We went up to see the site and loved it, sadly the Newberry and Mt Bachelor fires started up and made it too smoky to go.We love Little Crater area though and will try again

Area is clean, quiet, beautiful, and we'll managed by the hosts. Boat launches in excellent condition. Sites are good size, level and private.

We had 2 camp dates Aug 25-29 and 9/2. We stayed 8/25-27 and then left and went home because the experience was horrible. we have stayed here multiple times and this was the worst ever. We had our pontoon boat with us. The area that is designated for boat launching and PARKING is not being supervised and there were vehicles parked there that were using the area for kayak/paddle boards. it was a mess. We had to ask people to get the kayaks, some were young children that you couldn't see when you were back down, off the ramp so we could launch and it was an argument. THIS BOAT AREA NEEDS TO BE MORE CLEARLY MARKED THAT IT IS FOR BOATS ONLY. We shouldn't have to encounter that.The campground had an ATV speeding thru it with a young child, no helmet on. loud music from a campsite, that had so much pot being smoked we could smell it. Dogs barking continually. It was not the calm experience we hoped for. WE SPOKE WITH THE SHERIFF WHO WAS THERE THE DAY WE LEFT HE AGREED THAT MORE NEEDS DONE, AS THEY ARE TIRED OF HAVING TO RUN THEM OFF ALSO. FINES NEED TO BE ENFORCED. ALSO THE CAMP HOST WAS OFF ON MON/TUES SO EVERYONE JUST DID WHAT EVER THEY WANTED ON THOSE DAY...SOMEOME NEEDS TO BE THERE 24/7 TO CONTAIN THE ILLEGAL ACTIVITY. I WANT A FULL REFUND ....MY VACATION WAS COMPLETELY RUINED. WE DIDN'T EVEN RETURN FOR THE ONE ON 9/2

Lovely campground with everything you need. Hiked the loop counterclockwise and stopped for a dip in hot springs. Very peaceful, relaxing, not too crowded and clean. The camp host with helpful and attentive. I was at spot 38 which was right next to the bathroom and water so I pulled my car back into the space to block the view of the outhouse. Variety of spots open and a mix of either on the lake or near the trees. We visited The Obsidian Flow which is super close and highly recommend a stop there. Looking forward to a return visit in the future. Such lovely nature and medicine that I will hold in my heart as we go into fall. PS- super super cold at night so I recommend extra extra blankets and layers to stay warm.

Two or three large ponderosa pines had been cut down and just left on the campsite. What a mess! Hoping they will be removed eventually, because it only left a small area (by the road) to place our tent. The sites aren't very private and the camp hosts evidently don't enforce the quiet time rules as there were about 15 people in two sites across from us partying well into the night. :(

Another wonderful 4 night trip here. Stayed on site 42, there was a bit of an uneven curb to bump down from the camp road but manageable. We had amazing views and sunsets over the lake, lovely large site but no trees nearby for the hammock. The pit toilers were as clean as pit toilets can be!! It was a full campground as we drove in, which made the camp road narrow and a little tricky to pass other vehicles. We loved hiking and paddleboarding the lake. The hot springs are just hot dirt and water pits full of bugs but still worth a visit. I will always come back to this camp ground

We were bummed the campground was left a mess from the cut trees. Would of been nice to have the spots cleaned up.Also, it was high fire danger ( no campfire signs everywhere) we saw at least WOOD campfires every niteThe camp hosts were pretty much non existent.i did talk to a Ranger who advised me to tell the hosts. Idont usually complain but being from prineville when its red flag warning, no fires mean no fires. I get it ( non ember) fires are ok, but wood fires with sparks, come on!Out of staters of course, rules dont matter.Otherwise it was great weather, great fishing and great friends.

It was our first time camping here, we are local though and so excited to return! The campground was beautiful and the bathrooms were cleaner than any Ive ever used while camping! It was nice and quiet even though our site was near the boat dock. We had a small thunderstorm move through in the evening and the sunset was fantastic afterword. We would highly recommend camping here!

Favorite campground in central Oregon. Beautiful views, hiking, fishing etc.
@LindseyS0B1173 · Camped on Aug 2, 2024 at Campsite #24
We enjoyed our stay in spot 24! It is a pull through driveway so plenty of space for multiple cars. The site was pretty open with minimal trees so not a ton of shade but a beautiful view of the lake! The lake is down a short but steep embankment from the site so not the smoothest water access but very doable! Nice hiking trails accessible right from the campground.
@Nathaniel79287 · Camped on Jul 28, 2024 at Campsite #15
The lake was beautiful!Lots of interesting oddities; obsidian sand, hot springs, volcanic monument, etc.The camp hosts were completely unavailable with a sign that said "off duty" for our entire four day trip. I guess they must have been out in the lake fishing or something the entire time we were there. So don't expect the camp hosts to be helpful or even available.We had a wonderful time!

If the USFS must cut all the 100+ year old fir trees in this camp spot, at least move the giant logs out of the way to access the lake front! #10 used to be the best spot at Little Crater, now it's ruined :(

We love Little Crater, my only complaint is they need signage that stops hikers from parking in boat launch area. Very frustrating when putting our boat in the water and no place to park. Also hikers park in campsites when no one is there. There needs to be signs that they can't park there and then hike.

The only bad thing is the picnic tables need to be reworked or get new ones. There in very bad condition
@KelliF940C07C5 · Camped on Aug 14, 2023 at Campsite #49
The kiosk and camp host allowed another camper to book spot even though I had a reservation. So when I arrived it was occupied. The camp host was off duty until the next day so no one could help me and we just had to go home. The rangers said this happens all the time!! It actually happened to a friend of mine, but she was the kiosk purchaser. I am having trouble getting a refund!!! BEWARE they can take a reservation, they just hold the reservation.

The lake is nice. Lots of people around, though. It isn't unusual to setup your tent 20 feet from someone. Bathrooms are nice. Garbage is close by.

Campground is a good location for hiking around the lake, Little Crater trail and the Obsidian Flow. Lake is nice for paddle boarding when it isnt windy and if the motor boats arent making big wakes.
@JamiB4B58A7BC3 · Camped on Aug 1, 2023 at Campsite #38
Little Crater is our favorite campground and that hasnt changed. The only problem this time was the camp host was nowhere to be found, you never saw them, they didnt have any firewood so we had to drive all the way to LaPine for wood, The bathrooms needed attention. This campground is 5 star. The camp host gets 1 star.
@JoeC5097181 · Camped on Jul 27, 2023 at Campsite #12
The lake is amazing and so are the hikes and views. Bring things for the kids to do in the water as that will be the key to enjoying the campgrounds.
@RossL7158314 · Camped on Jul 23, 2023 at Campsite #9
very nice campground, great location. My problem is this is the second time this summer at fed campground with no firewood to buy, the host said she asked for delivery but got none, so bring a saw so you can go out to get your own.
@PattiF4586D40D · Camped on Jul 19, 2023 at Campsite #2
It's a lovely campground and wonderful lake for kayaking. One major hitch, online booking said #2 was a pull-through which is a must for this senior first time trailer owner.....it is NOT. Luckily, was able to flag someone down to help. Hope this gets changed on the website.

we were there for only one night, but during this time the only Park Service employee we saw was the one at the entry point.We didn't need any help, but others might have and it seems to me that such a busy park should have some sort of Park Service presence!Our campsite was fine, no complaints there. My major complaint is with your concessionaire. Why, for instance, can't they have more than 2 functioning washers and one functioning dryer in the laundry? PCT hikers come through in droves and expect to do laundry. They had their washed laundry draped all over the sidewalks outside the laundry due to the dryer issue. They were unhappy with the looooooong wait for a washer. I was at Crater Lake 4 years ago and the same situation was going on! FIX THE LAUNDRY ISSUES!!The employees in the store were not friendly. One reason may be that they are tired of making change for the showers and laundry. Why isn't there a change machine? Also, consider developing an area a short distance from the store/laundry for the PCT hikers to hang out. A few picnic tables, a pavilion for shade, a good water source. I am a backpacker and know the hiking culture but it doesn't mean I enjoy having to walk through hikers draped over every surface and sitting in the way. They are often not very friendly to those outside their cohort. I personally don't care about their drinking and smoking dope outside the store but families with children might.also, some trail signage would be nice. and get rid of those metal tunnels to access the bathroom. in the summer they get intolerably hot. while doing that, add some more bathrooms. everyone was having to wait for 15 minutes plus to pee!

Beautiful location. The view from the top of Paulina Peak is amazing also.
@RobertT9956944 · Camped on Jul 14, 2023 at Campsite #28
Great campsites along the eastern short of Paulina Lake. Restrooms were clean and spaced conveniently through the campground. Water and dishwater disposal traps were also convenient. Nice access to the Lake, Obsidian and Little Crater trails

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
