We lucked out. Very low traffic. Had the entire campground to ourselves. Beautiful views and weather.

breath taking views, supreme stargazing action, and... aliens?! Reyes Peak has been my go-to spot for years and it is a true gem. And yes, I experienced extra-terrestrials while camping here and it scared me senseless. I can't give it five stars because I am a spoiled car camper and this place lacks the amenities I prefer such as a flush toilet and potable water. If you have not been, you are doing yourself a disservice. Make that wild drive up the mountain, break out your hammock, and if you happen to see a red light in the valley that multiplies and it looks like it is getting closer to youget into your tent asap!

Beautiful area, loved it. Could have been better though. Had for 2 nights, left after 1 due to Bear in area and fresh dropping on trailhead. No other campers showed up even though there were reservations. Will try again with larger group

There is a Yellowjacket nest under the fallen tree 10 feet from the picnic table at site 5. From sun up to dark they will be aggressive toward you - especially if you are cooking meat or have anything sweet/sugary. They will sting you when you try to put your food - which they now consider their food that you are taking from them - away. This is my second time at Reyes peak site 5 and both times it was bad. The park service needs to kill the nest. Otherwise this is a beautiful spot.

Bugs towards the ends of dinner time. Outhouse was shabby but adequate. However the scenery is fabulous and the trails are difficult & it's all so worth it!!!

This site is a diamond in the rough. There is no water at all, so bring in everything you need. No trash, so bring out everything you bring in. Only one toilet. The camp sites are very spread out, so most people would drive down to the toilet. If you plan on using two sites for a larger group, just realize they could be 100m or more away from each other (which I think is a good thing). We camped late November and it was COLD! There were absolutely no fires or open flames as the Santa Ana winds had kicked in. But honestly I don't think we would have been able to start a fire in the pit even without the winds. So without fire warmth and the sun setting at 4:45 and very limited water, it was a unique camping experience, and one of my favorite. The location is incredible, the ocean and valley views are magnificent, the rocks and trees and cosy tent sites are lovely. I will go back without a doubt. Stoping in Ojai for lunch on the way up is a perfect break before hitting the very curvy mountain road. This site is for campers who have their stuff figured out and together.

A stunning campsite! Great views and very quiet. Campsites are large and spread out. Drive up was very curvy, but campsite was relatively easy to find. All in all a lovely experience. We stayed 1 night.

It's a great location, however, there was smoke that weekend which prevented us from staying. On top of that, another party had already set up camp at our site. The camp host was nowhere to be found so I did not have an opportunity to discuss the situation. After reporting these issues I requested a refund but was denied. Pretty disappointed.

Great site that is secluded and private. Lots of great trails and breathtaking views. I went in early September and it was very dry and windy. No campfires or stoves allowed. The wind actually blew very hard right through our site for about 16 hours. Lots of confusion on the first come first serve sites and the reservations. I made reservations six months in advance and my dates weren’t listed on the reservation card at my site. I had to show my confirmation to someone who claimed the site (site #4) for that weekend. Other than that, it was an amazing experience and well worth the trip. I will be back.

Simply and excellent location. Plenty of space between each camping spot. You may see others around, but overall there is easily enough room for everyone to find peace and quiet. Great access to trails if you want to hike and the views are unbeatable. Cannot wait to go back! There is a toilet located about midway between all the camp spots. It’s OK as vault toilets go, but if you want a truly upscale experience, drive up to the Reyes Peak Trail Head parking lot where you’ll find an immaculate vault toilet on hand. Make sure you bring fly repellent, and always be aware of the weather. Things can be vastly different at 7,000 feet! And take care on the road up a d down. It’s a single lane, very tight road with dozens of blind turns. Wisdom dictates taking it slow as there are no gaurs rails, plenty of steep drops and we’ve had a few near misses due to people trying to drive quickly. Just now it’ll take a few extra minutes and demands you pay attention to the road, not the views. Which, admittedly, are epic!

Campsite 2 was honestly great. Close enough to the toilet but far enough where we don't get any smell. Plus, it's well-shaded and has a beautiful view of the stars. When, we went there was no other campers so it was very secluded and serene! You can smell the pine trees. One of the best camping experiences. Highly recommend. Just bring lots of bug spray and be prepared since help is miles away. Also, bring layers because it does get pretty cold at night even in the summer. Happy camping! Oh, and the drive up wasn't the worst. At least the road is paved. Just honk on turns.

This campsite is at the very top of the world. It has amazing natural beauty and is really off the beaten path. The drive in is one of the best in all of California. The negatives are the lack of water, which is especially hard as the nearest store is well over an hour away. Second if you are camped near the latrine, there are a lot of flies when the wind is down.

Beautiful campgrounds. A portion of the road there is kind of scary, mountain road without railing. But worth it when you get up there. We were in a tundra pick up truck and we’re fine.

The views at Reyes Peak are unlike any other campground we have ever been to. The sunsets are unrivaled and the stars were stunning. But, the rock climbers who kept parking in our campsite, walking through our campsite, and climbing the rocks not even 10 feet from our tent while we were trying to sleep were quite annoying. And I don’t mean one group, over the three nights we stayed there this occurred with 8 different groups consisting of 20+ people. If we ever go back it will be to a different campsite. Site 5 not recommended.

Only 6 Campsites so it's easy to break it down. Site 1 & 6 are first come first serve only. Site 1 - Up front with a round about that people circle around in to find cel reception. It's right at the trail head for a steep hike down to Raspberry Springs Site 2 - Is where I stayed. Plenty of room to spread out with a short hike behind to a stunning overlook for sunset. Site 3 - Right next to 2. Closest 2 spots together. Site 4 - Has the best view without hiking away from camp. A friendly hippie couple was posted there puffing medicine the whole day long. Site 5 - Fantastic rock formations right in the forefront next to the picnic table and fire ring. Tent pads might be a ways back. But it felt like a multi-level mansion! Site 6 - Like 5 but better. The camp host told me that if you snag it, you can have it for 14 days. Might be a good spot to host a big party with revolving camp guests...... The walk to Reyes Peak trail head is 30 mins from camp. And it's a huff to the top, but worth it. I did it alone and enjoyed the serenity of a media blackout during the election night(s). Later on, as I was cooking dinner and enjoying some vino @ 7,000ft elevation; a motorcade of sheriff/search and rescue vehicles were headed to the trail head to locate a family that went missing on a hike. I wonder if we wandered down similar paths. Hope they're OK. When winds rip through here, it is intense. You're essentially on a ridge so enjoy it. Forgot my kite at home. A mistake I won't make again. Campfires were restricted during my visit. And the host informed me they're only allowed when the fire crew is in the neighborhood. Even if I were allowed to enjoy a camp fire I would do so cautiously. The whole place feels like a tinder box just waiting for a spark to burn down a couple million acres. Fantastic spot to camp at high altitudes if you're into that sort of thing. My neighbors had to call it a day early since they were feeling queezy neezy. I embraced it with a bottle of cab.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
