I recently stayed at Spring Valley Cabin/Bunkhouse and, unfortunately, had a very disappointing experience. The cabin was infested with mice, and we even encountered a rat the size of a guinea pig that came through the kitchen cabinets during the night. Mice were also entering through the kitchen door. This was not an isolated incident, as previous guests had also mentioned similar issues in the guestbook. Some stating they caught 4 mice in one day.This is particularly disheartening because we had stayed at this cabin multiple times before COVID-19 and never had any problems. The view from the cabin is absolutely breathtaking, which makes the current state of the cabin even more of a shame.We had booked a total of three nights but were unable to sleep due to the rodent infestation and left as soon as the sun was out the next day. Additionally, we were unable to use the bunkhouse due to no response from the number provided. Other reviews also mentioned that the bunkhouse had a potent urine smell from rodents, therefore we probably would not have used it either way.The health concerns posed by the rodent infestation are overwhelming and unacceptable. I have always booked through Recreation.gov and have never encountered such issues at any other cabins. I hope the management takes immediate action to address this problem, as it has the potential to ruin what could be a wonderful experience.

A really nice cabin with everything you need, including killer views of the Meadow and distant mountains.

Well equipped kitchen. Bunkbeds were very comfortable. During summer months bring an extra sheet to hang onto moulding of entryway in order to block the sun from coming into the kitchen. This will help keep the cabin cooler. There was salt and pepper. You may want to bring along lawn chairs if you want a campfire. If you are addicted to your devices this might not be a good place for you. (We have T-mobile.) If you don't know whether you are addicted to your devices, this is the perfect place to find out if you are. There are plenty of board games for guests to enjoy. It's about an hour and a half drive to get to the Grand Canyon south entrance.Almost all windows are in need of screen replacements. The cabin could use a thorough cleaning (windows and sills). I cleaned them myself this time, because I like clean windows. Otherwise, the cabin was acceptable for overall cleanliness. Overall, we had a very nice stay.

Weve stayed in 3 for forest service cabins now and this one was the best equipped the cleanest in terms or usable kitchen items i.e. pots pans, kitchen utensils, etc. and in the best condition over all. Unfortunately we were unable to use the bunk house we rented in conjunction since the smell of rodent urine was overwhelming. After two days of airing it out with fans a the 2 windows we could get to open it was bearable but at that point we had learned to survive in the main house and did not use it as our group size permitted this. The urine smell is present in the main house to a lesser degree as well but one gets use to it quickly. Ground squirrels live under both houses. I get this is a wild place but this should be addressed as we would find fresh squirrel feces on the cooking stove daily. We enjoy these cabins but at the rates that are being charged more should be done to control rodents in the cabins.

We've stayed here a few times and always love it. Not as much wildlife as in the past. The prairie dog village in the pasture is gone. We didn't see badgers, foxes, coyotes, or eagles that used to prey on the prairie dogs. No elk this time. So, to my only complaint...raising the price to $165/night from $100/night feels excessive, especially since no improvements were made, except the new "outhouse" that I never use.

Enjoyed our stay here! On par with expectations for a simple cabin. Staff were communicative. Within reasonable distance of Flagstaff. Great place for birdwatching. Be sure to put away all of your food into the fridge to avoid any critters getting into it!

It’s one of our favorite escapes. We love how remote it feels, the beautiful meadows and lack of internet service. Makes for a very relaxing getaway.

Had a good time. Visited Sunset and Meteor Craters. Both in thier own way are a spectacular visit. Kayak the Colorado through Horseshoe Bend. Stood on the Corner also.

We had a wonderful time enjoying nature in the retired Forest Service Cabin in the woods. It was nearly as we remembered it 20 years ago. We wrote a long & detailed review, but this website requested us to “log in” again and our beautiful review was wiped out…. So in a nutshell, all is quite good! We hope to return again some day! Bye bye for now.

We stayed 2 nights at the end of year 22 and truly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean. Hot water was great. The heater works well. Firewood was provided for free. We had a good amount of snow which made our stay even better. You should bring a snow chain if you visit the cabin during the winter season. The main road will be maintained so you may not need a snow chain. However, the access from the main road to the cabin is not maintained so if you do not have a chain that could be an issue. Internet is not available (which means that the cabin is in a quite remote location. Grand canyon is not far. We will come back later. My kids loved the entire experience that the cabin provided.

The cabin was easy to find. There was plenty of parking. The area surrounding the cabin is beautiful and was quiet for us. It was much cleaner than expected. A couple of field mice were dead in traps in the kitchen. No surprise there. There was plenty of firewood. We brought sleeping bags and just slept on top of the mattresses. Central heating was available. The shower was probably the most disappointing. The water drained very slowly so you ended up standing in a few inches of water. We spent time at the Grand Canyon and Williams. South rim visitor center is about 1 1/2 hrs drive from the cabin. Overall, great experience and we would stay there again.

The main cabin has two separate bedrooms. One with two sets of twin bunkbeds, the other has a queen size futon with one set of twin bunkbeds and a wood burning stove. The living room has one futon. With the potential of many people at the facility if the bunkhouse is also rented, there is a pit toilet a bit away from the cabins. There is a prairie dog town out in the meadow and every evening a cacophony of coyotes. Also meadow larks could be heard.

Beautiful area. It was winter with small amount of snow on ground. I expected the road to be closed but it was not. Not very clean but I anticipated that would be the case. I could make a phone call out. Difficulty sending text. Will stay again in the future.

Loved the location. It was easy to find. The drive in November (no recent rain or snow) was easy in a 4x2 truck. The cabin wasn't super clean, but we didn't expect it to be. The fridge, stove & heater all worked fine. We had no problem staying warm at all. We may stay in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin, although we had to clean twice. The people prior to us left the cabin only in a semi-clean state. Other than that, it was a lovely retreat to break away from our "electronic lives". No TV, no radio, and very little cell coverage, although we did get through enough. Cabin has typical kitchen supplies, but was surprised at no microwave...not that I use one, except to reheat coffee or water. Cabin is plenty warm with space heaters and fireplace. Items we should have brought to make life a little easier: blender, an axe (they don't supply one) and a chef's knife that's actually sharp. The axe would have helped to split the large wood pieces into smaller kindling. Items we did bring to make it a bit more enjoyable: Extension cord for more outdoor lighting at night, board games, and favorite book or magazines. There are two picnic tables available, and a long stretch of driveway if you're target practicing with a bow or blowgun.

I Couldn't ask for more. The prices are affordable and you have everything you need. You do not need to spend lots of money to have a day full of activities with your family. The only thing they changed is the minimum night from one to two, and that makes it more difficult for us in our budget. Wish we could get it for only one day like before.

We go to Spring Valley Cabin every year in October for our annual squirrel hunting trip. We love this cabin, and it accommodates our 7 plus family perfectly. We always rent the bunkhouse and my kids love playing school inside it. I would highly recommend this cabin! My only regret is that it is so close to the road and whenever a vehicle passes by, we get blanketed with a layer of fine white dust. October is an awesome time to go, it's not too hot, or too cold and sometimes it rains so the dust is controlled. This is an awesome cabin and we will continue to rent it for years to come.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
