We were in 10 & 11, two families (one couple, one couple + kiddo) camping together, and they sites were so big we ended up sharing #11 and still had plenty of room. Its right off Twin Lakes road maybe 30-40 with some coverage but not enough to pee on that side during the day. Traffic noise wasnt too terrible, even on leaving day (we stayed a day later) but one guy did have to honk / brake due to some deer in the road and youll wanna make sure the pups dont go too far. The site stays cool under the trees with the breeze coming up from Wickiup, which is a short 3-4 min walk away to see some cool sunsets and a fogbow over Wickiup one crisp AM. Its deceiving tho bc its at least 10-15* more when you go to South Twin so it almost feels too cold to swim. Labor day weekend, we were the only ones in the upper area. I think everyone left bc of the rain. It rained only a little our second night and we were pretty protected by trees. We did get raided by chipmunks pretty bad when we left to the lake for a bit- lesson learned- and they kept the dogs alert, the younger one anxious. The coyotes woke us up first thing in the morning after our friends with the dogs left. The main restroom was fine, Ive seen worse. Found the other mens restroom had a flushing toilet and a handsink. Water was on when we were there. Camp firepits were decent and have a grate. It does have a picnic table. I would look for this site again for sure. Have fun!

Something to know before you go is: There is a dirt road between this campground's lakeside sites and channel. That road is technically available for "primitive camping" making it noisy and dusty at all hours of the night. We stayed in sites 22 and 23. On the other side of our sites is a space that could easily be used as a parking lot for day trippers, but this weekend was used by 4 trailers as a campsite. They ran their generators all night and played their music until 2:00 am. Because they were parked on the outside the campground, the noise rules of the campground don't apply. There were also constant dirt bikes, ATV's, and side-by-sides flying down that road...one even graced us with their LOUD exhaust at 3:00 am. Because the road is without rules and it is literally right up against the campground, we won't be back.

The campsite was pretty and the toilets were fine but there was no water and there were a number of people disperse camping by the water and they brought their atvs and boy did they have a fun time driving back and forth all night. Pack in your water. Bring your earplugs.

The water faucets were shut off. The only fresh water was at the resort near by. Also, the flush toilets were locked! You would expect these services would be available in June.

The campground was very nice and when I first arrived there was no one else there which I really liked. I only gave 3 stars because an older couple decided that out of the entire empty campground the site right next to mine was the best choice and could see every thing I was doing the whole entire time (no privacy). Also they were sleeping in their truck and the first night their car alarm went off 5 times. Other than that it was great. Although it didn’t seem like the bathrooms (pit toilets) were cleaned regularly and smelled quite bad.

We loved this campsite! The spot was pretty big!

Campsite was spacious and clean. Had obviously been cleared of downed pine cones, needles and branches-all the flammables. The location between the Deschutes River and South Twin Lake was awesome. The river attracted scores of varied waterfowl options including gorgeous snowy white pelicans w golden beaks, geese, gulls and who knows what else. My experience suffered because of extreme heat and we left early.

Every thing went fine. However, No potable water was available. Camp sites could have been better prepared. DANGER tree clean up not very well completed.

The garbage was semi kept on which isn’t the usual. Normally it’s overflowing. Every single day there was an issue with the bathrooms being clogged or overflowed. Or extremely dirty. The signs are falling apart that have been like that for years. Squirrels were also in the walls of the restrooms. Very poorly taken care of. No facility maintenance.

Most of the week went decent enough, even kept the fly off and was able to sleep looking at the stars. As a warning, the reservoir is completely drained, just a small, shallow river left, from what I was told due to selling off the water rights, meaning it's not coming back anytime soon. I'm talking the end of the docks that used to be underwater in the lake are now easily 10-20 feet above the current water level. We were hanging out at Twin Lakes thankfully which still have some water in them but it meant we saw a number of literal dust storms over the week and then during our last few days you didn't really notice the dust since the smoke from the wildfires was getting stronger. In addition, the last two nights, a party crew showed up in the next campsite that lit up their campsite(and ours) like it was daylight till well past midnight with a litany of LED torches and what not plus had a large fire going despite the fire ban. The worst part wasn't even the incredible noise of easily like 20+ people and kids in one campsite, it was that they constantly walked in front of their torches and so the lights that hit our tent kept going on and off, creating a strobe effect. Overall, definitely the worst campground I've been to. Never was great but afforded a place to stay if you couldn't get cabins at Twins Lakes but now it's tough to say if it's worth it given there won't be usable water levels anytime soon and as such, the dust is only going to get worse and worse. Also, the toilets stank to high heaven.

Lake/reservoir behind camp was completely drained for "irrigation". We unfortunately ended our trip a day early. Likely will not return.

Water level was at an historic low for June. Could not use the reservoir as I could not get that far down to water level with my kayak and gear (too steep). There was also a lot of alge in the water around the area I might have launched my boat from, if i could have gotten to it. The camp host did nothing to stop my fighting campground neighbors (thought they might kill each other). Or the super loud fireworks being set off. Or the 20 some children that screamed constantly for 2 to 3 days and and part of each night. Are all camp hosts this worthless???? I know most parants today do not teach their children any sense of reverence for nature, discipline, or respect for their fellow campers. But you would think the FS employees would try to enforce their own rules occasionally. Otherwise - it was a nice campground.....

AMAZING campground. Surrounded in the beautiful Deschutes national forest and several lakes. Best place we've been all summer!

No water in the reservoir; a notice when booking would be nice to include that water levels are low. I left and didn’t stay my whole trip; very disappointing.

Way too many people allowed to camp outside of campground. We had a group of 5 rvs right in the back of our site! We paid, they didnt. Not ok!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
