The 6 mile gravel road into the campground is pretty rough. The campsite was large with a convenient pull through and sites are not too close together. Flush toilets and a ware wash sink were a plus - we've been to primitive campgrounds so this was a step above. The lake was walking distance, beautiful and no crowds whatsoever. Cinder Cone hike was awesome.

Group camping, B and C basically pull throughs on the edge of group area. Site is large and open to the back, fire cleared all underbrush, some trees remain but ash and that dirty dirt made for black feet quick. Extremely friendly camp hosts, very clean bathrooms, nicely maintained roads in the campground, 6 mile drive off the highway on compacted gravel needs some love. Filling water for trailer tanks done at the bathroom no spickets, around the group camp. Butte lake was great, nice day use area, paddle board and kayaking was nice. There during full moon so fishing was bad ( other anglers same problem). Cinder cone trailhead right at the campground. 3 tables and bear boxes per group, 2 fire pits, group B fire pit is not raised and ground level pretty sketchy for kids. The big campfire spot for ranger speeches completely burned. Great for groups, little bugs not bad though, no bees this year, little bit of a drive to subway caves and even more to north park entrance, great spot to check out Lassen

The GroupCampsite C was huge. We had a great overall camping experience.

We really enjoyed the campsite here. Though the site was almost completely full, campers were all very respectful and we had a good distance between us and others. Lots of groups had bug tents for food prep, which was a smart idea - we had some trouble keeping our food pest free! Other than that a great experience, we wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach, on the trails, or in the water here. The camp host will play campground police and make sure that your dogs are not breaking these rules. We will not be back, as we like to let our dogs enjoy their time camping too.. Camp host also came out and told us we had a noise complaint, even though we were absolutely asleep the night before after quiet time. Seemed to be a situation where the camphost was a little power hungry. Gravel road in is long, 6.5 miles, and bumpy. The Cinder Cone Mountain is gorgeous and a good hard hike. Butte lake itself is beautiful, black sand.

The dirt road! Never in my life have I been on a dirt long this long and bumpy. It was dusty so we had to drive 10 mph. Everyone's cars in the campground were all covered in dust. The bump and the dust were unforgiving.

Your website states there are 3 bear boxes at each of the group campsites....this is not the case for many, if any at all. The website does not include information about how many fire rings are available at each site either, and this would be helpful information to have for food planning purposes.

Stayed 2 nights before labor day weekend during COVID. Great campsite with easy access to Cinder Cone Trailhead and Butte Lake. Flushing toilets and clean sinks for easy access to water.

Group camp sites are big but not well marked and it's hard to tell where your site begins and ends . They are also really close to each other someone in our groups tent was about ten feet away from another group's tent. The lake is nice, really clear but it doesn't have a lot of beach area. Overall the camp is nice though. Running water in bathroom and outdoor sinks which is great. Bear lockers hold a lot we fit two coolers and some bags. Only bad thing was bugs! SO MANY BUGS! Bring your spray and citronella candles!

This is just a wonderful, wonderful location. The campground is fairly busy, but for a good reason. Can't recommend highly enough.

This was advertised as a "private" group campground and that could not be further from the truth! It is a lovely camp site, lots of room but there are people everywhere. The only other problem we had were bees. And I mean LOTS of bees. About half of our group got stung at least once with some multiple times. The bees were everywhere and eating was miserable. I would consider going back if not for that. The hiking and kayaking were great

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
