The new bathrooms and showers in Meadow Creek are absolutely awful. They have nowhere to put anything while you shower: you have to go back and forth from shower to bathroom to dry your hair and brush your teeth. They are not being cleaned : they were dirty the whole week we were there. We HATE them ! They should have just installed new faucets in the old bathrooms.

Camping at Lake Sherwood is always something we look forward to... from kayaking to swimming, or just spending time with friends and family. The lake is much cleaner this year, but still need to be diligent in keeping the water shield under control. The reason for the 4 stars rating is because the women's shower in West Shore, for 2 weeks, only had 1 shower working. Even with the camp host requesting permission to fix the issue as he is a master plumber, and by the end of the 1st week it should have and could have been fixed.

I have been going to Lake Sherwood for 30 years and the only complaint I've ever had was weather related. The staff at Lake Sherwood is always friendly and helpful. When I leave there I'm always thinking about my next trip. The updated showers bathrooms was a very needed and appreciated update. If someone asked me about what I like best and worst it would be:Likes:The sound of a crackling fire early in the morning and eveningWaking up to the sound of the birds singingHearing rain on my tent at nightThe sounds of children laughing and playingSpending time with my daughter and her familyWalking the trails and taking photos of the lakeThe peacefulness in the early morning while walking to the lake to watch the sunrise Meeting new people who share in the love of this placeEating and cooking outdoors...I don't even mind doing dishes!Seeing my grandson's enthusiasm at meeting up with an old friend and fishing buddyI I love this place!Dislikes:Packing up and going homeUnpacking

Nice campground nestled in the Monongahela National Forest. Plenty of wildlife to watch, trails to bike or walk on, and easy lake access for boating or fishing. Campground facilities were well maintained. Warm water showers are a plus!

Brand new bath and shower buildings which are modern and nice looking. Enjoy. New modern facilities but don't worry, it's still the same beautiful campground it's always been.

Looks like there is money flowing into the campground, New Bathhouses (mine didn't have water yet) and improved gravel sites. It is a wonderful area, so I hope they keep it getting upgrades. We'll be back to check!

I was skeptical at all the great reviews about Lake Sherwood, but I agree! This place was great! The lake is nice and cool. The mountains are pretty. The campground has everything you'd need (no electric and water hook ups but we tent camped). The camp sites have tent pads, table, fire pit and lantern poles. Only thing I wish we had prepared for was how old the tables were (and brought a table cover)--they are woods, and they have that green slimy mold on them that wood gets from moisture, and they are soft. They have seen better days, so we just sat in our camp chairs, and we put a tub lid on the table so nothing got damp from the table. The lake bath house is really nice. We showered there every day once done at the lake. We rented SUPs, and we paddled the lake for 2 hours. We brought floats and sunned in the water. We brought chairs and sunned in the grass. We had a cooler (stores sells ice) and we had lunch under the trees in the shade each day. The little store has minimal supplies, but they have ice cold sodas, and we liked going in and getting Diet Cokes. It was kind of our little thing at the end of the day. The store takes cards, btw. No cash needed. It was just clean, simple, relaxing, easy fun. We WILL be back. 0 cell service, which was fine with us! We unplugged, and we relaxed for 3 nights. Next time we will bring our own SUPs and be more prepared for cooking--usually it rains on us every time we camp, but the weather was perfect and clear the whole time. We did have steaks, squash and mashed potatoes one night. BTW, it is very damp in the campground despite it not raining. The campground is very dense forest, and things are just wet. We didn't close our tent during the day, so when night came, it would get dew. Our fabrics stayed a little damp the whole time. Lesson learned to keep the tent always closed up. It cooled off enough that having windows open wasn't necessary. We went in early August--it was not hot at night.

Lake Sherwood is gorgeous! The campsites are huge and far enough apart for privacy. Miles and miles of beautiful hiking. The showers are a little dated, but clean and hot water. We will definitely go back. It is our new favorite!

One of my very favorite campgrounds! Beautiful views, great trails, large private campsites, and new bathrooms. I have been visiting Lake Sherwood since I was a child and it remains one my very favorite places to camp. Looking forward to my next trip.

Site was great. Backing in was a little tricky because the site is flanked by trees and angled almost 90 degrees from the road (we have a 17’ trailer). Rented a John boat which was awesome.
@JamesH5225020 · Camped on Jul 3, 2023 at Campsite #42
The new bathrooms and showers were great. We had reserved a campsite and when we arrived there was a much better site across the road that was non-reservable, first come first serve. I asked if we could move at the check in office. They guy said yes but we would have to pay for it. So we did move and then a different person was at the office when we went to pay and they got all in a tissy because that was not allowed. We paid for two campsites so I don’t see a problem and they office worker shouldn’t either.

Really great campsite! Shore line is a bit marshy at the time we went, so bring appropriate shoes / pants for bugginess. Hosts were very helpful and informative, and kept us in the loop about storms approaching and where to take shelter. Great host. Only feedback would be better/clear instruction on where to wash dishes near campsites - we mostly just saw where NOT to wash them.

Always be ready for rain. Lots to visit nearby such as Beartown, Cranberry Glades & its Visitor Center as well as the Salt Cave just outside of White Sulphur Springs. The Big Draft Brewery is a nice place to dine.

We love Lake Sherwood! We have been camping there for 50 years and enjoy every trip. I love walking the trails with my camera in hand and capturing the flowers , the wild life and of course the beautiful scenery. Its very peaceful and quiet unless you are camping close to people that bring a ton of dogs. We don't camp any where else. Love the volunteer hosts, they are the best. This is a unplugged camping experience.

Well, at least now we’ll know not to camp along the lake. Two sites down(#19), the people had two small dogs that carried on constantly. It was ridiculous. I mentioned to the camp host who was in the site next to us that the people must’ve thought the yapping critters were grandchildren instead of dogs. This went on from Sunday until early Thursday when the campers left with their dogs. Then it was a peaceful day. But then Thursday night after ten p.m. a party broke out up the way. It went from loud talking and laughing to yelling and shrieking, I’m assuming as alcohol consumption increased. Again, with the camp hosts right beside us. I mentioned it as we were packing up Friday to the attendant as she removed the card from our driveway post. She apologized and asked if we complained to the host. I smiled and just said, “They are right there”.

Camping area and lake were pristine. My young son enjoyed the beach and the campsites were nicely spaced with plenty of privacy and convenient access to the lake.

Wonderful place to stay! Our favorite RV destination. We enjoy the hiking, camping lakeside, and ice cream from the boat shop.

Enjoyed our time at Sherwood lake. Our camp host Jerry and Jesse where very helpful and like always did a great job in making the visit pleasurable. Love the family atmosphere at Sherwood lake. The camp sites need a lot of work. Grass was high. Need to invest in putting electricity to all of the sites.

Beautiful location. We have camped at Lake Sherwood in excess of 50 years. We have witnessed improvements over those many years to accommodate campers. We were disappointed that not all campgrounds had been updated with restrooms & showers. Our Meadow Creek Loop still has dated bathroom facilities while all the other campgrounds have new bathroom facilities. The campsite #87 is desperate need of gravel. It’s a muddy mess when it rains. Also, it would be a great service to campers to provide a designated “hotspot” for cell service. Lastly a stocking of bass & other fish is greatly needed.

Lovely lake. My family had a great time on their first camping trip there. We stayed almost a week. I enjoyed myself but if you are planning on going fishing, have your fishing license before you get there because this camp grounds doesn't have onsite temp licensing for fishing and Walmart is 45 minutes away. Some camp sites I've been to do have temp fishing license. Another thing is if you are camping in a tent, bring you a set of solar panels. Only the bath house has electric. Bring non perishable food. Use zip lock freezer bags to put ice in to keep food and drink cold without the mess of water in the bottom of the cooler. The boat house sells ice, eggs and milk. There are bears and what my husband calls "Mafia squirrels." Do not leave food out or trash out! We seen a black bear crossing the street on our way back into the park our 2nd day there. The wild life was beautiful. Very Clean and well kept camp ground. I took a shower in the bathhouse with a tree frog which was so cool. we swam, my husband rented a boat on the lake and took our son out fishing for the first time. They ended up playing pirates instead. I recommend this place 100%. Disconnecting from the world and resting under the stars, was just what our family needed before school started back up. The camp staff was great and very helpful. thank you

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
