Axtel Campground, Mcdaniels, KY

Axtel Campground in Breckinridge county is located 50 min west of Elizabethtown, KY with an elevation of 524 feet. There are a total of 153 campsites. The campground is normally open from mid April to the end of October. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 16 and 80 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. 111 sites have electric and water hookups. Fees range from $18.00 to $56.00. Some amenities include shower, drinking water, dump station, wifi, playground, boat ramp, swimming, marina, fish cleaning station, restroom, trash dumpster, flush toilets, water sports rental. Activities include boating, fishing, floating sports.

Campsites were decorated up for the Halloween weekend and had trick or treat on Saturday evening. We always enjoy our visit to Axtel campground.

Attendants where so nice and pleasant.. Enjoyed the views of Rough River . Axtel is very nice, so close to the water. Everyone was so nice, also I liked the security there. Thumbs Up to Axtel campground!

We enjoy camping at Axtel very much. Some of the sites do need repairs: railroad ties are out of place, the smaller two-legged table stands are in bad shape and need to be replaced or removed. Overall, it's a great place to camp. We will be back. Thank you.

Bathhouse in the G loop were in need of repair. No soap was available on the men's side due to the dispenser leaking so they no longer filled it. Many toilet seats in all men's facilities need replacement the finish is worn off. The handicapped stall in the G loop was closed for our entire stay due to a stoppage.

The campground spot was beautiful. Maintenance was lacking look like the only thing they did was mow and made sure there was toilet paper. Area was pretty!

We have had a camper for 3 years. We started out slow, learning how to pack up, unpack, part the trailer etc. This year we made the commitment to start visiting different camping areas since we are now comfortable with the process! I did a google search on campgrounds that had a water view. This was THE BEST campground we have ever been to. Everything was amazing. The picnic tables, the grounds, the restrooms, the roominess of the spots, the wideness of the road (which is great for parking a trailer), the placement of the trash dumpsters and the dump station. I love this place and if were open later in the year, id sign up! Im already on line planning for next year. Thank you for such an amazing place to visit.

Best campground ever. The gate attendant was so nice and helpful, I think her name was Vicky. When we got there the camp site was to small for us she got us moved in seconds. The Park Rangers were on top of everything and as nice as they could be. Thanks for a wonderful time we will be back. John and Kim

Site 34 has a great view. A little difficult to Navigate a 33 ft class A between trees. Would not suggest staying longer than 3 days due to the difficulty of maneuvering the honey pot from the site to get to the dump station. Site was gravel, rocky, fairly level, nice sunset view with good tree coverage to block from evening sun. Was able to use starlink. Did not use bathroom facilities. No grassy area at the site for dog to use bathroom. 5 weeknights stay.

Water had been drained so no swimming.Campsite too close to some kind of electrical generator that went off day n night. The grass so long our 10 lb dog was half hidden and the sewer drains were placed too close to where the fire pits were.

WIFI hotspot never worked until early evening - could not get up address. When it did work, it dropped signal every few minutes. Cell signal non-existent for ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile. No one man's the entrance Monday to Wednesday, so good luck if you have a need.

This campground feels secure with a gate that requires a code for entry when the staff isnt present. The bathrooms are decent, with hand soap and sensor-activated water taps. However, there are only a few shower stalls, and they are quite oldthe wall tiles are peeling, and the showerhead sprays water in uneven streams. A unique sight here is the flock of large, black Turkey Vultures with red heads, flying around and scavenging for food scraps left behind at vacated campsites.

We had a great time all of the other campers were very friendly and willing to help everyone out. The park is very cleaning well maintained. We will be back to camp more this year.

Was good until people came in with barking dogs, screaming unattended children. Looked like an 18 month old just roamed around also unattended. The adults were loud talkers!!!! Children road bikes in road darting out in front of vehicles. No helmets no shirts no shoes. I felt bad for other campers. Glad our time was done!!!!!

Activities in the area should be posted or given out on a flyer. Grass is growing up through the gravel on most sites; looks terrible. Gnats and mosquitoes are really bad this year, so I guess they dont spray. Shower heads are old and dont work well in some showers.

A great camp ground. My last site was on the water. Looking across the lake at the lights of others reflecting in n the water and the Sunrise Beautiful. A very clean well kept facility.

The Camp Host was outstanding! We had reserved a site which was going to be directly in the sun during a horrific heat wave and our ac was having trouble keeping up. The Host recommended a different site and it was perfect.
