My favorite campground for many years..Sites have a decent amount of privacy with most lots being wooded, except Twin Springs loop. Twin springs loop has a gorgeous view of Little Bay De Noc. There are a lot of trees that could be cleaned up to allow easier backing in of a camper to the sites. Bathrooms are brand new for 2024, they are outhouses. This is a non electric campground. The Oaks loop does not have easy access to the beach, there is a set of stairs that lead down a steep hill to a trail to get to it.

We have visited this NF Campground several times now. Sites are well spaced out, some have paths to the water. Several hiking trails in the area, and accross the bay Gladstone and Escanomba. Nice place to relax too.

Fantastic campground! Very well maintained. Brand new pit toilets (summer 2024). Paved campground roads are great for biking with kids. Beautiful sandy beach is great for swimming. Definitely one of the nicest rustic campgrounds I've ever been to!

Large site with direct access to the bay. Quiet and peaceful.

The perfect site - I hope to go back many times. No dump for RV or water hose (so be prepared) but that will NOT stop you from having the BEST time at this campground. We have solar and our site worked perfectly - other campers had generators.

The remnants of one of the vault toilets were blocking our site when we arrived. We sought out the host (last site in Twin Springs loop) and he kindly pointed us to the site he had reserved for us instead. New toilets are very nice. In the past we have camped here over Memorial Day weekend but this year was one week later. There have never been as many mosquitoes as there were this year. Hopefully they've settled down since. Not much for black flies while we were there so that helped. Stonington Point lighthouse is nice to visit and was a welcome break from the bugs this year.

We stayed at group site 16 with friends. The weather was not good the first night but the next day was great weather. I like the bigger fire ring and we sat by the fire all night the first night. The next morning after breakfast we walked the Maywood trail and it was really nice. Enjoyed the information boards on the trail giving some of the history also. Very large hemlock trees on the trail. We then went to the different beaches on the peninsula. Spent the night with visitors and a beautiful fire again. Very relaxed. A couple of owls were making a lot of noise for about 15 minutes. Must of been a family disagreement. Recommend you face your RV doors away from the lake, cause if the North wind picks up its more difficult.

Was able to adjust dates of arrival, to maximize best weather, but still had rough start campers should be sure to prepare for extreme changes.

I had a site that was right on the water and it was fabulous! It was a very peaceful place to stay and the sunsets were gorgeous. The Bayside Trail was a pleasant walk by the water and through the woods.

Campground is beautiful and the views of the water are great. Our site had a nice flat spot for the camper, great access to the water and a nice picnic table. This park is now managed by vista rec instead of the federal rangers. Im not a fan of vista rec as we ran into problems at this site and Vista rec was impossible to contact. We ended up leaving a voicemail and they called back a day later.

Beautiful campground. Toilets were pretty clean. Other than the noisy neighbors whose dog was running around and a couple generators running at other sites, it was great. We would camp there again.

Last year I would have given this a five-star review. This year, there was a new sheriff in town...aka, a campground host who is a stickler for the rules. Instead of approaching our site from the street, she came in through the brush from another site. My canine good citizen, and former service dog (health issues have forced us to get a new pup to take over that job), alerted me by barking. A very uncharacteristic behavior used only when he feels there is something to be concerned about. Now mind you, because he is a highly trained animal, we generally do not leash him on the site. Always when leaving the site, but not usually on the site. That way he is still available to help me up off the ground if I fall. However, she demanded we leash both our dogs. N She complained about the way we leashed the animals: on a 5-ft leash, attached to a runner with pulleys. That way they get the exercise and enjoy the trip as much as we do. It is the reason we seek out large national forest sites. But the tree we had it connected to apparently crossed a path we were unaware of. Not many people use it, but she demanded we shorten the run. When we did, it was too short to do any good. Then she complained that our generator cord crossed that same path. It is a very thick yellow cord that is clearly visible, but she was worried about a trip hazard. The only other place we could safely place the generator was close to both our site and the one next door. Not enjoyable for either of us, but necessary. So after a few days of listening to the generator and untangling the dogs from everything on the site, we decided to pack it up and go home. Fortunately, recreation.gov gave me a refund for the two days we did not use. We won't be returning to this site as long as that particular campground host is there. We have been at numerous National Forest sites all over the USA and have never encountered anyone complaining about how we camp or how our dogs behave. Not once in 15 years!

Around midnight on my first night there some exceptionally loud music started playing that went on and on. And the loud awful music started again even earlier the next night. My neighbors stated they tried to go to the camp host site but got no answer. I know this is a rustic site within the National Forest but there should be someone or some way that campers can report such disturbances too. I didn’t get much sleep while there because of this matter.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
