Great site, very spacious and although its not directly on the water its only steps away. You do have to hike in but its a very short walk, maybe 30 feet at most. Pit toilet by the boat ramp was pretty terrible, but we were there right after 4th of July weekend and there was a heat wave, both things which impacted its state. Make sure to bring a paddle board or kayak to check out the gorgeous view of Mt Hood from the water (the mountain is behind the campground and not visible unless you are on the water). The road in was washed out but our Explorer managed it fine as well as our friends small rv.

First time at #1. WOW. Amazing time, beautiful weather, great host. Already on our list for next year!

Love to camp and paddle board here!

We really enjoyed our night at this campground and site 1 was very secluded. Would definitely come back!

The camp host was a real stickler, threatening us about every rule and we did nothing wrong.

Campsite 3 was great - fully shaded with a nice large spot for a tent. On one side, there was the road to enter the area, and on the other was the road to one of the boat ramps, so there was some people moving on both sides, but on the weekend we were there, everyone was respectful and moved along quickly. The road in was mostly paved with about a quarter mile unpaved section and one deep ditch that our CRV did fine with. The host was active and welcomed us when we parked and was available if we needed anything. He was selling wood bundles for $10 but also let us know there were plenty of felled trees around we could use for our campfire. Definitely no water or no service but we had a lovely time!

We had campsite 1 right on the water and had a great stay. It was very quiet, and there was room for 2 tents. The bathrooms were well taken care of, as good as a pit toilet can be. We enjoyed paddling on the water with views of Mt. Hood, and fishing.

We were rained upon the entire trip, but the campsite itself was excellent. Access to the water was easy, the lake was spectacular, water is clear and clean, the no-bait fishing rule helps with that certainly. It is well maintained and people clearly work to keep the site clear of trash and such. Just a great out of the way spot.

The camp host this year I believe his name is Pat is doing an excellent job! The bathroom has never been cleaner, the noise drops at 10 pm and we just really had a great time.

Pros: beautiful lake, cannot hear cars so very quiet, able to see stars on a clear night, great views of Mt. Hood, prime location for exploring.Cons: We stayed in Campsite #14 and it was NOT ADA Accessible (could not back in, no pavement, steep and uneven slope, etc.). Looking at the website now, all of the sites are listed as accessible but to my eyes, very, very few actually are so if you have accessibility needs, this may not be the campsite for you. I would also rate bear safety and awareness as low to very low. The campsite is also private (as in not USFS) which was fine but I say that because we needed to adjust our expectations.Tips: Campsite #1 looked to me like the best site. Grateful Vineyard has really good pizza for when you are sick of camp food.

Site 14 is not waterfront. You have to cross the day use gravel parking lot to get to the lake. Also because it is connected to the day use area, it is neither private or quiet. It is directly next to the camp host and people are walking up to the camp host at all hours of the day and can see everything in your site. I would not recommend this site, very disappointing.
@JudieR7076917 · Camped on Jul 12, 2023 at Campsite #9
Major hike in. Surrounded by trees, but not covered by trees. Spot gets very hot during the day. It was way too difficult to get everything in and out, wont be back. There is no water, bring your own.
@MadisonW817980 · Camped on Jul 1, 2023 at Campsite #21
We had a wonderful stay. Site 21 was fairly private and there were no mosquitoes. Had a great time hiking and playing in the lake. The road in was fine in an SUV. Firewood is available onsite and nearby.
@TaniaL68DAC808 · Camped on Jun 30, 2023 at Campsite #13
The lake is very beautiful, with good swimming and great hikes nearby. However this is not my favorite campground. The campsites are very close together and all adjacent to the day use area, which gets extremely loud and crowded. It was the most noisy and crowded campground experience I have had in the PNW.
@ThomasR5111286 · Camped on Jun 19, 2023 at Campsite #20
I appreciated that it was tent camping only and no motorized boats on this fairly large lake. Kept noise levels minimal. Lake water was still too cold for swimming in June. Campsites were not very private. The bathrooms were well maintained, better than most. Good base camp for other daytime explorations in the area.

Camp manager is always a hoot and extremely helpful. Clean toilets! Friendly neighbors.

Incredibly quiet, very pretty, friendly ranger/host, and clean bathrooms. We were at site 20 nestled in the center of the site away from the driveway, which was confusing to find at first because we didn't understand that it wasn't a drive up/park in site. We had to walk several yards to and from the car for supplies, but luckily we're fit. Foliage is pretty dense and the sites were very big, so there was a lot of privacy. And you can't beat the view of Mt Hood. We'll def be back.

great remote location, the road to get there has a sketch section that goes over a little bridge, but otherwise really nice and remote location. some good hiking nearby and water for all your activities. the campground itself is well laid out and offers good seclusion as well as quick access to the bathroom, which btw was super clean for a campground pit. the one big missing thing is drinking water. we filtered the water from the stream that flows into the lake.
@DodieW7295918 · Camped on Aug 23, 2022 at Campsite #14
The road getting to the campground is pretty rough and really could be improved. The campground is nice and peaceful. Never saw the camp host come around.
@ShawnS1271452 · Camped on Aug 9, 2022 at Campsite #7
Beautiful setting but there was no camp host present the three nights/four days we were there. A campground "manager" showed up a couple times so we were able to speak with him about other campers ignoring the NO CAMPFIRE signs posted. We also had concerns about the overflowing dumpsters in the parking lot, which can attract bears. Other than those issues we really enjoyed out time there, doing the Laurance Lake Ridge hike and tooling around the lake in a kayak. The description "Hidden gem" is accurate.

2nd time staying here this summer, this time was much quieter, campground about half full and everyone was quiet at night, day use wasn't very busy I would think its because of the bad road. The one bad thing was we had to clean up from the previous campers, ( no camp host) there was food left all over, strawberries , cherries,piles of cooked rice, and a busted up watermelon. Huge yellow jacket attraction! There is dumpsters! Camp host comes from Lost Lake a few times a day.
@CourtneyR66270 · Camped on Jul 31, 2022 at Campsite #16
Overall stay was fairly good. Was not aware through the site of multiple rules. My reservation stated I was also allowed two cars (no prompt of extra fee) and camp host notified us that there was a fee. Loved how site 016 was close to the lake, but did not like how strict it was at times.
@CeliaM4191848 · Camped on Jul 24, 2022 at Campsite #19
Would have given this an excellent review except that we were not able to stay in the campsite we originally wanted to. There had been so much damage to the site over the last year, i could not traverse the path. But the manager and host worked to help is get a space closer to the lake. Which turned out very nice. The park host work so hard to make our stay nice. A bit Dusty but good. We were there for a week.

amazing campground
@JoAnneF3861041 · Camped on Jul 10, 2022 at Campsite #1
The camp host David and Park Ranger Steve were friendly and helpful. Site 001 was beautiful and had easy access to the lake that was just stunning! What was unbeknownst to us and were not included in other reviews, is that there is a path very near our campsite that led to a small beach next to our campsite and MOST of the day users parked by our campsite and accessed the path to the beach. They were loud and obnoxious till 8:30pm when they left. It really is a beautiful campsite but having day users walk back and forth so close to our campsite makes me think twice of choosing campsite 001 and will choose another site away from day users. The dirt road to the campground was a treacherous at some places. Check campground for alerts before arrival. The lake again was beautiful and the campground a gem.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
