Our overall experience was poor because the area is infested with ticks (beyond reason) and the water was turned off. The actual campsite area is peaceful, wooded and private. Neighbors are far apart and one can barely hear vehicles. Plenty of flat space and shade to set tent. The site (#9) is about 75 yards away from parking location. I recommend having a wagon to transport gear back and forth. This location is beyond using Permethrin to kill ticks. It needs to be fumigated routinely to manage population. This might have been the reason why not a single soul was camping at the time, maybe a red flag? (I am new to KS/MO). Unfortunately, I would not return to this specific location for what I perceive as abandonment and/or neglect.

Dont know what happened. The location from this site was confusing. Even the workers at council bluff didnt recognise this site (019, L2SG COUNCIL BLUFF RECREATION). I went to site 19 and someone was already using it.

My only complaint was all of the water spigots were not working.
@MelanieP401035 · Camped on Aug 4, 2023 at Campsite #B
We stayed at group site B. It said it accommodated 50, but it was pretty dang crowded with our 25. The website also said it had water. And they did have several spigots, but none were operational. We didn't bring enough water so we had to do a few runs into town for more. It was a six minute drive to the lake. The lake was awesome though! The campsite was pretty and not too crowded. We did run out of toilet paper in the bathrooms though and had to use some we luckily brought from home. We aren't used to camping in paid campgrounds, so for as much as it didn't offer (mainly water and more space or picnic tables to accommodate big groups) it seemed pretty expensive. But it might be the best place around here! So we might go again anyway. And if you aren't used to camping in the western states the proximity to other campers might not bother you.

Had a beautiful weekend at Council Bluffs. However, this site states that there is water available. There isn't any water, potable or non-potable. All of the faucets were off. Very quiet and nice.

This place is nice. Quiet and secluded shady campsites. We had planned to kayak on the lake, but it was too cool, so we hiked.

We enjoyed our weekend at the beach and utilizing the campsites. The beach is such a beautiful hidden gem! The campsites are nice and you do feel very secluded. We really enjoyed our time there. My only complaint with this location would be the condition that the bathrooms are in. I kind of expected the ones in the actual campgrounds to be gnarly- which they were.. but the ones at the beach (actual flushable toilets) were just as disgusting. They need more attention than what they are currently receiving.

We were very disappointed in our stay. We had reserved our campsite for 5 days but we only stayed one night. The restrooms were unusable. The firepit had never been cleaned. We drove 5 hours to get there and were so disappointed we packed up the next morning and headed home.

This is a National Forrest Campground. I wish it was open all year, but it is seasonal. It is my favorite campground in Missouri. The beach area obviously is seasonal. and also the best swim beach in Missouri. The only issue with campground is that the water pump was down so the spigots did not work when i visited over July 4th weekend, and again 3 weeks later. i know it was a temporary issue, and had enough water with me the 2nd weekend. They did allow us to fill water containers at the concession building at the beach if needed.

Campground was quiet, bluegill fishing was good, trout fishing not as much. Raccoons were around, they were getting into everything in the camp at night. There were box turtles walking on all of the roads and paths in the morning. Some deep-woods OFF and some mosquito nets would have been really helpful. The bugs weren't pestering, we barely noticed them, but we did get chewed up pretty good.

Great wooded sites with lots of privacy, clean pit toilets and grounds. The lake is wonderful and clean. The beach is excellent and clean restrooms. Great place for a family

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
