This is a beautiful campground, and the hosts took excellent care of it. The pit toilets always smelled clean, and were probably the best pit toilets that I've ever used. Each campsite was raked clean before arrival. The campground itself is really nice, with half the sites located adjacent to the creek. We stayed at site #16, and fit a small popup trailer and two vehicles in it. It was peaceful and barely occupied during our stay in mid-October.

Such an amazing peaceful place to get away and enjoy nature.

Neighbors were respectful and quiet during reasonable times, camp host was helpful when I had questions about fishing, there was plenty of firewood to buy from the camp host ($10), potable water was easily assessible, and the creek running along the campsites was a nice touch. #15 was exposed but luckily, my immediate neighbor (two people) had an RV and mostly stayed in there when I was outside. The only downside is the vault toilets, but just be prepared. The campground is a mile walk away from the Big Pine Creek trailhead so although I kind of dreaded walking a slight uphill to the trailhead, it was nice to not have to deal with parking since it's a busy trail.3No reception, which was great. Satellite texts do work, though.

The site facility is very nice and clean and the location is very close to Big Pine Lake trailhead. Campsite is a bit small (I camped on #9 and it's only enough for one tent - but work for me!). Love the creek sound...and nice clear sky. I will definitely be back here.

Have been camping in Upper Sage Campground for 30 years. Enjoy the quiet solitude with no cell phone coverage. Fishing, hiking and and in the Fall beautiful color.

We have been camping at upper sage campground for 30 years, but an absence of the last five years due to Covid and the destructive storm that campground, we returned very nice spot in the hosts (Kim and wife) very accommodating and hard-working. I really appreciate all their help when we needed it.

Campground Hosts, Kim and Lynda take amazing care of the campground and each site. Raking, brushing, scrubbing and washing tables and bear lockers, cleaning out campfire pits, etc.. Weve been coming here for decades and theres never been such attention given to these campgrounds. They work hard to keep the campgrounds clean, well maintained and beautiful. They deserve a raise!!

This campground is very close to Big Pine Campground and to the trailhead. It has beautiful sites, stream with a bridge in the campground, and good space for each site. Managers are very kind, they stopped by to chat and gave me an extra blanket for a cold night. Would go back again.

This campsite is spacious and creekside - absolutely amazing! The whitewater acts like a sound machine, drowning out any noises from neighbors. Super convenient location for the Big Pine lakes trail. Note that there are only pit toilets here, not flush toilets. The toilets were clean and relatively odor-free!

I'd like to commend the camp host at Upper Sage Flat. He does an excellent job taking care of Upper and Sage Flat campgrounds. He (and his faithful dog) were on the job.

A nice clean campground. Directional signage could be improved. Was only there about 10 hours however as I had travel plans.

Great experience. Our camp site is right next to the big pine creek. The sound from the creek was great to listen to trying to fall asleep, helps with my husband's insomnia. The camp ground is clean and close to the big pine creek trailhead.

Camping next to the creek was great.

The campground itself was fantastic - and the camp host was great. - He offered to exchange our site with one in the lower campground if we could not get level (I think he was amazed we did eventually), and had a wealth of knowledge about the area. Very nice man. The. campground itself is in very good shape and the bathrooms were kept clean. Note this site (see accessibility) is horrible for longer rigs.

The camp hosts get a Five Star rating! They are always out cleaning up the sites, after campers move out. They keep the place very clean and provide great information on the surrounding area. The reason for the low score is due to the mice. I had mice get into my trailer and then I got traps. I got nine mice in four days. I actually left early due to the mice. They just kept coming. After talking with several folks in different areas, I was told the mice issue is all along the Eastern Sierra Range. I stayed in several campgrounds, but had the same issue. I took all the necessary steps with traps, peppermint oil, and spray foamed my underbelly to fill the small openings. They just kept coming. Upper Sage Flats is a great campground and I hope to return with less mice issues.

Nice campsite, convenient location, very nice campsite manager & host.

The campground is always clean, including the bathrooms. However, the last couple of years the fishing has been quite poor. This year in particular, nobody in our group was able to catch one at or down the hill from the campground, let alone see hardly any. It makes it difficult to accept the $62 annual fishing license fee when it seems like little to no stocking is taking place.
@GregM1251637 · Camped on Jul 20, 2025 at Campsite #15
Hosts were very rude and yelled at you if they thought you were not following their rules. Bathrooms were only checked every other day and never actually cleaned. Trash emptied and TP added. Other campers were very friendly. Sites have plenty of room and are cleaned when a new reservation begins.

Campsite was great the bathrooms were clean. A great experience

Site 9 had absolutely no trees or any shade. Totally exposed. We ended up paying for FF site at Big Pine Creek CG. So I ended up spending twice the money.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
