Been to this cabin many times and enjoy the off grid solitude

We loved it. It was nice to have the lake right there.

If you are skiing, plan for it to take longer than expected! it was easy to find, felt safe on the trail considering how public it was, but the trail is not always groomed past the bridge, so skate skiing was hard! Classic skiing maybe be the way to go for beginners.

We had a great trip to the cabin and got some snow overnight which made the views in the morning extra special. The ski-up was difficult but worth it for the unique experience. I recommend bringing mantles for the propane lanterns as they provide better light than headlamps/flashlights.

Awesome stay! The cabin had everything we needed. Beds, cookware, TP. We left some additional supplies to make up for some we used up to pay it forward. Next time I’ll bring up more. I even caught some rainbow trout in the lake and saw a bald eagle catch some too. Amazing cabin and lake! Can’t wait to go back

Very icy and difficult ski in ... just the conditions we were dealt. Once we made it to the cabin we were so comfortable. The stove warmed the cabin quickly. Plenty of pots / pans / plates / utensils to make our stove cooking straightforward. The beds were quite reasonable. Heard some small housemates scuffling around during the night. Melted lots of snow to replenish our water supply. Woke up to 18-24 inches of fresh snow. Beautiful! But, a very slow ski out through knee/thigh deep snow . . . just the conditions we were dealt.

Picturesque cabin on in the mountains above a frozen lake. Everything was in working condition. There were a variety of tools including snow shovels and Axes for splitting wood. We hiked most of the way there just walking on the hard pack, but the last quarter mile is in deep, soft snow. With snowshoes we were able to break trail and walk beside the ski tracks. All in all it was a great night, we will probably stay there again!

Really awesome place. Multiple ways to get to the cabin. Filled with all the necessities, i.e. heat source, pots and pans, lighters, firewood, beds, etc. The views were amazing and the cabin was clean. I really enjoyed my stay.

Adorable little cabin! A perfect little getaway! The lake provide pretty views, but if wanting to swim, it will be a bit mossy and weedy in there!

As far as i am aware, mystic lake and ellis are the only two major destinations on those trails. Please put up a few trail signs on new world gulch. At the least make sure there is documentation that new world gulch is not advisable for winter access to mystic lake cabin. Reserved three days there with a friend and we ended up spending a whole day just hiking around trying to figure out where we needed to go. And once the skin track broke for ellis peak the trail to the cabin became nonexistent and we were sinking hip deep in snowshoes. End of the story we had to turn around and go home. She had bad knees from a previous trip so we couldn’t try again the next day from sourdough to at least get two days out of our reservation. I hope the trail and maps are more updated and better documented than new world gulch. This is only my third winter in the area and i have now come to learn that new world gulch is a fairly newly made trail so i can understand that it is not better documented but i’m sure the community would much appreciate being able to be advised. All together i still look back on it positively. Had a good day out under some weight but we both had our hearts set on the cabin so it was for sure a bummer when we were forced to turn around. Hope you can understand and i appreciate you reading my review. Beautiful area and tail system just wish it had some documentation. Have a wonderful day! Thank you

I spent 3 days here with my buddy, to relax and unwind. We enjoyed a warm fire and many card games. The cabin was clean and we liked the historical building.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
