Very clean bathrooms! Sites are kinda small and close together, and many had no views when the trees are leafed out, but the shade was welcomed. Even on the holiday weekend patrons were not particularly rowdy and once the weekend crowds cleared out, it was even more delightful. Unfortunately the trail description for the Thomas Creek Canyon hike was misleading it indicated only 500 of elevation gain to the cirque, whereas the actual gain is more like 1200. The hike was definitely worth it to us regardless, but Im sure there are folks who might be better served to know the truth of what kind of exertion to expect so they can plan their days activities accordingly.

Wonderful campground with the river running right through it. Some sites are incredible others average. Campground host is grumpy and unhelpful.

Very nice, well maintained camp. Site 9A was nice but a bit too close to the restroom. Camp sites 22 and higher are closer to the water and may be more desirable. I would definitely camp here again.

My husband and I LOVE this campground. We've been every August for the last three years. It's perfect for our needs; quiet, secluded, and beautiful. The bathrooms are clean, the setting sublime, and the camp hosts have always been friendly. We try to stay in site 33 which is at the beginning of the Thomas Creek Trail making it most convenient to head out on a hike. When it's time to pull up stakes, we always drive into the Lamoille Canyon to its end to take in the last views of breathtaking scenery before heading home.

Beautiful and very well-kept campground. The hike up Thomas Canyon Trail is most spectacular and should not be missed.

The Ruby mountains are so pretty and lush in early summer.. We were wishing we had our screen shelter as the bugs were out.. Not a lot of them but a few mosquitos, a few biting flies.. It was still very green with water flowing by our campsite. The bathrooms were clean.. so nice to that there wasnt footprints on the toilet seats and paper on the floor.. The dumpsters were not overflowing, fellow campers seemed friendly and considerate of others.. Just a pleasant, relaxing stay.. Hopefully we have more time to hike next time there.. Though relaxing by the river wasnt to tough.. As a plus, as someone that spends a lot of time in the eastern sierra,, its was nice to not have to deal with bears in camp

My favorite campground. It has everything I need - clean pit toilets, water spigots, NO cell service, gorgeous mountains, and a creek with trout in it. Elevation-wise it's one of the "coolest" campgrounds in NV. Hiking trails abound. I can beat my legs up by riding my bike up to the top of the road. No ATV traffic. A grocery store is 30 minutes away if necessary. Generally courteous co-campers. Usually not too much generator noise. Best 2 weeks of my summer.

First, the Ruby Mountians are a true beauty with great hiking and scenery. Overall the campground is quite nice. However, site 6 is not all that desirable for a handicapped person or anyone else. It's a handicapped site with no shade from 1-4:30pm, no tent pad...handicap people can use tents, the fire pit is stuck in the corner such that at most two people could sit by it and the picnic table is not handicap accessible on the left end while the right end is near the fire pit.

This was our first time visiting the Ruby Mountains and Lamoille Canyon in N. Nevada. There are two campgrounds in this section of the Ruby Mountains - the main one (and only one open at the end of June) is Thomas Canyon Campground, about a 45 minute drive from Elko. It is a hidden gem - a smallish campground with secluded, campsites, many of them situated along Thomas Creek or its tributary creeks. The beautiful canyon walls and cliffs loom above the campground and the sunset, alpen glow on the high peaks are nothing less than stunning. We spent three enjoyable nights/two and half days at Thomas Canyon Campground. On our first morning, we hiked to Lamoille Lake on the stock trail (may be difficult for some hikers due to the multiple stream crossings and in late June, some snow fields). On our second morning, we hiked the easier trail to Island Lake, hoping to spot the elusive Himalayan Snowcock despite our late start. Both hikes are short ( a mile and half each way) but with considerable elevation gain (being acclimated to the higher elevations here is helpful). These glacier-carved small lakes above 8,000 feet elevations are scenic and well worth the effort. And, if one is familiar with any of the steep, switch-back trails on the flanks of the eastern Sierra Nevada, the Island Lake Trail at least is relatively easy in comparison.We experienced thunder and lightning storms two of the three nights during our visit. Two locals we encountered on our hike to Island Lake commented that such rain events were a bit unusual. Fortunately, the days were sunny and not too hot during our stay. One other factoid that might be surprising to some - there are no bears in the Ruby Mountains, or so we were told by others. Bears inhabiting areas to the north or south would have to cross large expanses of the Great Basin desert to get here without any appreciable sources of food. Hence, no need for storing food in bear lockers!

Beautiful location, campsite on creek. Clean facilities. No cell reception, but I saw that as a win. Hiking trailhead located within campground, plus multiple other hikes a short distance (drive) away.

Absolutely love Lamoille Canyon and the Ruby Mountains! Campsite is beautiful and close to trails! Love hearing the stream flow at night. Drinking water is clean and very accessible.

By far the prettiest and best campground I've been to in a very long time. Awesome spot.

there needs to be more information about the size of the RV spaces. Even though we picked one that was allegedly the right length according to the map, it was impossible to back our trailer into it be cause of the approach angle of the campground road and the bushes.

Beautiful campground with sites oriented towards the river and the cathedral peaks. We will be back!

I was amazed in the Thomas canyon, beautiful, remote mountains with a lot of hiking trails. The campground was clean, we had good luck: our neighbors were quiet, the stay was very enjoyable. No cell service ( AT&T and T-mobile), no WiFi.
@BarbaraJ861939 · Camped on May 28, 2024 at Campsite #19
unfortunately the combination of a fire few years ago (and many downed trees) and recent a avalanche left the sits with virtually no place to set up a tent. Fine for RV 'camping', but at this point, not tent campingnin many sites around the camprgound.

For sheer natural beauty Thomas Canyon cant be beat. The canyon walls on either side of you are breathtaking. The Thomas Canyon Trail is a nice intermediate route with lots to see and the trailhead is conveniently located at the campground. Camp sites have more concrete than I prefer but are reasonably isolated from neighboring sites. Nice white noise from the nearby rushing creek makes for an easy nights sleep. Vault toilets needed a bit of TLC but overall nice experience!

Our stay was good and beautiful as always however many people who had made and paid for reservations months ago weren't able to use their spots because there was no camp host to insure the spots reserved were vacated by 12 for their reserved stay.

Thomas Canyon is a beautiful campground with the sites nicely separated by lush vegetation. The hiking trail that starts at the campground takes you to beautiful waterfalls and beaver ponds. Wonderful location in Lamoille Canyon!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
