We really enjoyed Fashoda campground. The host was so helpful and the vault toilets were clean and well stocked. The only issue is I would advise people to either not choose site 5 or to be aware that campers in site 8 will cross directly through your campsite at all hours because the pathway from that site to the parking lot and additional bathroom around is far too long and people just dont use it.

Always the best time here. Water was nice and full, be going here almost yearly for 16 yrs. 1st time we ever had a bear go through our stuff. Which cut our trip a day short.

Our family has been coming to Fashoda for last 20 years every year around July 4th. And unfortunately to say this year has been the worse. And it's all because of the ranger or the host there. She was always under the influence, always has an open beer can in her car. She was extremely unprofessional, very rude and very aggressive. She was dropping f words in front on our children, screaming and constantly threating to kick us out. Even though we had a really nice and quiet group. At one time she came in at 10pm and tried to force us to all go into our tents even though we had no music playing and we were not loud at all. Another thing there was never any toilet paper and toilets were very dirty.

I give it only 3 stars because the camp host was not doing his job. All the bathrooms were out of toilet paper and were really dirty. Other than that everything was really good like always , we camp here every year and its always very nice place .

Wonderful experience! Stayed at campsite 13, lots of trees to set up guyline for our pup. Lots of space to set up and being so close to the water for afternoon dio was great! Wonderful hikes in the area that are dog friendly. Will return for sure! Especially mid week when things are quiet.

It was ok except that the showers were not working so we had to drive to another site to shower.toilet remains unflushable. Site would be great with flushable toilet. Love that site is walking distance to Lake.

The lake was beautiful- too bad about the litter that was left at our campsite.The trash bins were over flowing- so I guess people decided to throw trash at the sites!

Dumpsters overflowing and bathroom clean out smelled up the entire campground for an entire day. But it was an amazing trip for my family.

Be sure to be ready for numerous jet skis and music playing in the campground till all hours! Most campsites have 20-30 people cramped into them for a drunken revelry!

The campground itself is beautiful, the lake is just gorgeous. Unfortunately, the grounds this year were in pretty bad shape. The restrooms were not cleaned and were missing toilet paper a lot of times. Our site was not cleaned properly, even though we checked in way later than 2pm. We have been coming to this campground for the last 15 years, this is the dirtiest we have seen it. We will be there next year no matter what.

The campground is very close to Sacramento, the water level is high and the scenery is great. The only complaint I have is the bathroom situation. They desperately need to clean out the vault toilets. The very first weekend they were open and the toilets were full to the top.

Was ok, new host was learning how to take care of the sites. Overall good camp.

Only 3 of the 30 campsites were occupied coz we went just after Memorial day. Had a tranquil and relaxing time. Would definitely camp here again.

Campground was a lot cooler than the beach on a super hot weekend and nicely wooded. Love having beach access so close to our campground, and the water was perfect to swim in during such hot weather. But the toilets were horrible with hundreds of flies swarming around so we didn't use it much. Also the campsite had so many wasps that it was scary and stressful to eat and cook.

Fashoda may be the best campground I've stayed at! From the well shaded campground to the short 1 minute walk from campsite to Union lake with beach access, this place ticks many if not all the boxes. The vault tiolets and faucets are plentiful and well located. The pay showers are only a 2 minute walk. Cost is $3 for 3 minutes and  the machine will only accept quarters. The camp host are kind and very attentive and do a magnificent job of keeping the facility clean. They are also on top of noise issues, asking me if their were any noise issues from other campers at night and to let them know if there was. Two bonuses at Fashoda: 1. The beach access which offers great swimming and ability to launch our kayaks, canoe and paddle boards. The beach is located in a Cove so well protected from the wind and motor boats. 2. Cell reception is about 3 bars (on at&t and verizon), more than good enough to YouTube and work. My review covers two different stays. We camped at Fashoda June 20 and August 21. Both stays were for 3-4 nights. We stayed at campsites 9, 13 & 14. All sites were SPACIOUS but not very flat. Chances are your tent will be on a slope! Summary: This year was our first time staying at Fashoda. We chose Fashoda for its beach access for our boats and because our usual campground, Icehouse was still closed down for renovations from last year's fires. We also considered Sunset campground but decided against because it didn't have beach access.

Not a bad site we had but host was not good. We arrived at dusk got all set up had a fire ate dinner and went in our “roof top” tents and were woken up by the host at 1:30am by the host telling us we had to leave because we weren’t in ground tents. So we had to pack everything up and leave back to placerville. I booked this site months ago and it does not state anywhere that you can’t use rooftop tents. Very annoying.

One of the worst camping experiences ever. We had to leave after the first night because the campgrounds nearby us all had at 5-6 tents on each campsite, and large groups of adults and kids. We asked the camp host what was going on and they said that the guests insisted they had eight adults at one campsite and eight children and that they were allowed to have as many children as they wanted as children don’t count towards the maximum guest count. I’ve never heard that you can have as many children as you want every other campgrounds is six maximum regardless of age. It was very unpleasant to be camping next to huge groups of people that were together and had no respect for the campground. The trash is overflowing and these large groups had food out all night which of course caused the bear to come by. These guests spent most of the night banging pots and pans and slamming the door to the dumpster to try to scare away the Bears that they welcomed with their left out food. They also shined flashlights all night and we’re up until 2 AM partying. It’s very uncomfortable to camp you feel like there’s no one that is managing it and can’t control guests and you don’t feel safe. We left and talked to the Ranger at the information station who told us that the Fashoda and sunset were not the best places to camp because of the type of clientele visiting from the nearby cities who are not used to camping and even at times have been known to fire shotguns to try to scare bears because they leave food out. I would never go there again, although the area is beautiful and there’s other campgrounds that are much better. If you have a good campground host that can control the guests, that would make it a better experience. It was disrespectful to the campground to the other visitors and of course to the wild life that’s been invited into this area with reckless guests that leave out food and no supervision by camp staff.

The location and sites were amazing. The lake is my favorite. Unfortunately, the facilities(restrooms) were not as clean as they have been in the past. The toilet paper was not restocked in time. Still had a great time as usual, definitly coming back next year.

Stayed at site 22 it was a little slope but a nice site. Bathrooms were good for PIT toilets. Use your bear box they do get bears! We didn’t have any this trip but I put my food away. In a past trip we had one come to our site.

The camp host Brittany was wonderful. Checked in once or twice and wasn’t overly involved and micromanaging. The lake had a lot of water this time around so we were able to jetski. It was however pretty cold, especially at night. Other than that, we love this campground and come here yearly. It’s beautiful, simple, had running water.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
