I guess if you camp next to a wildlife refuge next to the Mississippi, you better be prepared for Mosquitoes. They were very hungry at night and took a few sips of my blood. Otherwise Camp was good. Drove over to IOWA a few times for supplies and site seeing. Area sure has a good supply of Poison Ivy.

Nearby camper with barking dogs! Why do people not control dog noise? Leave dogs out front of campsite to bark at everything and everybody!We finally called DNR to come talk to them, Its a shame , we noticed this in more and more campgrounds.

Didnt get to camp there due to campground closure because of rising Mississippi water levels. Thomson Causeway notified us 1 day before we were to arrive. They were very apologetic about the closure and refunded our camping fees.

Sites are small. Lots of traffic and the mosquitoes are vicious

Nice quiet campground. Bathrooms were ok, they do the job. We drove with the bikes to the nearby village Thomson. The ride was fun and we felt secure on the way. Our side #4 was pretty leveled.

Nice place, quiet and sites are pretty big. I wanted to fish but can't even get line in the water! NOTHING BUT LILYPADS.

While concrete is nice the design of the pad had to be done by a non camper. First the pad width was cut down by probably 4 feet so if you have a side door to the front of your trailer ,exiting is very carefull due to lack of a solid spot to step. Second there is no room for a picnic table and chairs on the concrete pad , and it is one or the other. Third who ever decided to put a fire pit in a hole was not too smart , you have to put your foot in the space that is left around the fire ring , a definite trip / accident hazard . Fill in the fire pit hole with gravel and put the ring on top. Add gravel so you can move the picnic table to have more room , this site used to be a favorite one , not no more. New and improved , not!

great view of the Mississippi River -- forested trails -- 50 plus bike path -- good camp sites -- friendly

Beautiful site, excellent price, thoroughly satisfied. 2 stormy periods when the ranger came thru with his lights flashing and speaker telling us of weather warnings (winds and tornadoes). Excellent service.

We have stayed at several COE parks, Thomson Causeway Recreation Area is one of the nicest. Our site had a great view of the Mississippi River. The site was concrete with asphalt roads throughout the park. It appears that all sites are 50amp with water. You should come to this park with your Black and Gray tanks empty or dump at one of the four dump stations on your way in. There are two restroom shower facilities in the park along with a couple of rustic restrooms. This park is perfect for a scenic walk or bicycling for exercise. There is a paved bicycle trail that goes by the park if you want to go longer distance. We would stay again if in the area.

One of the best parks in Illinois, always a great getaway.

I'm so happy that the upgrade was made, and water was added to almost every site. I'm hoping that when the Riverbirch loop is worked on this season that water is added to those sites as well. Otherwise, the Causeway is THE best camping site on the Missy with the best access to the amazing bike trail.

Everything went well except the electric did not work on the first site we tried so we move over one.

It was the perfect time to be at Thomson Causeway - the weather was perfect and we really enjoyed the eagles, the geese and their babies - all the varied wildlife.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
