovation that is still going on. Still a lot of work on the back sites, but will be back again. Park ranger did frequent drive throughs.

The campsite was closed for awhile and was recently hit by a micro burst. The camp host and NFS have done a good job of getting the campground back in recent shape. The bathrooms should be done soon. I felt very safe and the campground was clean and quiet. I guess my only complaint would be the 1,000,000 watt flood lights on the washroom. Kind of ruins the darkness of the camping experience.

We got to the park ant it said it was closing due to extreme vandalism. The park’s facilities were all locked and there was just a port a potty there, the sites were a mess and out of all the sites there, only 2 were reserved July 4 weekend. There was no camp host, no check in and it was totally deserted except for two tent campers, one group looks like they had been there for a long time, they had a car but no license plate was on the car. We were to scared to stay so we left after walking around the entire campground, which looked totally abandoned. I would like my money back.

A really nice campground area,however, the bathhouses were closed due to vandalism & the whole rec area is being shut down,closed completely because of that & not being able to get good,responsible camp hosts. Really a shame as the sites are roomy some w/electric & water, all have fire rings & grills. The Army Corp of Engineers always does a great job with all their campgrounds & recreation areas. Too bad this one will be closed indefinitely. Very sad.

Host was flipping out screaming all morning. No one was there. Chunks of burnt wood laying all over the place. Swimming area and restrooms were closed due to vandalism.

During our first stay on May 9 the grass was overgrown, sites were full of garbage and branches and the place looked abandoned. A tornado hit nearby and we had to scope out a ravine to run to since the bathrooms were closed. On our second stay on May 19 the grass had been cut but a sketchy couple slept in their pickup truck nearby with a loose dog and the man rode his 4-wheeler around the campground until around 2am. At least he finally turned his loud music off around 11pm. It would have been nice to have a ranger come through to check things out. It's a shame, because the lake here is pretty and it's a very convenient location right off the interstate. If you come here, just know you're on your own and there are very few "livable" campsites.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
