EXCELLENT spot. This specific campsite was a little small (2 and 4 seemed to be more spacious), but totally worked. Firewood is available for sale at the caretaker's trailer. We had purchased in town, but would probably buy at the camp next time.

Pros: great campsite, beautiful setting, good space between sites, well maintained Cons: campers letting their dogs run off leash!

Wonderful CG with really nice sites right on the creek. We were there in October and it was beautiful. Not crowded at all. Sites in the middle have no shade so be careful. In the summer theyre probably very hot. James the host was FANTASTIC!

Beautiful campground, greatly located if you want to hike the big pine lakes. Be careful, some sites have very little room to pitch a tent though. We had two tents and barely found space for them on site 6.

We stayed in site 16, along the river. It was fantastic. I really dont want to publicize this, but sites 17 and 18 are premium sites. There was no host during our stay, late sept early oct, but there was a host that came down from the campground above us ( big pine creek campground). This campground is great, it has water and a nice trail right next to the river. Interesting that the area including this campground experienced snow related avalanches during the winter of 22/23. Several large pines were knocked down from south to north, laying across the river, but miraculously the campground was not effected. The reservation system is interesting, seems that quite a few folks make reservations, but dont show and dont cancel.

Campground area was relatively quite. Campsites have a good distance between them. Lots of nice trees provide shade for most of the sites. Bathrooms were clean and relatively modern. Would stay there again.

Trees! After being in the desert for as long as I have, it was wonderful being surrounded by trees again! It was an amazing camp site, with more room than I was expecting with the parking space, picnic bench, fire pit, and an obvious space for pitching a tent! It wasn't overly crowded, either and I loved how it was right next to a creek, which was still quite full considering the time of year. I definitely see myself returning to this site when in the area!

We absolutely LOVE this campground. We're normally camping in the Sequoias but it seems as of late you can not find any available camp sites and it's just over crowded. My husband wanted to camp somewhere we've never been and explore. I happen to stumble upon this campground with availability. We booked it unsure if we were going to like it. We did! We were at site #10. It was next to the river and bridge. So peaceful & calming at night. Overall, the campground & bathrooms was very clean. Quiet and not a lot of people. Would recommend! My family and I will be returning next summer for our annual family camping trip.

Well maintained, clearly marked pitches, toilets were clean, pitch was raked and campsite was very clean.

A beautiful campground and bathrooms were very clean. I'm always impressed when the campsites are racked, I think it shows the camp hosts really care about the campground and the people who are going to be enjoying it.

This was my first visit to Upper Sage Flat Campground. I like this place. In May, the river had lots of water. The campground is very clean. The host (Gavin) literally raked each campsite, picking up the trash, as it was vacated. Gavin was super helpful with hiking information.I will definitely go back.

I came on opening weekend in April. I was at SITE 6 , You get partial shade in the afternoon but the morning can be warm. I would bring some sort of shelter or EZup if able. You have direct access to the river which provides you with water if you want to filter your water from the lake (best to bring your own you never know what folks are doing upstream.) The camp manager was amazing. He was informative and on the spot with management. If you have a pop up trailer / overland type it was a little tricky as I backed up and opened my tent towards driver side but I was able to manage well. Plenty of space for two mid size trucks if you really needed. Would choose this spot again.

Near big pine lake trail, so its a easy walk to the trail head. Sites are a little rugged but are just fine.

Upper Sage Flat campground was wonderful! Very, Very Beautiful with Big Pine Creek right next to campsite. Clean campground with well spread out sites. 1/2 mile from the trail head to Big Pine Lakes. Will definitely stay here again.

Following observations may sound petty however, Restrooms were not as clean as 2022 and 2023. Camp water faucets were broken.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
