It was our first time camping. It was good. Bathroom was clean with plenty of toilet paper. Fire pits and a trail close by. The only thing that I was surprised by was th generator use. We had a few rv neighbors and it seems that each used their generator in sequence so there was a constant generator hum all weekend.

McGill was amazing! Campsite was clean and tidy. We went in October and it wasnt that busy at all. Nice and quiet! We hiked to Mount Pinos one of the days, which was a very nice 4 mile hike not too far from the campsite. Overall great experience, highly recommend!

Beautiful Campground. Good hiking trails. This site is right next to the rest room so expect orders if the wind is blowing in a certain direction. It's also one of the biggest tent sites and flat. There are many beautiful sites but not all have nice flat tent pads. I knew about the possibility of the pit toilet oder so I won't complain, it just is the price for the site. Hosts are wonderful, they do clean the restrooms, but pit toilets can smell. I saw a previous post of someone complaining about the toilet oder and if that will bug you too much, choose another site :).

At McGill you feel like you are in the Sierras. We love the fresh air and smell of the pine trees. The trails are vast and very fun, and it's so close to home! We've been twice in the past 30 days and have another trip planned. Yeah!

First time camping at McGill CampgroundThe camp road and parking spot were nicely asphaltedThe sites are nicely spaced -- hardly heard noises from our neighboring campersWe had a nice flat area for our tentThe restrooms well-maintained and clean - just a few feet from our siteThe trails were well-maintained (except for the signs) Cell coverage was decent. You can check for messages and social media but don't expect to play Netflix.The camp maintenance husband and wife team were very nice. They stopped by to give my dog a treat.Overall, the experience was amazing and would highly recommend this campsite.

The campsite itself is nice. Our family really enjoyed getting outdoors again. There is no water of any type so you have to plan accordingly. Bathrooms are good for the most part, some cleaner than others. Our big family reserved 3 camping sites next to each other. I will say one thing. The HOST is a REAL nuisance, at least the one that was there Labor Day weekend. He speaks to you in a threating way to not make ANY noise because he will call the sheriff and kick you out. I know some people want peace and quite in nature, but the way the HOST went about it was very rude. It conditioned our weekend and we couldn't enjoy it so much. We did our best to stay quiet after 9pm, but what blew our minds is that when our family where playing games together at 2:00 PM he came over to say we were too loud. He threatened to call the sheriff if he had to come back once more. We heard others being loud and having a good time, but it seems it was only us being harassed. Although he did say he would have another camper sent off if he couldn't have his dog stop barking. When he came at 2pm, we told him these facts about other being loud and he said the rules apply to everyone. Honestly I didn't believe that. Don't want to pull the racial card, but it felt a bit that way. If this is that type of campground where you're supposed to stay quiet at all times, it needs to be posted when you reserve it. We have stayed at many campgrounds throughout California. We know there is quiet time after a certain hour, but never before have we've felt harassed or conditioned based on the threats of the camp host, especially not in the middle of the day. Again, the location and nature part of was nice, but beware of the camp host that has an accent. The guy is not reasonable at all. I would definitely NOT return to this site just for that reason alone.

Nice remote camping area with excellent hiking trails in and around. Lots of shade with all the trees.

Love coming up to McGill. Great campground, lots of nice sites and relaxed vibes. The perfect escape during a hot LA weekend.

Amazing views and very convenient location. We originally booked spot 67 but were able to move to FCFS SPOT 66 upon arrival. Camp host was VERY friendly and cooperative. No water on site so come prepared. Vault Toilets are cleaned daily. It is 8800+ft above sea level so you will definitely feel it. The sun rises here are UNMATCHED. Neighbors were friendly and respected the quiet hours. Frazier Park is only 20mins back down the mountain for ANYTHING you could need from ice to firewood, drinks, of anything else.

We paid $216 for two campsites and five cars in total. Despite the website stating six people with two cars per spot, the host refused to acknowledge this. We paid cash but received no proof of payment. When I requested a receipt, the host became hostile and the next day told us we were no longer welcome, claiming they had spoken to the sheriff. They refused to provide their names and ran away when asked. I have all of this on video. There's no live representative or place to file a complaint. Save your time and choose a different campground.

Friendly hosts, great location, beautiful hikes straight from the campground. We were told our weather was luckily and that it's either full of bugs or snowing at any other time. Will definitely be back.

We went on May 19th & 20th. There were few people on campsites. The scenery was beautiful and the stars at night was spectacular.Campground was very cleaned. There was no water in the vault toilets but it was cleaned. I will definitely go back.

We had booked site 19 for an RV trailer but the length of the driveway ended up being too short than described online. The camp hosts helped us switch up sites and our other site 22 was long enough for the trailer and we then took campsite 21 and it was roomy enough for our big tent and not that far of a walk to the restrooms. Camphosts were super helpful and very nice! we walked around the entire campground and it was very clean and very well-kept. My children and I felt safe and had the best time!

Great place full of nice hiking trails. Far enough away so you don't hear the city. Mt Pinos is about a 10 mile/1500' elevation gain round trip.

Very mellow campground, beautiful forest and a pretty good breeze through the mountains. We went in September with a group and had some meat flies buzzing (no stinging bees), but by the time we returned in October (for a much smaller, non-group experience), the flies had gone. We love an alternate Fern Basin for a quick 2 hour drive quick-camping-escape, but there are no campfires allowed anymore. McGill still allows campfires, it is our new go-to. Make sure to get at least 3 bundles of wood per night. If it's October, put your water in the car, ours froze!! No kidding on elevation, bring extra weight for bedding. Toilets were clean, camp hosts were informative, been there over a decade. Great place to watch the elevation-blue sky and enjoy the sun through the trees.

Camped at sites 50 and 51. Nice view, but the site is on a slant, save for the table, campfire and tent pad, so that made setting up extra stuff (tables, a second tent, games) hard or not possible. Loved being up in the pines. Incredible view of the stars. The second night was super windy and that made everything creepy and cold. But it's good to be out in nature so matter the conditions, so we were all happy. No running water, so bring your own. We didn't get to a hike or anything, but looked like some decent ones in the area. All in all good site and nature for being 90 minutes from LA.

We enjoyed our stay. We had to switch campsites after the first night. The weekend camp host in charge of the campground runs a gas generator from basically 7 am to 10 pm. Nobody wants to hear this on a relaxing camping vacation. It was quite shocking that the camp host was the most noise polluting person there. We talked with the host and they said they are not breaking any rules as they shut it down for quite hours. The noise was quite annoying, as opposed to nature sounds, so we agreed to move to a site further away from the camp host and his small rv. The rest of the campground was fantastic. Clean and beautiful and relaxing. All other camp neighbors were quiet and respectful. It is in a great area. We usually end our camping trips there with a meal at Pine Mountain Club, a town nearby. Great restaurant, the Perch! and other bakeries. It is quickly becoming our go-to camping area to get out of LA.

Well maintained campground with clean pit toilets. The sites were spacious to accommodate 3 tents comfortably. It was a great camping weekend under the pine trees and hiking the nearby trails. It wasn’t crowded and had many sites unoccupied.

Fine experience overall for the type of campground - dry camping with pit toilets. Pit toilets seemed like they were cleaned regularly & stocked with TP so they were fine. I would have given a higher rating if the reservation system didn't require booking 2 nights on weekends. This campground isn't that busy and we were camping with scouts and booked several sites to accommodate our group size so we had the expense of booking/paying for 2 nights even though we only stayed one night. I wish they would change it in the reservation system so this campground doesn't require booking a minimum of 2 nights on weekends.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
