Mcgee Creek Campground, Mammoth Lakes, CA

Mcgee Creek Campground is located in the White Mountain Ranger District, Inyo National Forest (4 hrs 33 min northeast of Clovis, CA) with an elevation of 7,547 feet. There are a total of 28 campsites. The campground is normally open from mid April to the end of October. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 16 and 35 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. There is a fee of $27.00 per night. Activities include fishing, horseback riding, hiking trails.

Great spot. Quiet, clean, and open. Perfect for camping during fall weather. They need to update the amenities for this campground. It has 6 flush toilets and water access.

One of the best camp areas in the e. Sierra. Cozy and comfortable. Great hiking. Be advised no potable water out of the spigot.

The campground overall was very nice but camp management lacks most management skills that are required for the job. We made our reservations for site #26 in advance on line and paid for # 26 for its the site we wanted. Upon arrival we passed by the camp management site. No one around. We went to #26. The site we reserved and paid for. Parked our 23ft trailer. Levelled it and unhooked from it. Then camp management showed up and told us there wont enough room for us. He was worried that there would not be room for other campers. We didn't take more tan half the parking apron . #26 apron is designed and designated for 2 campsites. We we're force to move to site 18 on the side of the hill away from the creek. Hooking back up. Moved and did it all over again. We were there fist there and did not intend to or did we take more than half the apron. Camp management offered no help nor did we see him again. Don' pick site #26 if you want your own parking apron. Thank you Gary Layton

Easy highway access; good trail access up the road. Beautiful spot. When campground is full, bit difficult of a bathroom situation - there is only one station- and constant lines for two hours in the morning. All sites are good sites.

Needs more details about camp, each camp site more pictures, better detail about parking. We got yelled at for parking because we had a trailer and not enough room next to it because it was reserved for another party next to us, who never showed.Bathrooms are very clean, just needs soap in there.

We love this spot: its nestled into a high desert meadow with beautiful plants. The campground is clean, quiet, and remote. Without light pollution, it has excellent star viewing on a clear night. There are gorgeous views of mountains on one side & the valley floor on the other side. Having McGee Creek slice through the aspen on the edge of the campground is a bonus. If you want to ride horses, McGee Pack Station is up the valley. The host keeps the place super clean. The bathrooms are the cleanest weve seen at a recreation.gov campground. This campground is perfect for conscientious campers, who appreciate natural beauty, serenity and quietness away from the bustle of roads & towns. Having said that, its also just 10 minutes from Crowley Lake General Store & 20 minutes from Mammoth.

We stayed at site #28 and it was a great site that backed up to trees with the creek (hidden) behind. All the sites except for the middle two in the center of the campground seemed to afford a good bit of privacy--although there are no trees between to provide privacy the sites are well spaced out. I think all the outer ring sites have a great view. The bathrooms were super clean and were individual with a sink and toilet for each of the six. We loved how quiet it was.

McGee Creek is a beautiful campground. Restroom are clean. Quiet and peaceful all day long. You can also hear the little creek flowing at night. The host is very helpful everytime am there. Awesome views of the mountains. Love it there!

Very clean and quiet but the road from the 395 into camp needs to be repaired. It has a couple massive potholes.

This was my 22nd annual September Sierra trip. It all started in 2001 as a 7-day backpack. We started using mules in 2013, and got smoked out in 2020. Last two years have been car camps at McGee Creek CG. Fine campground, roomy campsites, flush-toilet restrooms.

Lovely campground with nicely spaced camp pads and sunshades over the picnic tables for hot days. Bathrooms even have running water here.
