I've been coming to the Point for more than 20 years and this last time was disappointing because the only place to put our tent was between 2 huge RVs and we had to listen to generators all night. I miss the days of tent-only camping when we could watch the stars and listen to the sounds of nature.

Campground was poorly maintained, no toilet paper in the outhouse throughout the duration of our stay. Private management company is short staffed and very rude. Nobody was around to get the campers who overstayed their reservation out of our site on our check-in day, yet Vista Recreation showed up on our checkout date to hassle us about leaving before it was even noon. Did I mention them being rude? Vista Recreation also cancelled hundreds of reservations in June and even early July because they couldn't surge resources to get the campgrounds under their management open several weeks after the snow had melted, and shut them down in mid-September long before camping season is really over. Not nearly as well run as the Hoodoo managed campgrounds. The Point has great views of Mount Bachelor and Elk lake, but both mosquitos and camp robbers can be thick and you end up listening to highway noise all day and night. Glad we brought our own toilet solution. We ended up picking up a lot of trash in the campground left behind by other campers, and there were several off-leash dogs being set loose in the day-use boat launch area running up on and scaring our kids during the day. Water in Elk Lake is beautiful and we really enjoyed our time on the water, next time we'll probably try a different campground or just use day use access, like South Beach, where hopefully there are more families and fewer retirees stopping in just to let their dogs run amuck and destroy the banks of the beautiful lake.

Close access to the lake shore (1 min walk), but the site was extremely dusty so all our items and feet were covered in dust and dirt. Also, be aware that there is no running water at this campground and the bathroom is a big cement portapotty with no sink or water to wash hands. We tent camped, so those who RV camp may not mind minimal access to resources. Bring lots of water! My teenagers and I walked down to the shore and we loved the view. We found little frogs and other kids were catching crawdads around the lake. We liked swimming area better at the next campground near the resort and drove there a few times. It has a floating dock and a more suitable place to lay your day items and your kayaks. There were at least 4-5 families at the beach and everyone was having a great time. Chipmunks galore! Overall it was a fun place to camp but next time we will camp at the other campground with water access and a nicer beach.

Recreation.gov was excellent to work with. You made reserving a campsite easy. We have been going to Point campground for years. The Day Use area has become crowded. I get it, but it ruins the camping experience for me.

Very quite, clean and chill campground. Camp host was so nice and took some time to talk to us about the local animals to be aware of. Luckily we ended up seeing the areas lil black fox that lives there! Great sunny beach area for kayak entry and the sites were a perfect balance of sun & shade too. Plus the mountain views are stunning!!!

site 2 long but narrow driveway with more grade than we expected, had to crank the tongue all the way up to get level. Right off the highway, but traffic noise is partially blocked by trees. campsite was large and had some privacy. some sun and some shade. Super close access to lake, but be aware tour groups drive through the campsite to use the access.

Better sites in the area. No flat ground to put tents. Right on hwy. Day use people creates lots of traffic. No parking for extra vehicle. One bathroom for campground AND day use people.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
