Nice area away from it all

The campground is fine, it's the road getting there that is not. When we made the reservation we had no idea that we would have such a rough road getting into the park. 6 miles of rough gravel dirt road, approximately 45 minutes on this road. If you are tenting, it is probably fine, but not recommended for trailers. We have a toy hauler and it actually pulled the tie down out of the floor on the way in. Still trying to get the dirt and dust out of the trailer, inside and out. In the campground our spot had the table and fire ring quite far from where we were parked and on the other side of the trailer door. We will never return to this spot. They could at least grade it once in a while.

We had reservations for two nights starting 9/11/24. We knew the water had been shut off and were prepared for it. What we were not expecting was the total lack of privacy. You could see every campsite in the whole place. Perhaps due to the recent fire there were no bushes or smaller trees providing privacy or wind breaks. It was very windy when we arrived. The campfire ring was very low to the ground and that combined with the wind did not make having a fire a safe proposition. Due to the lack of privacy and no shelter from wind, we decided to leave and go somewhere else. Losing the camping fees was not cost prohibitive but the forfeiting the $30/ vehicle (2 in our party) that we paid just to drive up the dirt road was a bummer. The lake was beautiful though.

Road was so awful! Ruined the experience!

Wonderful campground. The spots are well spaced, the listed amenities are all present and well-maintained, and the nearby lake is wonderful for fishing, swimming, or just sitting by. If you're only coming for 1 night I would probably prefer saying near the main attractions (e.g. Manzanita Lake), but the campground itself is lovely.

The campsite is well maintained. Just next to Cinder Cone trailhead. Road to the campsite is not paved.

The reservations website has many flaws. When I made the reservation this campground showed only 3 available sites. When we arrived at the campground, more than 50% of the sites were empty and remained that way. Also, the websote needs to do a better job of explaining where campgrounds are so that out of towners know where the campfround is in relation to the park

Had a great stay. Beautiful campgrounds and surrounding areas.

We were there the day the Park Fire reached the northern part of Lassen NP. Voluntary evacuation had been put in motion, but we opted to stay there for our single-night booking anyway. Although it smelled like campfire, ash kept falling from the sky and the campground was smoke covered, we did have a great stay there anyway. We went up Cinder Cone with two small kiddos age 5 and 8 before leaving the next day, and we're so glad we didn't leave because of the smoke. Cinder Cone was a hassle to get up to, but it was an amazing experience. The lava beds were unreal. I've never seen anything like it before. The sudden transition between pine forest and a wall of lava is like something out of this earth. The only down side was the gravel road leading up to Butte Lake. It was the most terrible 6 miles in an RV I have ever experienced. The rilling on the road was so severe I was really worried we would end up with at least one flat tire during the drive. Luckily we did not, but I was so relieved when we finally arrived at the main road.

Our recent stay at this fantastic campsite was nothing short of amazing. Nestled in a serene location, the site offered breathtaking views and a tranquil environment, perfect for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Make sure to take a dip in butte lake it was clean and very refreshing. The facilities were well-maintained. The only drawback was its location at the end of a long gravel road, which made the journey a bit challenging, especially for those without a 4x4 vehicle. Additionally, the campsite is situated far from the main entrance of the park, so its worth considering the extra travel time for activities and excursions.Despite these minor inconveniences, the beauty and peace of the campsite more than made up for it. Its a perfect spot for those looking to disconnect and enjoy nature. We highly recommend it and would gladly return for another stay. Just be prepared for a bit of an adventure getting there!

It was very difficult to find out how to get a reservation on my tiny phone. I had to guess at where everything was, I should've done it on the computer. But there was a wildfire which made it impossible to use our reservation, we didn't show up, yet the funds were returned promptly..this was greatly appreciated. Support our national parks they are our treasure. Thank you.

Park layout is a little difficult, making for a lot of driving from this Campground. But relative quiet of the lake and the cinder cone hike are worthwhile.

Pretty Campground, relatively remote so nice and quiet.

Very nice facilities and a nice lake. The campground had plenty of shade and nice sized lots. We will probably be back again.

Nice and close to Lake Butte and the trailhead for Cone Peak! The lake water was so clear. Running water and flush toilets were a plus, and kept fairly clean! Camp sites are a little bit close together so it is a little loud if there are a lot of people around.

Super cool rocks, gorgeous lake, nice facilities, tall trees, and conveniently located close to Cinder Cone. Not a ton of privacy, but adequate space between sites. No service! So look up your reservation and campsite # before you go down the long gravel road!

Quiet camping site. I love it.

Pleasant camp ground - sites are well spaced, restrooms are clean and trash picked up on a regular basis. There is some interesting hiking and the lake is lovely (great for cooling off!)Unfortunately, generators are allowed and there is no way to know if you will be camping close to one.The camp can get dusty as some people drive their vehicles too fast on the gravel/dust roads of the campground.

So glad we changed from Manzanita Lake to this campground. It was so peaceful and close to the Cinder Cone hike which was a high priority for our trip. We had a travel trailer and the pull thru for our site made it very easy for set up. We shared with site A15 but noone ever showed up. Even if they had, we would have plenty of room to share. We think the site was the best since it had all open woods behind and was very flat. Really hope to visit again soon!

The campsite is big and clean, with good facilities, nearby the cinder cone and Lassen volcanic national park.
@Elisabeth7572F · Camped on Jun 30, 2024 at Campsite #B16
We liked the proximity to the bathroom (no shower). Close but far enough to not be bothered by the foot traffic. The site is leveled mostly which made it easy to park, and setup the tent. The reasons for the 4 rating and not 5: 1) the bear box - very convenient, is in full sun. Our food cooked on it own! Some may see this as a plus. 2) very few trees, LOTS of sun again, on the plus side, it made it easy to see the beautiful stars/night sky. We liked the proximity to the lake and if you have gear, easy to take a short car ride to the parking on the lake. Loved the Cinder Block hike and the hike around the lake. It was just before the 4th of July weekend and busy but still plenty of space to enjoy the wilderness.

Fantastic campsite! The six-mile gravel road in was a non-issue, the nearby Cinder Cone hike was fantastic, and the campground itself was superb. We'll be back!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
