I'm torn on how to rate my experience at Aspen Grove. The pros: beautiful lake, clean and spacious sites, and a friendly host. The con: I have never experienced mosquitos like these. For context, I lived in Southeast Asia for two years and am not naive or squeamish when it comes to various and sundry vermin. But the blood-suckers here were relentless; swarming my dog, my dishes, my stove, my coffee, my car, and me at all times of the day, biting through repellent-covered socks, pants, and my heavy hoodie. What I hoped would be two days of hiking and reading by campfire light turned into one long planning exercise on how to avoid being exposed at my campsite. It worked out okay, in the end, as we spent most of our time in Lassen NPS. However, I was fully covered during the collective 30 minutes I spent outside of my tent/car at this site, and still managed to get several dozen bites all over my body.Strangely, the mosquito density and hostility was much less intense in other locations nearby and nearly non-existent in Lassen National Park, about an hour and a half away. Not sure what is different about this spot or if I just got unlucky with my particular dates. Otherwise, a charming campground; just be prepared for all-out bug war.

Hard this year. Marina closed. One of bathrooms closed. But great site. Though fire pit was close to full.

We love this place and have returned for 40-50 years. Smoke drove us out early but we will come again.

Because of the Dixie fire we had the all campground to our selves pretty much ( end of July 202). The hosts were a very nice retired couple and were able to change our site to one of the first come first served campsites with better access to our car in the parking lot. The place by Eagle Lake is so serene, peaceful and beautiful!

Awesome campground surrounded by dense trees. The camp hosts were super cool!! Very friendly, approachable at anytime of day and knowledgeable about the area. The campsites are a short distance from the parking lot but they have wheelbarrows to help you move your gear. The lake water unfortunately is very low and there is not much fishing access from the shore. The last boat ramp on the whole lake was available at the marina below the campground and we were able to rent a boat to fish and had some luck. The lake when calm is absolutely beautiful. My advice is if you’re getting a fishing boat go as early as possible as the winds can pick up and the waves can get going in a hurry. There are hiking trails near by and many other lakes in the area which makes this campground a perfect home base. The camp hosts would be more than happy to show you a map of the area. They were so helpful and we had a blast!!

We camped at site #12 and it was close to the parking lot, yet very secluded. You have to use the wheelbarrows to carry things to your campsite from the car. Nice and quiet, by the lake, amazing stargazing at night. Nice clean bathrooms with flush toilets. There was another part of the campsite that seemed less secluded, but the spot we were in was perfect. It's about a 15 minute walk to the boat marina, where there is a store and showers. It's a nice walk to get different beautiful views of the huge lake. I would definitely return here next time we are in the area.

I had reserved 3 sites and I only needed 2. I tried for a week to cancel site #27, but you would not answer. Cost me $120 extra dollars.

This was a great little campground. Due to it being tent-only, it stayed relatively quiet. Friday and Saturday night, people got a little louder, but they still respected the quiet hours. The bathrooms were clean and kept well-stocked. The bike paths were fun for the whole family. Beautiful views of the lake from the campsite and even an eagle's nest nearby with baby eagles in it. The little star at the marina was a pleasant treat and had a little something for everyone. They even carried an impressive selection of beer. We went in June and the weather wasn't the best, but we still enjoyed ourselves and would visit this campground again.

Our 2nd night there about 4:00 in the morning we had 2 owls hoot back and forth as they slowly pasted through our camp site. Every evening we had someone in a not to far campsite play a Trumpet who was very good and ended the evening playing "Taps." I love hearing the greeb, that's my favorite, nothing better than NATURE!

This is a nice hidden gem in NorCal! Booked for wanting to visit Lassen National Park. It is a bit far from there (which is why I knocked a star off), but the camp ground manager (Forgot her name, but she was super helpful!) She told us about a gravel road shortcut. Honestly, that shortcut drive was near the top of my favorite experiences of the trip. It's at the bottom of a valley and through a giant field with cows grazing. Very remote, not much traffic. It was gorgeous! But anyways, the camp next to the lake was a nice treat. Water was delicious from the pump. No bears up there so don't have to worry about a bear box or getting murdered in your sleep. There are some small critters that will eat your food if you leave it out overnight. You can purchase firewood right there at the front from the manager. You don't have to worry about going to a store or anything. I liked that a lot. I would definitely camp here again!

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
