"Private beach" was fun. A short backpack from the ferry was easy. After normal quiet wilderness experiences in recent years, the south side of Grand Island was noisy. Motorcycle revving, trucks in low gear, and a beach bar on Saturday night all created a lot of noise during the day and well into the night.

Island is great. Biked around. Stayed at Channel Marker. Forest Service guy was great and helpful. Pointed us to firewood.Only downside were previous campers could have done a better job. Fresh blood on camp bench. Smoldering coals that ignited paper. Lots of micro trash.Beach is great for post bike swim and chill. And caught a beautiful moon set at 6AM.

You need to be prepare for lots of mosquitoes (like all Grand Island), this spot specially is really nice, close to the harbor with access to a beach. Really nice!

Well secluded, although foot/ bike traffic on west rim trail can be high, but Campsite is far enough off trail ,no problem. Had a bear walk up path to visit for coffee one morning, but able to chase it off.

Campsite is just under a half mile hike from the ferry, easy enough to carry things there if you can't take your entire campsite around the island with you. Easy access to the West Rim Trail which leads to some pretty cool cliffs in around 2 miles.

We had a wonderful time on Grand Island! The short hike to Channel Marker campground was convenient and we enjoyed the beach access directly across the trail. Be mindful of trees when placing your tent as we did notice a large birch close to falling right on top of the tent clearing. Definitely suggest mosquito nets and bug spray.

Beautiful island, great hiking on the loop trail, good campsite (Channel Marker, a short walk from ferry landing.) End of June - no black flies, but a lot of mosquitos. Make sure you are using bear pole; the bear box below didn't have lock. Check with rangers about the nearest firewood pickup place. Somewhere near the landing, I believe. We somehow missed it, had to to cut more of our own, though it was plenty of it around the campsite.

Ferry fee is not cheap and waters can be too rough for kayaking so be sure you have everything you need and plan accordingly. the site was great, the grill rack on the fire pit was so convienient for cooking. WE HAD A BEAR VISIT OUR SITE. was awakened in the middle of the night hearing it try to get into out food locker. it was unsuccessful but left us with some cool paw prints on the locker!!....I would highly recommend this site for greener campers as it is not too far of a hike from the ferry. the site is far enough off the water that the trees protect you from winds. we will be camping here again soon!

We loved the ease to get to it, the close proximity to the water and the quiet. It was so beautifully quiet without feeling scary remote. There is a bear pole and a locker. Firewood is scarce in that area though. We had a wonderful time!

The first campsite less than a mile in the west loop hike. Nice campsite with a nearby beach! Bring bug spray :)

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
