R Shaefer Heard Campground in Troup county is located 44 min northeast of Auburn, AL with an elevation of 698 feet. There are a total of 117 campsites. The campground is open all year. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 25 and 107 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. All sites have electric and water hookups. Fees range from $34.00 to $68.00. Some amenities include shower, dump station, laundry facility, playground, boat ramp, swimming, amphitheater, flush toilets. Activities include boating, fishing, hiking trails, floating sports.

Eventhough the lake was low we assumed it could be due to the recent storms. Park was clean and quiet.

This is a nice campground, not too far off the highway. Unfortunately the lake was way down when we visited this time, but it is usually very scenic.Some of the sites on the points are a bit tight, but they are all spacious and easy to get into.The bathrooms are very run down. There aren't many either, so it can be quite a hike to a bathroom depending on your site. Bring shower shoes!

I had a beautiful lakeside site with direct access to the water. They were working on the boat launch so the water level was extremely low. I did not need to use the bathroom or bathhouse, but they are in need of renovation. The staff at the gatehouse was extremely friendly and outgoing. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that at 7:20 am the tree maintenance contractor started cutting down a tree right next to my site using chainsaws. It was extremely loud and extremely inconsiderate due to the early start. I don't know that the campground has any control over this. It took about 45 minutes to clear the tree and debris (using heavy equipment and loud blowers). When I spoke with the gatehouse they were not aware this was happening.

Beautiful setting full of serenity. The host were very warm and accommodating during our visit We definitely will be returning for a much longer stay next time for it is on our list of most favored places.

We have been to R. Schaefer Heard several times now and it is always a great experience. The campground is laid out well and the sties are clean and spacious. Beautiful lake settings as well.

Very nice secure campground. Clean well maintained grounds. Great place to ride bikes or hike. The host couple at the gate are so friendly and informative. Lots are spacious and most are near level at the point of dropping the camper.

Site 23 was clean when we arrived. Great waterfront site with plenty of trees between sites. Campground was quite the week we were there and beautiful camping weather.

Wonderful and very helpful checkin hosts. Beautiful campgrounds pretty much all w water view and level. Some have steep driveway but level concrete pads. Enjoyed the nice long trail hike through the woods. Lake level way down due to repairs so we were able to pick up tons of trash along shoreline.

Almost no cell phone reception or internet. That could be seen as good or bad. Would have been nice to know that the lake water level was really really low. Fishing was bad but otherwise very peaceful.

We loved this campground and hope to have many return visits. Lots of bike riding. Beautiful views from the sites. Plenty of room to spread out and not feel crowded.

There is not a whole lot around this campground. The closest "grocery store" is a Dollar General, which is a couple miles down the road. Legrange isn't too far. They have a few little restaurants, as well as a Bible Museum and an Art Museum. Calloway Gardens is also pretty close. The weekend we just hung out at the campground. We took a 3 mile walk around the grounds, played games and watched football.
